Digimon Story: Time Stranger Reviews
Overall, Digimon Story Time Stranger is everything I could imagine a Digimon fan wanting. It's a fun adventure through a digital world, and all of your favorite collectible monsters are there for the ride. The combat system is fun and clear-cut, and it has just enough teeth to feel compelling. Customizing and creating your ideal Digimon is a whole lot of fun. The only real negative is that it feels a bit unpolished in places, and you need to have some of fondness for Digimon to get into the game. It's an excellent experience for fans, but perhaps it's one worth waiting until a few patches have rolled out.
Digimon Story: Time Stranger might be one small step for the RPG genre, but it's definitely one giant leap for the Digimon series, which is enjoying a resurgence with this game taking the center stage. The newest installment in the Digimon Story series manages to be both what longtime fans have been waiting for and the perfect entry point for others, a carefully crafted licensed video game with a storyline that offers thrilling moments that rival those of the anime. Digimon Story Time Stranger excels in a lot of ways, especially with its ridiculous amount of Digimon that are great fun to experiment with. Although I'm a newbie to the series, I must admit that this lovely RPG adventure made me a fan.
With a good story and an improved classic gameplay style, Digimon Story: Time Stranger becomes the best Digimon game ever made, offering plenty of quality content. Added to that are the technical improvements and the freedom of play provided by the Switch 2 version, especially in handheld mode. Despite a few minor shortcomings, the Switch 2 version remains an ideal way to experience one of the beloved JRPG adventures.

Ultimately, Digimon Story Time Stranger is a mega level Digimon title but a champion when it comes to JRPGs as a whole. That is to say that it's a genuinely solid game, but unless you're a fan of Digimon, there are better JRPGs out there for players to discover. A few shortcomings in what is otherwise a fantastic experience, but those shortcomings are baked into the foundations.
a great JRPG that can stand shoulder to shoulder with some of the recent great games of the genre.
Digimon Story Time Stranger is a very complete experience for franchise fans, offering dozens of hours, a story that takes time to get going and several memorable moments. Its mix of time travel, the human world and the digital world captures Digimon’s essence well.

After spending dozens of hours jumping through time and between worlds for this review, one feeling stands out above all others: *Digimon Story: Time Stranger* is a surprisingly mature and polished *Digimon* title. It combines classic JRPG mechanics with modern quality-of-life features and a high-quality audiovisual experience. It’s not perfect: the pacing could be tighter, the side missions more engaging, and the English voice acting of higher quality, but what Time Stranger does otherwise, it does well. Fans of Pokémon, Palworld, and of course Digimon will love this, and newcomers like myself get a great entry point into the franchise. Monster collectors, we have some great weeks ahead with Pokémon Legends: Z-A and this Digimon Story: Time Stranger. You can’t have it all.

Digimon Story: Time Stranger is a love letter to fans of the series, from both the anime and games. It delivers an exciting, event-filled story, easy-to-understand and enjoyable gameplay, and visuals well-suited to the digital world. Despite some weaknesses in character writing, the game offers vast and varied content, making it one of the best in the JRPG genre.

Gripes with side content aside, Digimon Story: Time Stranger is an incredible experience that has completely revitalised my faith in the monster-catching genre. With Pokemon seemingly stuck in a rut, due to what seems to be a complete refusal on Game Freak’s part to innovate within its mainline series, there is absolutely room for a deeper, more complex take on the genre for those looking for a more sophisticated alternative. Digimon Story: Time Stranger is that game, and I’m now incredibly excited for not only what comes next, but also to dig into the titles I’ve missed over the years in my ignorance.
Digimon Story: Time Stranger isn’t just aimed at longtime fans who have been waiting for a worthy entry in the series, but it's also an excellent entry point for new players. It presents an exciting story with an interesting world and memorable characters. And despite some of the technical issues and other shortcomings, the addictive gameplay is more than enough to immerse you in a distinctive RPG experience that takes the series a significant step forward.

With Digimon Story: Time Stranger, Media.Vision proves it can evolve the series and make it appealing to a broader audience. The blend of Persona-inspired mechanics, a wide variety of content, strong narrative focus, and impressive visual design makes this entry a true turning point for the franchise. The turn-based combat works beautifully, the animations shine, and the action-packed cutscenes add just the right cinematic flair, marking a triumphant return for the series — one not to be missed by Digimon fans and anyone who loves well-crafted JRPGs. Nevertheless, after the inevitable hours of grinding, one can’t help but feel that the game could have stood out even more had it dared to take a few creative risks, stepping away from well-trodden paths in favor of fresher, bolder ideas.
