MLB The Show 26 is a competent, iterative update to a series that has been making competent, iterative updates for the better part of a decade.

MLB The Show 26 is still one of the best sports games in town, but it's starting to show its flaws. Despite all the advancements and positive additions, it's getting harder to ignore some of its issues. For the first time in recent years, I'm not sure if MLB The Show is worth the money. For all the good the game does, I can't keep ignoring all of the mounting issues.

MLB The Show 26 is an excellent baseball sim when assessed in a vacuum, but some fans may want to wait for a bolder franchise refresh.

Fun, varied, and packed with different game modes, MLB The Show 26 offers a complete experience that leaves little to be desired, easily catering to baseball fans of all kinds. While this year's changes don't make a major impact - mostly refining what was already an excellent gameplay foundation - the core experience remains as strong as ever. For those ready to dive back in for another season of pitching duels, strikeouts, and towering home runs, the game delivers a well-rounded package that suits both a more casual playstyle and those looking for a true Major League-level challenge.

They desperately need to update the visuals, fix the bugs, and put some actual effort into the presentation and career modes. Until then, The Show will remain spinning its wheels in the dirt, hoping the fans won’t notice that the engine is starting to smoke.

MLB The Show 26 provides a decent baseball experience, but it’s not easy to learn compared to previous entries. It also doesn’t feel like much has changed since the previous release, giving you an almost identical experience. That makes it harder to recommend since you could just play previous entries and have more fun. Instead, you get a more gruelling and difficult experience that does resemble baseball but isn’t enjoyable to play through.

MLB The Show 26 from developer San Diego Studio and publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment is a solid improvement from last year’s game, with more data inclusion, smoother career decision-making, and better backend gameplay refinements. While not a huge leap from the previous year, it’s still a good release with enough reason to consider it, especially if you’re a new player who doesn’t have last year’s game.

There's a lot to learn, but once you're in the zone, MLB The Show 26 yields an authentic on-field experience more than most other sports sims.

While I have really enjoyed my time with MLB The Show 26, it does unfortunately fall into the category of “just another sports game update.” Some of the new features do improve the quality of life, like PCI Sensitivity and Depth of Field.

Stunning but "dated": World Series-caliber gameplay in a graphics engine that feels outdated. That's the paradox: it drives you wild… and then, in the blink of an eye, it reminds you why you just can't put it down.

MLB The Show 26 is a confident and enjoyable evolution of the series that continues to refine its gameplay in smart and meaningful ways. The additions of modern baseball systems and improvements to Road To The Show show a clear understanding of what players want. However, on Nintendo Switch 2, it feels like a half step forward. The performance gains are appreciated, but the lack of visual upgrades keeps it from feeling like a true leap. For baseball fans, there is still plenty here to love. Just do not expect it to fully take advantage of the hardware it is running on.

MLB The Show 26 offers gameplay that’s as solid as ever, comprehensive game modes, and exemplary accessibility. For someone new to the series, it’s undoubtedly a great place to start. However, for regular players, the picture is more nuanced. The lack of real innovations, the aging technical execution, and online issues give the impression of a franchise that is taking more steps backward than forward.

MLB The Show 26 slides into bases it's already covered, beginning to feel like a bat that could crack with even one more hit. While there are new things to love, there are too many strikeouts.
