A great starter kit history lesson for a beloved platforming franchise. Be warned that it is a very tough and often frustrating lesson, but that it does have its rewards.

All of these features lead to a package created with lots of love. My only complaint is that only the NES Mega Man games are covered in this package.

Mega Man Legacy Collection on the 3DS is a great collection of games and extras, but players who already have the Virtual Console games might be hard pressed to spend $30 on 54 challenges that have little replayability without any online functionality and leaderboards.

So the games look and sound great, so how do they play? Wonderfully! The controls are responsive and the feel of playing these games from the NES days is totally there.

The original six Mega Man games have never looked better, and while the Xbox One controller provides some annoyance with button layout, there is plenty to tackle in this collection of glorious 8-bit gaming.

The exclusion of "Mega Man 9" and "10" is really the only mark I can come up with when observing this package. It has all the features that a re-release should have, plus some extra, and it all comes with an asking price that makes the purchase seem like a no-brainer. The "Mega Man Legacy Collection" is a piece of gaming history that adds the trappings of modern gaming.

Mega Man Legacy Collection for Nintendo 3DS is still a faithful port of six classic Blue Bomber adventures, but the lack of system-specific features and limited options in comparison to its home console brethren make it hard to recommend over previous releases.

In a time of movie-scale video games with photorealistic graphics, downloadable content, post-launch patches, and 50+ hours of game play, Mega Man Legacy Collection reminds us all of the perfection demanded from both developers and gamers in the 8-bit era of gaming.

To date, the Megaman Legacy Collection is the definitive way of playing the first six Megaman games. Loving attention to detail, collection of additional resources, and a challenge mode that should keep longtime players and new fans engaged for a long time.

If you want to relive your memories as a kid or just want to see how Mega Man got his start, then Mega Man Legacy Collection is an easy recommendation. The price point of $14.99 is perfect for the collection, and hopefully we'll see Digital Eclipse work on similar collections for the SNES Mega Man games in the future. The challenges are a great touch, and help round out a stellar collection of gaming classics.

This compilation boasts six classic games, preserved in as-close-to-original form as possible, at a great price. If you never played Mega Man before, this is where to start. If you have, relive the greatness.

Mega Man Legacy Collection is a great package with a lot of content and stuff to do - for newcomers it's worth acknowledging that each game is very challenging, and could be too much for someone who isn't used to the steep learningcurve. With that in mind the wealth of extras, the challenge mode and the sheer scope of six games nevertheless make Mega Man Legacy Collection a great option for anyone who's looking for an old-school treat.

Mega Man Legacy Collection is a great way to play classic Mega Man games on the go. The additional content is fantastic for retro gaming fans who like to see every bit of information they can with these classics games, and the digital package is a great value at $14.99. If you have ever been interested in playing the games that got Mega Man his start, this is a solid addition to any library.

Sure, Mega Man Legacy Collection could've added more games, or had an option to expand the screen to full size (and what's with the full price tag?). That said, it's still a rich package filled with gaming history, between the six original games, the museum, the music player and the NES Remix mode. If you're even slightly devoted to the Blue Bomber, you owe it to yourself to pick this up. [OpenCritic note: Robert Workman separately reviewed the XB1 (8.5) and 3DS (8.25) versions. Their scores have been averaged.]
