Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault Reviews
Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault combines dungeon crawling and shop management into a deep, addictive loop, with stronger combat, beautiful 3D visuals, and excellent music. Its demanding difficulty, simple story, and limited biome variety hold it back, but it remains an incredibly fun and rewarding sequel.

While some may be disappointed at some of the changes to core systems, or further leaning into its rogue-lite elements, Moonlighter 2 feels just so good, and that isn't just toward its combat, but its shopkeeper aspect too. Systems may feel streamlined, and many are, but these changes are intentional and do a lot to make each run slick and easy to jump into. Sequels rarely see this level of change, especially on the indie side, so I certainly applaud how much bigger in scale and scope Moonlighter 2 is.
Before you reach straight for your wallet, take a moment to look inward: Why did you actually like its predecessor so much? The exploration, combat system, and entire roguelite aspect have been significantly expanded, while the streamlined shop system has lost much of its depth and almost lends itself to automation. For me, this makes Moonlighter 2 a pretty good game. At the same time, however, it loses the uniqueness that made its predecessor so special - something I greatly appreciated.

I was a big fan of the original Moonlighter, and I’m pleased to say that Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault did not disappoint. Although there are some bugs still present, they weren’t enough to take away from the incredible amount of enjoyment I got out of this game. Whether you’ve played the first Moonlighter or not, there’s a good chance that any roguelike fans will really enjoy this one. I’d bet my shop on it! Therefore, Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault receives the Thumb Culture Gold Award!
Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault is appropriately a veritable trove of masterclass design choices, such that the original Moonlighter becomes a waning moon by comparison. Aside from its story, the sequel takes everything that made the first game special, stuffs it back onto the shelves, and gives nearly every part of it an upgrade. Maybe it shouldn’t have traded its ending for near-perfection in every other aspect, but it did, and we’re still left with some much-needed roguelite love for the shop layer and an overhauled combat loop that’s closer to traditional roguelite ken. I wouldn’t call that a bad deal, and I think neither would any of Will’s regulars.
With its blend of action and business, it’s the kind of addictive sequel that will keep you playing until dawn. It will even make you say “I’ll just play one more round” and it’s well worth your time from start to finish.

Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault comes highly recommended because it’s a more complete, deeper sequel with plenty of new features. The developers didn’t just repeat what worked in the first game; instead, they understood where it could evolve and what elements they should keep. It’s true that a few extra elements are missing, but the final version is ideal for both fans of the original and new explorers.

In a way, I can see that reducing certain elements enabled the folks at Digital Sun to make something that felt more robust. Even if they followed the same path that many others took, it seems to have worked out swimmingly and that is something you can’t put a price on.
Moonlighter 2 isn’t like its predecessor, and that’s a double-edged sword. Some will say they preferred the formula of the first game, while others will welcome the new features with open arms. As far as I’m concerned, both deserve our attention and should be appreciated for what they are. This new title from Digital Sun brings its share of changes—starting with the genre—but it also retains what matters most: the fun you have playing it. Yes, the game is far from perfect. But that doesn’t stop it from being a good game. And very few titles can skillfully combine action, management, and roguelite elements. Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault is worth a try. And who knows—maybe you’ll end up loving it?

Moonlighter 2 takes one of gaming’s most satisfying gameplay loops and somehow makes it even better. It’s a prettier, deeper, more emotionally resonant game than the already excellent original, and is a must-play for all roguelike fans.
Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault is an absolutely incredible game, sitting at the very top of the Roguelike tower with only the all time greats.
Takes the elements that worked in the original and expands them, making you alternate between deep dungeon runs and effective shopkeeping
Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault isn't a revolution, but it is a very solid evolution of an unusual concept. Digital Sun has understood what made the original special and has expanded on that core with a much more extensive roguelite system, more varied builds, new inventory mechanics, and a significantly more modern presentation.

Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault preserves the core idea that made the first game special while carving out its own identity through deeper combat, greater equipment variety, and a more focused roguelite structure. Exploration, relic management, and shopkeeping remain tightly connected, creating a rewarding gameplay loop that tests both combat skills and resource management. While repeated expeditions and grinding can become tiresome over time, the overall experience remains strong, offering plenty of room to experiment with weapons, temporary upgrades, inventory organization, and profit-maximizing strategies. Despite making significant changes from the original, the sequel turns its new direction into a cohesive and enjoyable experience.

Moonlighter 2 is an accessible roguelike with a strong sense of progression. Its mix of combat, puzzles, and shopkeeping makes for an enjoyable gameplay loop. The grind eventually becomes a bit noticeable and the loading times could be shorter. Overall, it is a visually appealing and polished improvement over its predecessor.

If you liked the first Moonlighter, this is an easy recommendation even in early access. If you never played the original but enjoy cozy roguelites with satisfying progression and a smart economy loop, this is absolutely worth watching. I went in hoping the sequel would still have that same addictive spark, and after several runs, several shop days, and many questionable pricing decisions, yeah, it definitely does.
