Phantom Blade Zero Reviews
Phantom Blade Zero is a spectacularly satisfying action game that rewards precise combat and experimentation of its extensive arsenal. Its ‘Kungfupunk’ world and dance-like martial arts choreography make a strong impression, but convoluted storytelling and some frustrating navigation, as well as a confused soundtrack, holds it short of becoming a legend in its art.
S-Game had everything to prove with Phantom Blade Zero and it delivers in incredible fashion. The excellent presentation is matched by phenomenal combat, memorable bosses, and a world that begs to be explored. Even with some technical and polish issues, it's a remarkable hack-and-slash action RPG.
Phantom Blade Zero is a spectacular martial arts action game that understands style matters as much as survival. Its superb combat, inventive weapon systems and unforgettable bosses easily outweigh a few technical blemishes and repetitive encounters. S-GAME has delivered a confident, ambitious knockout that deserves to be experienced by action fans everywhere.
After waiting all these years for Phantom Blade Zero and playing it from front to back, it’s clear that S-GAME put real love into creating this masterpiece. The combat, the storytelling, the world, and the way Chinese culture is woven into this dark fantasy all come together into something special. Phantom Blade Zero is a generational game that anyone who enjoys action and adventure games needs to play.
Phantom Blade Zero is undoubtedly an exceptional, remarkable, and truly unique game. With an investment comparable to that of a major AAA production, S-GAME has brought its producer's almost obsessive vision to life, creating a work with an unmistakable personal style and creative identity. At the same time, its mature gameplay framework and broad commercial appeal make even its most demanding and unconventional elements accessible and enjoyable to a wider audience.

Phantom Blade Zero delivers dozens of hours of challenging action, with demanding boss fights and multiple endings that encourage replayability. However, confusing map navigation, forced exploration to unlock certain skills and occasional backtracking can disrupt the pacing. Despite these shortcomings, it is easily one of the best games of the year and an impressive achievement for S-Game.

Phantom Blade Zero is simply a joy to play. Its combat feels great, the weapons offer plenty of variety and the boss fights are a real highlight. It has its share of flaws, but they do little to spoil the otherwise excellent game

With its debut game, S-GAME has hit almost all the right notes to deliver an unprecedented action-packed spectacle. While there's still room for improvement in its storytelling, that doesn't overshadow the fact that Phantom Blade Zero hits the mark on most of its ambitions. One of the best action games in recent years!

Phantom Blade Zero embodies everything we love about kung fu on the silver screen, from the deadly dance that is the fights to the emotions that fuel every conflict, all woven into a tapestry of old and new cultural inspirations. It represents a bold new direction in terms of presentation and aesthetics. If you have even the slightest interest in wuxia games or pure ARPG's with a touch of Souls-like mechanics, I wholeheartedly recommend this game. I would even go so far as to say that it's deserving of a permanent spot in your games library.
Phantom Blade Zero is flawless, amazing, and ready to be added to your collection.

Phantom Blade Zero is unapologetically cool, and it never holds back from making players feel like the only hotshot in the room. It’s a fantastic, polished triple-A debut from an indie studio that previously made mobile games, showcasing plenty of potential for what comes next. Beyond its swagger, its impressive display of cinematic boss fights can go from typical to downright unhinged in a flash. Its lighter difficulty may put off genre veterans, but its sheer amount of accessibility options make it an excellent entry-level action game for players who want to revel in the power fantasy of being a badass dude with a sword.
Soul may have the emotional range of a statue, but his swordplay would put even the best kung-fu movies to shame. With fantastic combat, an imaginative arsenal, and a surprisingly rich world, Phantom Blade Zero deserves a place among the best action games in recent years, despite a few minor shortcomings.

Phantom Blade Zero stuns with its dazzling KungFu Punk combat that feels as good as it looks, but clunky traversal and an overall lack of polish outside of battle mean that S-GAME’s debut title is still one step away from greatness.
Phantom Blade Zero is a genuine Game of the Year contender and is one deserving of a place in action-game folklore.
Phantom Blade Zero does not define itself as a 'soulslike'—and rightly so, as the number of bosses it features doesn't compare to that genre. Instead, it leans toward character-action gameplay, incorporating RPG elements through the upgrading of weapons and 'Spectral Blades.' These are tied to sub-bosses and major (or optional) bosses—encounters that can sometimes act as roadblocks to progress if you fail to identify and exploit their weaknesses. With its well-realized atmosphere and expansive maps to explore, it is an ideal title if you are looking for dozens of hours of gameplay and significant tests of your skill.

Phantom Blade Zero's explosive, frenetic and stylish combat is so damn good, it elevates the game to one of the best action titles of the decade and I don't think there's much competition.
Its kungfupunk identity is thoroughly fleshed out by an innovative, exceptionally designed combat system that is a gorgeous love letter to wuxia tradition.
