Ghost of Yotei Reviews
I loved my time with this world and it’s cast of characters. I never got tired of the swordplay and feeling like a bad ass. I even played it to completion to stretch out my time in Yotei but it’s still a very solid second place for me this year. Hats off to an amazing experience. Ghost of Yotei scores a very high 9 out of 10 for me and I’m hoping we see perhaps an older Kiku in their next game? Or perhaps they’ll let us play as Mad Goro (AKA Trevor Philips) in some future DLC. Grand Theft Yotei here we come!
Ghost of Yotei is a safe sequel, and in some ways, that’s a great thing and will be precisely what a lot of people wanted. For me, however, I was hoping to see some large improvements from Ghost of Tsushima, rather than a reskin.
If you're a player who really enjoyed Tsushima, Yōtei will be a huge hit: it delivers on what was already good, improves on many minor aspects, brings a new world to explore, a strong protagonist, and beautiful environments. However, if you were expecting something that would be a narrative revolution or a character with existential doubts, internal sacrifices, and that intense emotional arc like Jin's, you might be a little disappointed: Atsu is simpler in this regard, more direct. All in all, I recommend Ghost of Yōtei. It's well worth it, but with the caveat that it's "more of the same, but improved," rather than a true revolution. Perhaps in the future, Sucker Punch will venture even further into this aspect of emotional growth.

Ghost of Yōtei is a jaw-dropping visual and auditory experience, featuring elegant combat and an atmosphere that borders on the poetic. Despite stumbling over repetition, uneven difficulty, and a few questionable design choices, Sucker Punch’s new game preserves the charm and emotional depth that made its predecessor a classic. Some side missions recycle familiar formulas, and the more introspective pacing may alienate those seeking constant action. Ghost of Yōtei is, without a doubt, one of the generation’s standout titles — a work that blends contemplation, technique, and emotion with rare elegance.

Despite a weak storyline and uninteresting supporting characters, Ghost of Yotei manages to stand out thanks to its stunning open world and enjoyable combat mechanics, making Atsu's journey a pleasurable adventure to experience despite its shortcomings.

For my money, this is the best samurai game ever made. Somewhere between the roar of the wind and the silence after a duel, I realized why this series matters: it’s not about vengeance, honor, or glory. It’s about compassion enduring even when the world burns. Ghost of Yōtei captures that spirit completely. A technical marvel, an artistic triumph, and one of 2025’s defining games.
Without disrupting the formula that made the first game so successful, Ghost of Yōtei demonstrates Sucker Punch's maturity in its approach of refining rather than reinventing. The studio offers a more introspective adventure, carried by sumptuous art direction and a rarely matched attention to detail. Atsu's story, both intimate and visceral, stands out as a natural evolution of the theme of honor and revenge that began with Ghost of Tsushima.

Ghost of Yotei doesn’t reinvent the formula—it refines it with care and passion. Sucker Punch delivers another emotionally rich and visually stunning world. Despite a few technical flaws and a predictable start, Atsu’s journey shines through deep combat, breathtaking art direction, and a graceful tribute to Japanese folklore and cinema. It’s not groundbreaking, but if you loved Ghost of Tsushima, this chapter will win you over.

Excelling in its intuitive exploration of an open world, Ghost of Yōtei gives you the freedom to explore a Japan of stunning landscapes and secrets to discover. Thus, we find two protagonists: the warrior Atsu and the land of Ezo itself, which perfectly suits a story that's as much about revenge as it is about homecoming.

We thought Sucker Punch couldn't make a game better than Tsushima, but they managed to do it. Ghost of Yotei is an overall improvement on a title that was already very good: thanks to the historical context, which is certainly more enjoyable than the Mongol invasion, Yotei transports the player to a wonderful world, with a well-characterized protagonist and a good balance between action and narrative.

Ghost of Yōtei delivers on the most ambitious promise a game can make: delivering an experience that only fully exists when you're actually playing, whether it's feeling the weight of the weapon you're using, reading the enemy's posture, following the winds through the Ezo region, alternating between present and past to give new meaning to Atsu's life.

Ghost of Yotei on the PlayStation 5 is not a straight-forward sequel to what Ghost of Tsushima was, but it's still connected to that game in many ways. The premise of the story, various gameplay elements, and its fantastic visuals are definitely what connect both games together in a good way
Ghost of Yotei is more of what made Ghost of Tsushima so compelling; terrific combat, a memorable protagonist, and a gorgeous world playing host to it all. It's not perfect, there are a few edges to this sword that could have been sharpened, but there are not enough to take away from an incredible experience. I cannot recommend it enough.
Overall, Ghost of Yotei is a perfect successor to Ghost of Tsushima. Does it improve much on its predecessor? not particularly much that is noticeable or innovative, but frankly, it’s hard to improve on a game I considered pretty perfect initially anyway. Ghost of Yotei basks in the glow of Ghost of Tsushima, and I couldn’t have been happier to cuddle up to its familiarity.
Ghost of Yōtei refines and expands while offering a gorgeous new setting and a compelling, emotional story - It may not reinvent the genre, but it’s another Far East epic.
Like its predecessor, Ghost of Yōtei captivates with breathtaking depictions of nature, an outstanding soundtrack, and a combat system that is thoroughly enjoyable thanks to its speed. The unique and melancholic poetry ensures that we immerse ourselves in the world and want to explore every corner of Ezo. In many places, Yōtei feels like returning to one of your favorite games as you gallop on horseback with birds fluttering and leaves dancing around you. The title doesn't reinvent the series and is very similar to its predecessor, but Ghost of Yōtei offers everything I loved about Ghost of Tsushima. The classic revenge story isn't the most complex, but I found the immersion in Atsu's past and the strong focus on the masks of our adversaries very successful. I was also impressed by the good use of the DualSense, which provides many small details with its motion control. In short: If you loved Ghost of Tsushima and don't mind returning to a very similar setting, then Ghost of Yōtei is also a must-play.

Ghost of Yōtei is a must-have title because it not only lives up to the expectations set by its predecessor, but surpasses them in almost every way. This game combines an emotionally intense story with a vibrant, lively open world, supported by a brutal and satisfying combat system. Its audiovisual and technical excellence cement it as one of the most impressive experiences of this generation.
