Ghost of Yotei Reviews
Ghost of Yōtei is a great evolution by the foundation that Sucker Punch built with Ghost of Tsushima. While the story feels like a retread of every other revenge story of the past few years, complete with the same frustrating pitfalls, the characters, new gameplay mechanics, and extra content make for a game that will hook you from beginning to end. I can't wait to see how Sucker Punch continues to expand the game and the franchise in new and exciting ways.
Ghost of Yotei is one of the best titles you can play this year, and is absolutely worth every buck that you spend. This 50-hour title will give you the complete package of a true AAA experience. You’ll probably spill enough blood that an entire region could be painted red, and still have the Yotei 6 running for their lives. The amount of breathtaking views this game puts you along with the depth of characters and stories, truly will leave you longing for more by the time you’re done with it. Ghost of Yotei has our blessing to go for the GOTY title with the full intent to win.
Ghost of Yotei is a stunning sequel that elevates everything Ghost of Tsushima did so well. Ezo is alive and breathtaking, packed with rewarding exploration, hidden shrines, and dynamic villages. Combat is fluid and versatile, with Atsu’s weapons, skills, and stealth options offering thrills with every encounter.
Ghost of Yōtei refines rather than reinvents, delivering a stunning, atmospheric experience that builds beautifully on Tsushima’s legacy. Some outdated mechanics hold it back, but the passion behind it shines through. If you loved the original, this one’s a no-brainer.

Ghost of Yotei expands its world and sharpens combat, but a weak revenge tale leaves side-quests and twists to carry this otherwise impressive open-world adventure.
Ghost of Yotei is a good sequel to Ghost of Tsushima, and if you’re a fan of the series, this game will be right up your alley. The game looks great when it has the chance to let all of the elements come together. The animations are good, which makes the battles enjoyable and challenging at the same time. The way you can grind towards the most powerful version of yourself is totally in your hands, as you can choose what kind of talents you would like to unlock. You don’t have to unlock every aspect of the talent tree. If you want to make the game a bit more challenging, just try to parry all of the attacks, and you’re good to go. The main story is predictable, and the side missions are decent enough to make the grind more enjoyable. If you’ve liked the first game and you would like to play the game just like before, without any new mechanics, you’ll definitely want to buy this game.
Ghost of Yotei is a worthy successor to Tsushima, perhaps sometimes a little too much so, lacking in depth differences. But the game is so enjoyable! The nature is beautiful, the combat is interesting. Yes, the stealth hasn't changed an inch and gives a feeling of open house, and the number of side effects is ridiculously high, but if you were hooked on Tsushima, then the flaws you found have been smoothed out to make you want to get into the screen more.

Ghost of Yotei is the rare sequel that understands what made its predecessor special and builds upon it exceptionally. Atsu's revenge tale might hit predictable notes, but the journey transcends its familiar narrative through unparalleled player freedom. And with Yotei Legends coming in 2026? I can't wait to dive back in.
Ghost of Yotei isn’t just a worthy follow-up to Ghost of Tsushima, but a masterfully delivered sequel that feels like a true leap forward. By delivering a darker, more personal story, expanding player freedom in how they progress through the world, refining combat with fresh mechanics, and making full use of the PlayStation 5’s power and features, Sucker Punch has created something truly extraordinary here. It’s beautiful, it’s brutal, and it’s endlessly rewarding to play… simply put, Ghost of Yotei sets a new benchmark for open-world games, and stands tall as one of the very best experiences you can find on the PlayStation 5.
"A cinematic experience with profound gameplay" Ghost of Yōtei delivers a melancholy and beautiful experience in a rare, mature samurai setting. It's not just a sequel to Ghost of Tsushima, but a complete work of art that balances combat, narrative, and philosophy in a captivating way. The game delves deep into the soul and uses silence, music, and nature as authentic narrative devices, creating an emotional experience that lingers in the memory. It's one of the most mature and daring games of its generation, and a perfect embodiment of what cinematic action games can be when spirit meets technology.

Engaging combat mechanics, spectacular sights, and gripping character moments are somewhat undermined by indistinct quantity, dull objective listings, and by-the-books storytelling. If you've been seeking a new open-world adventure, you could do far worse. At its heart, Ghost of Yōtei is an undeniable beauty to behold, yet too cautious to let its splendor shine.
Ghost of Yōtei is a worthy successor to its older brother; it brings fresh and new ideas and a more refined and mature experience, building on the things Ghost of Tsushima did so well five years ago. If you enjoyed Tsushima, Atsu’s story is something you shouldn’t miss, and while it does have some flaws, it truly is a masterpiece.
Ghost of Yotei is a masterpiece that picks up exactly where Tsushima left off – this is how you craft a story-driven action game: simple, yet incredibly powerful.

Sucker Punch had the choice of sticking as closely as possible to the beloved first installment with the necessary improvements, or deviating from this successful formula at the risk of disappointing Tsushima fans. Fortunately, Sucker Punch chose the former. Because while Ghost of Yotei is largely the same as Tsushima, it's far better executed than its predecessor in every way, and highly recommended.

Ghost of Yōtei is a one-of-a-kind experience that masterfully blends a rich open world with deep combat and storytelling. While some elements feel like a redo of Tsushima, the game still does more than enough to be in a league of its own. For AAA fans, Ghost of Yōtei is a must-play.
While it might play it safe in some regards, Ghost of Yotei is a sequel that builds off the greatness of the first. Often feeling like a tale pulled straight from the American ‘Wild West’, the vibrant setting of a 17th century Ezo is the perfect backdrop for telling Atzu’s journey of vengeance against those that wronged her. It’s combat might feel similar to the first entry in the series, but the addition of some new weapons and a terrifying companion make it just as brutal and fun to master as before. Though it might not reinvent the wheel, Ghost of Yotei is another solid entry in Sony’s cinematic single player catalog that should be picked up by anyone who enjoy the beauty hidden between the cuts of a katana.
Ghost of Yotei is a leap forward in every aspect, both in gameplay and story. With a vibrant, nuanced open world that will ensure you never get bored.

Ghost of Yōtei is an incredible sequel that builds upon its predecessor while still finding ways to stand out on its own.
Going through Ezo is not only beautiful, but the organic way of discovering objectives helps to set it apart from other checklist open-world games. The little touches of the DualSense and modes help round out an incredible journey. If exclusives help sell a console, then Ghost of Yotei is a clear winner for PlayStation 5.
The Ghost of Yōtei is somewhere between a fantastic sequel that iterates on and innovates a successful gameplay loop and a larger DLC that merely builds on solid foundations without any greater ambitions. A fundamental change in setting – both in terms of place and time – and a change of the main character allowed the creators to come up with fresh ideas and take risks again. However, they did not do so. Instead, they stuck to everything that the first game did well, without adding much more. The game's beautifully crafted environment and stunning audiovisuals cannot save it from its mediocre story and technological shortcomings, which are less forgivable on PlayStation 5 than they were five years ago on PlayStation 4. And although the main gameplay loop is still very entertaining, and there is an effort to improve it (for example, through the addition of more weapons), in the end, Ghost of Yōtei doesn't offer as much new content and gameplay mechanics as we think it should. No matter how entertaining it still is.
