Commandos: Origins Reviews
Commandos: Origins is unfortunately an insult on console, as it is not really fun to play due to many technical inconsistencies. The very annoying controls don't really help either, even though a really solid tactical game with a high degree of historical accuracy seems to be hidden behind the problems.

A weak compromise that chooses the way of simplifying rather than streamline. The narrative is gripping and some missions still have some tactical value, but the technical and gameplay flaws are too big to be ignored.

Origins is a really tense, challenging game and a great revival of this much-loved series.
Commandos: Origins is a striking return to the roots of the classic 90's franchise, bringing back real-time tactical gameplay focused on stealth and strategy. Serving as a prequel to the previous games, the title offers 14 missions set in historical World War II scenarios, where every decision demands surgical precision. Visually modest but functional, the game honors its legacy with precise and challenging mechanics.

Commandos: Origins aims to take players back to the glory days of PC gaming when niche strategy games thrived, and it almost succeeds. The changes made to make the game suit a modern player base are good and well appreciated, even by veterans like me. But, in its current condition, there are just way too many bugs for the game to be enjoyed properly. I’d recommend waiting for a few patches to drop and then getting it on sale. It’s good to see Commandos back in action!
A flawed but fun return to stealth strategy. If you're nostalgic or just love tactical tension, Commandos: Origins is worth a shot, especially on Game Pass. Check it out to see if nostalgia can really bring back the 90s.
Commandos Origins marks the triumphant return of the saga, giving us a sublime experience in terms of strategy and stealth.

Commandos: Origins offers gameplay that hits the mark for real-time tactics fans, but everything surrounding it feels like it’s stuck in the past. The visuals and audio are functional at best, with little flair, and the story is exactly what you'd expect—and nothing more. With its $49.99 price tag, it's hard not to feel like you're paying a bit too much for something this straightforward.
Commandos: Origins is a declaration of love to an almost forgotten genre - and at the same time proof that classic real-time tactics can still be fun in 2025. The game is clearly aimed at fans of the series (and people with patience). Newcomers might be put off by the level of difficulty at first, but those who dig in will get a rewarding, challenging gaming experience. The biggest strengths are the clever level design, the tactical depth and the co-op mode. The biggest weaknesses? Small technical glitches and a limited choice of characters.

The more accessible gameplay of Commandos: Origins will be easier for new players to grasp, while longtime fans of the series might take issue with the discarded gameplay features.

Commando: Origins was meant to mark the grand return of the franchise, but with a lack of cohesive story, limited freedom, numerous bugs, and poor optimization overshadowing its nostalgic and varied missions, it’s best to wait for a few patches before diving in.

Lots of light, little shadow! The new Commandos adventures are every bit as good as the old games and, naturally, even better than they were back then in technical terms. The test version was already in perfect condition, with no crashes or stuttering whatsoever. However, Claymore Games must be criticized for not breaking any new ground in terms of innovation and relying entirely on the old warhorses who liked the gameplay back in 1998 and have no desire for major changes. Because there's nothing really new here. So if you like the gameplay and first got to know it through a game like Shadow Tactics, then we highly recommend taking a trip to the mother of the sub-genre. However, if you were actually expecting something new in the realm of real-time tactics, you might be slightly disappointed. The origins are also reflected in the game design – this is a return to the roots, not a move towards new branches.

The wait is over! Fans of stealth tactics games will get a kick out of Commandos Origins, but their patience might run thin due to the firing squad of problems that trouble its initial release.
Despite this, Commandos Origins has managed to bring the series back completely. The game is not for everyone. It requires patience, precision and perseverance. But those who like that will get a game that will make you think and puzzle over every mission. Origins is not innovative, but it is not meant to be. It is a tribute to the original Commandos games and succeeds more than adequately in that.

Commandos: Origins doesn’t blaze a new trail for the genre, but it’s an expertly executed operation, one that brings a legendary series back into the fight with confidence and style. It captures the spirit of the originals while shedding some of their more dated baggage, resulting in a game that feels both familiar and fresh.
''Even if it doesn't revolutionize the genre, Commandos: Origins is a well-written love letter to its past, and with a couple of patches and a few more tweaks, it could become a benchmark title for tactical stealth fans. The game is a is a surprisingly solid return for one of the most beloved tactical series of the '90s. Kalypso and Claymore Game Studios have managed to revive the spirit of the saga, modernizing it just enough to make it appealing to a younger audience, without betraying the expectations of longtime fans.''

Commandos: Origins nails the real-time strategy aspects and enhances them by bringing excellent sandbox elements. Sadly, the many bugs and technical issues will frustrate even the most dedicated players out there.
Commandos: Origins pushes the limits of real-time strategy, yet while it can be difficult at times, the mix of strategies available make it fun to try out different options.
Commandos: Origins is overall a very good reboot for the series that seemed to be saying goodbye in 2006.

I had quite high expectations for Commandos: Origins. I wasn't disappointed in the most important aspect - it's a good stealth game, in which quietly eliminating enemies is rewarded and even desired. However, I cannot turn a blind eye to its archaisms and poor technical aspects.
