Halls of Torment Reviews
If I could play this thing on a beige CRT while Rob Zombie screamed in my ears I wouldn't know it wasn't 1999. Actually, wait, I can do that. If anyone needs me, tell them I'm busy for the next… foreseeable future.
Halls of Torment offers tons of replayability with minimal fuss, and is just challenging enough to keep you engaged for every moment.
Halls of Torment is more than simply Vampire Survivors wearing Diablo’s clothes. It’s a clever and engrossing Survive ‘em Up that uses RPG trappings to add a ton of versatility and rewarding complexity to what would still be a fun game without it. There’s a pile of quirky character classes and a massive number of ways to build them during each run, just a big pile of content and not a shred of it feels like padding.
Much like Vampire Survivors, it's extremely compelling; time will slip away without you realising it. The gradual sense of progress is well judged, and there's just enough to keep track of, between unlocking characters and stages and totting up persistent upgrades, to hold your attention.

Horde survivors type of game with a retro pre-rendered presentation
Halls of Torment combines the character-building, loot and atmosphere of Diablo with the conciseness and pick-up-and-play nature of the Survivors-like genre to create an experience like no other. You might encounter the odd minor frustration while playing, but this is very easy to recommend.
With its retro aesthetic and tightly intuitive Survivors-like gameplay, Halls of Torment really packs a punch that'll satisfy any genre fan. ☠️
Halls of Torment efficiently combines the highs of some of the best bullet heaven shooters out there, with immaculate Diablo-coded looks and sounds. Despite not being revolutionary, nor packing the outrageous depth of some of its rivals, Chasing Carrots‘ title is easily one of the most interesting and addictive titles in the genre.
Halls of Torment is a surprising fusion of two worlds: the depth and atmosphere of Diablo meets the frenzy and accessibility of Survivors-like games. The result is an experience that captivates from the very first minutes and invites you to return game after game, searching for the perfect combination of skills, equipment and luck. Despite a few minor flaws related to balance and certain limitations in the progression system, Chasing Carrots' game stands out as one of the best representatives of the genre, capable of distinguishing itself and shining in its own right. It is a title that not only pays homage to the classics, but also demonstrates how it is possible to innovate while remaining faithful to one's inspirations.

Halls of Torment offers a solid and addictive experience for fans of bullet hell-style roguelikes, combining accessible gameplay with a nostalgic look inspired by 1990s RPGs. Although it brings some innovations, the game remains faithful to the mechanics that made the genre successful, offering a wide variety of heroes, missions, and areas to explore. Despite some limitations in the interface and lack of more detailed explanations of certain mechanics, useful for players less familiar with the genre, the title has great potential to grow through future updates, providing hours of fun and challenges. It is an excellent option both for those who are discovering this type of game and for more experienced players looking for something new.
