The story is a fantastic combination of every era of the character; the smaller pool of characters is enjoyable to play as and customise; and it’s one of the best-looking games of the year. If you’re a fan of Batman, LEGO, or just fun games in general, do yourself a favour and play Legacy of the Dark Knight.
Despite its cute art style, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is an entertaining action-adventure game that will keep players entertained for hours, even with its simpler combat system, occasionally clunky controls, and a somewhat annoying number of bugs. Thanks to its amazingly crafted levels, rich open world, and great story, the game can proudly stand alongside the successful Batman: Arkham series. And it can certainly be considered one of the best LEGO games.

Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight takes two opposite ends of the spectrum, Lego comedy and accessible gameplay with Batman’s darker tone and stealth-oriented sections, and meshes them together to great effect with only a few outliers. Visually stunning, inventive mission structure and an impressive open-world Gotham full of hilarious comedic writing. Some aspects that are made more accessible for a younger audience, such as combat, don’t hit as well, but if you adjust to this lighter, comedy-first Batman, then there’s something for both newcomers and veterans to enjoy.
It’s time, then, to draw our conclusions from this review of LEGO Batman: Legacy of The Dark Knight, stating that this is a game we highly recommend. It doesn’t break any new ground in terms of gameplay, but everything it does, it does very well. As much fun as all LEGO games are, this is the closest we’ve come in years to a new game in the Arkham series. Recommended for all LEGO fans, Batman fans, or anyone who loves open-world action-adventure games.

Legacy of the Dark Knight is TT Games’ most ambitious and most successful LEGO game in years — a genuine Batman experience wrapped in the LEGO brand’s best qualities, with a campaign that earns its runtime and a Gotham worth spending time in. Its weaknesses — the thin roster, the post-game content drop-off, the performance wrinkles — are real, but they don’t diminish what the game does right. Which is quite a lot.
Legacy of the Dark Knight doesn’t just feel like another Lego Batman game. It feels like the future of the Lego franchise, and it’s one I thoroughly enjoyed from beginning to end.
Who could have thought that, after the surefire disaster that was the Suicide Squad game, the salvation to the cherished Batman Arkham gameplay loop would arrive in the form of a Lego game? Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight isn’t just “a good Lego game”, or “a fun diversion if you like Batman”. It’s an impressive new direction for the TT Games Lego formula, focusing on quality over quantity, deeper gameplay over mindless collectability, and an even deeper level of polish and writing.
Only seven playable characters, a lack of mini kits and skins posing as rewards instead of real gameplay advantages? Compared to earlier Lego outings from TT Games this feels like a downgrade to me. On top of that the activities tend to be to samey while also happening always in the same setting as opposed world hopping former Lego adventures. Still: Lego Batman - Legacy of the Dark Knight has ignited my collectathon fever once more, the animations are endearing and the dark atmosphere in Gotham City's eternal nighttime is crafted so well it is striking.

In many ways, a huge step forward across the board. It is not without a few stumbles, but the lingering repetitiveness is still masked well. I don’t know if we’re likely to see another Arkham game any time soon, but as long as we get something as inventive and as fun as LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, I’m perfectly prepared to wait a lot longer.
LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is a great love letter to the Caped Crusader. Certainly, the story adapts the movies at the expense of the comic source material, the gameplay is a near replica of the Arkham games, and there are numerous technical issues and limited content. However, the story's overall charm, the fun gameplay, and the numerous costumes and Batmobiles to chew into mean that this is a must-play for hardcore Batman fans and younger audiences alike.
For the most part, it delivered on what it promised: a Batman game that takes the character seriously without losing the humor, with an open world worth actually spending time in. There are a few areas where it falls short, but more often than not, it exceeds expectations.
The game offers plenty of side missions as well as a free-roam style that allows for lots of play after completing the main story, and also allows players to spend time with some costumes and ability variants.
LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is a lovingly crafted nostalgia trip that could do with a tighter focus to really spread its leathery wings.
It's a game clearly built with affection for the character, packed with references for longtime fans and accessible enough for those simply looking for a fun adventure with friends. It's also commendable that Traveller's Tales, with its latest releases, has chosen to tailor the experience to the specific franchise they're working with, as was the case with The Skywalker Saga. Obviously, this has meant a much longer wait for the next game, but it's worth it. That's why, even though 12 years have passed since Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham (2014), the Dark Knight has proven he still knows how to make a comeback.
