The game offers plenty of side missions as well as a free-roam style that allows for lots of play after completing the main story, and also allows players to spend time with some costumes and ability variants.

It's a game clearly built with affection for the character, packed with references for longtime fans and accessible enough for those simply looking for a fun adventure with friends. It's also commendable that Traveller's Tales, with its latest releases, has chosen to tailor the experience to the specific franchise they're working with, as was the case with The Skywalker Saga. Obviously, this has meant a much longer wait for the next game, but it's worth it. That's why, even though 12 years have passed since Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham (2014), the Dark Knight has proven he still knows how to make a comeback.

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is a worthy addition to the LEGO game franchise. After the rather lukewarm reception of LEGO Horizon Adventures, this latest entry once again delivers an experience that Batman and DC Comics fans will appreciate, while its charming presentation and humor are engaging enough to appeal even to players who are not particularly interested in superheroes.

Legacy of the Dark Knight is the biggest surprise of the year, and I didn't expect it at all. TT Games took a character who hasn’t had a game worthy of his legacy in over a decade, wrapped him in LEGO bricks, and delivered an experience that will make Batman fans feel right at home. The few minor missteps do little to detract from the overall package.

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight celebrates decades of the DC hero’s history with a game that appears ambitious on paper, but ultimately falls into the traps of simplicity, repetition, and a few less entertaining excesses.

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight mixes LEGO humor, Arkham-style combat, open-world Gotham, strong Bat-Family moments, and rich Batman fan service, but its easy difficulty, shallow stealth, smaller roster, and lack of online co-op hold it back.

I have played a few LEGO games, but the franchise has never clicked with me quite as much as LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight. Maybe it’s the fact that the title used Batman: Arkham as a base for its combat, or the well-designed open world. I don’t think so, though. So much of the experience feels like a more compelling version of what LEGO does. I remember playing LEGO Horizon with characters being random in every scene, an extension of the LEGO formula.

All in all, this is a solid overall package and a game that should delight fans of both Lego games and Batman adventures, but I do need to temper the hype somewhat, as I find too many shortcomings to join in on the most enthusiastic praise. The game is comfortable, charming and at times genuinely enjoyable, but never quite lives up to what it could have been.

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight successfully celebrates the Dark Knight’s entire legacy while offering a modern, accessible adventure packed with content. Thanks to its excellent art direction, vast array of references, and open world that’s a joy to explore, the game easily ranks among the best LEGO titles of recent years. Admittedly, some side activities lack originality, and a few technical glitches occasionally slow down the pace of the adventure. However, these flaws remain relatively minor when you consider everything the game accomplishes. Although an online mode would have greatly enhanced the two-player experience. Ultimately, whether you’re a fan of the movies, the animated series, or the comic books, this title is well worth your attention.

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is exactly what a fan of LEGO games would expect, without redefining the series, despite Rocksteady’s contribution and the clever additions to its combat system.

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight delivers a highly entertaining and affectionate tribute to the Caped Crusader's history, skillfully combining the atmospheric essence of the Arkham series with LEGO’s signature, lighthearted humor. While its stealth mechanics fall flat and the repetitive open-world police alerts can feel bloated, the game shines through its visually stunning rendition of Gotham City, satisfying combat, and a brilliant musical score heavily inspired by the films. It stands as a rich, deeply satisfying experience that any dedicated Batman fan will thoroughly enjoy despite its minor flaws.

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is hard to knock. There are some hiccups, but generally, the game is a fantastic way to celebrate the impact of Batman in another way. Blending the movies was a smart move to tell a familiar but somewhat new story. The combat is familiar yet fresh. It’s the perfect balance of fun and broodiness that a LEGO Batman game should be.

Maybe one day Rocksteady will return and create the next great Batman game. But until then, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight reminds us that sometimes the one you least expect is the one who best understands what a dark city truly needs.

The best thing about Batman is definitely its insightful, genuinely funny script. The characters crack jokes, the game is full of references to the films, and the story moves naturally forward. LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is a comprehensive history of Bruce Wayne's life, deeds, and companions, with a family-friendly, fun twist from TT Games.
