Ghost of Yotei Reviews
Ghost of Yotei is exactly what we've come to expect from Sucker Punch – a beautiful, polished, and incredibly atmospheric tale of revenge that perfectly fits the tradition of PlayStation exclusives. Atsu delivers as a heroine, combat can be truly intense and satisfying, and the world – despite some shortcomings – is delightfully detailed. At the same time, it's a conservative title: no bold decisions, no revolution, and a finale that leaves a bit unsatisfied. It's a classic, solid Sony production – great to play, though without any memorable moments.

If you loved Ghost of Tsushima, you will love Ghost of Yotei even more. With five distinct weapons, its action has become much more varied and fluid, and with the subtle Japanese elegance that permeates every corner of the game, it is, as a whole, a truly "beautiful" production.

A true love letter to classic samurai films, Ghost of Yotei is wonderfully presented and an absolute joy to play. Its stunningly-realised world will have you immersed from the outset, spurring you to explore and discover its secrets in order to develop Atsu into a fearsome ghost. And its combat remains thrilling throughout.
his sequel goes beyond a new plot and island, with added freedom in how to tackle the first half of the story, but it might not go enough with addressing the mix and match feel of the first game.

In another fantastic trip to Japan, Sucker Punch hits the mark again with Ghost of Yōtei, an amazing game, some of the best open-world combat, and impeccable art direction.

Ghost of Yotei isn’t without its flaws, but its refined and exciting combat, added weapons, great cast of characters, and the beautiful island of Ezo make this game a great successor to Ghost of Tsushima. I still have a few more Tales and Myths to finish, but I would rather play it again from the start in Lethal Mode with a Japanese dub to fully immerse myself in this amazing world that Ghost of Yotei offers.
Ghost of Yotei doesn't take many risks, but it has the advantage of being built on a fantastic foundation. This sequel adds some very interesting features that improve the experience many of us enjoyed in Tsushima. Sucker Punch brings a well-rounded character, reactive and visceral combat, and a beautiful open world perfect to get lost in.

Ghost of Yōtei offers solid gameplay and atmosphere but falls short of expectations, with déjà-vu design and modest production values. A good open world, yet not the standout PS5 exclusive it should be.

Ghost of Yotei provides an exceptionally impressive adventure that any fan of open-world action games will adore. All of its many elements come together wonderfully and it's all wrapped up in such gorgeous visuals that you'll remember the journey for years to come.
There’s no doubt that this entry refines and improves upon the foundation laid by Ghost of Tsushima, delivering a smoother, more dynamic, and overall richer experience. But despite its mechanical evolution and artistic brilliance, Ghost of Yotei never quite crosses the threshold into masterpiece territory. It remains, at its best, a very good game. Beautiful, ambitious, and deeply enjoyable, but not the genre-defining triumph it clearly aspires to be.
Ghost of Yōtei is best described as an emotional exercise in environment-first storytelling. Sucker Punch makes a clear and consistent choice to let the locations and environment tell the story. In a year filled with great action titles, Yōtei is a game that despite having brutal combat succeeds because of its quieter moments. It rewards attention, exploration and patience. Play it slowly. Let the gentle caress of the wind guide you towards your goals.
Ghost of Yotei follows the same formula of most PlayStation sequels: it improves many aspects of the gameplay and the side content, and it ensures that it delivers an impressive visual and audio experience. However, it also offers a weaker story with more issues than its predecessor. And in Yotei's case specifically, the game completely fails at telling an engaging narrative, and by continuing to rely heavily on the same template and approach across most of its elements, it becomes a missed opportunity, despite being an overall enjoyable game.

If Ghost of Tsushima was about the birth of the ghost, Ghost of Yotei is about what comes after, the echoes of that legacy, and the question of whether revenge can ever bring peace. It’s one of the best action-adventure games on PS5 and a masterclass in how to honor a predecessor while forging your own path.
Ghost of Yotei is a masterclass in open world design that excels at making the player addicted to it with thorough exploration coupled with fun combat and a great story lead with Atsu, one of Sony's strongest protagonists in a long time.

Ghost of Yotei is an excellent continuation of Sucker Punch’s latest series. Exploring the island can keep you engaged for hours, and the story of revenge, while simple, is genuinely captivating.

The many different activities keep the gameplay fresh at all times, the learning curve and difficulty level increase fairly yet challengingly, the story surprised me with several twists, even though it's essentially a typical revenge story and the game looks absolutely stunning. Ghost of Yōtei is the best sequel possible to the first installment: you can tell that Sucker Punch built upon the strengths of its predecessor, expanded upon them and simultaneously introduced new ideas to the setting, perfectly rounding out the game and making it one of the best first-party titles from PlayStation Studios in my opinion.

Ghost of Yotei is one of PlayStation’s safest titles, which ultimately keeps it from being an essential entry in the console’s library. With a worn-out formula and theme, the only truly memorable aspects of the game are its art direction and soundtrack.

Ghost of Yōtei shows exactly why the PS5 is still king of the consoles. Unless you're tired of ninja and samurai-themed stories, Ghost of Yotei is a must-play. The beautiful open-world game rewards deep exploration and features engaging, cinematic storytelling. Undoubtedly, it's one of the best games of the year.
I loved my time with this world and it’s cast of characters. I never got tired of the swordplay and feeling like a bad ass. I even played it to completion to stretch out my time in Yotei but it’s still a very solid second place for me this year. Hats off to an amazing experience. Ghost of Yotei scores a very high 9 out of 10 for me and I’m hoping we see perhaps an older Kiku in their next game? Or perhaps they’ll let us play as Mad Goro (AKA Trevor Philips) in some future DLC. Grand Theft Yotei here we come!
Ghost of Yotei is a safe sequel, and in some ways, that’s a great thing and will be precisely what a lot of people wanted. For me, however, I was hoping to see some large improvements from Ghost of Tsushima, rather than a reskin.
