I loved the art style and relaxing nature of Woodo and had a great time playing a level at a time. I wish that Woodo was supported on the ROG Ally as it would be an ideal game to take on the go and play on vacation or towards the end of the day. If you are looking for a puzzle game for a younger gamer or a relaxing game to play for a few hours, Woodo is a fantastic option.

It’s a short, beautiful game, both visually and narratively, filled with adorable characters and stunning dioramas that are incredibly satisfying to piece back together.

By combining different facets of an assortment of peaceful activities - colouring-in, jigsaw-puzzling, Lego-building and more - Woodo hits on a formula for pure relaxation. Its gorgeous presentation, both graphics and sound, makes it irresistible to interact with. There's a lot of repetition involved in getting into the zone, and sometimes I wished the storytelling would get out of the way and lean into the unspoken feelings that the dioramas convey without a voiceover. However, none of that was enough to snap me out of its cosy spell.

I guess that's the thing about games and art more generally, such works can hit you when you least expect it but most need it. Certainly in this sense, Woodo is a precious and touching labour of love that hopes to pay it forward. From a purely mechanical perspective Woodo is not especially innovative and certainly not at all challenging, but it is enormously relaxing, weapons-grade adorable and potent enough in its role as a distraction from all of the awful spectrums of crap going on in the world, that it is precisely the sort of salve that I need at this time in my life. Maybe it will be the same for you too right now and if not, Woodo will assuredly, yet quietly, earn its place at some later point in your lifetime when you need it most, like a toy from a forgotten youth left in a cupboard that you rediscover years later.

Woodo is an incredibly relaxing addition to the cozy game genre. I found myself coming home from work and spending 30 minutes winding down with this game. My brain stayed active during the puzzle elements of this game, while the music and cute dioramas kept that relaxing vibe going. The team at Tiny Monks Tale have delivered a solid game that stands out amongst the crowded cozy game genre. The game is really ideal for any age, kids will love the characters and the Pixar-Dreamworks like animation will hold their attention. While the puzzle elements may stump them a little at times, it can be played alone or with other people in the room helping point out the obvious pieces that you missed. It’s a perfect cozy puzzler you can easily get lost in for many hours.

Overall, despite some control issues and uneven pacing, Woodo is still a title I can largely recommend to players who want a few hours of calming escapism with some stunning visuals, a gentle plot, and meditative gameplay. While perhaps the result is very much style over substance, that style is so warm and inviting it’s easy to overlook a few flaws and simplistic gameplay, at least for its short runtime.

I was never the same after that summer. Gaining new friends that I frequented for years to come, although I tried to resist the change future me is grateful that things turned out the way they did. Likewise, once Foxy leaves her electronics and decides to look up at the world above, she really starts to live. To appreciate the world in new ways, to recognize that these fleeting moments will become cherished memories, to feel that life is worth living. Woodo appreciates profound storytelling as much as its adorable art style. So much for a simple puzzle game.

I adore a melancholy experience. It makes you reflect on life and brings you closer to your emotions. Woodo does just that with its excellent storytelling, fine visuals, and slow gameplay. It’s not going to be for everyone. However, if you want a change of pace and something that’ll touch your soul, this is the game for you. Tiny Monk Tales developed this artistic, diorama game. It is a single-player experience that is as supportive or hands-off as you want. Each of the levels has multiple layers that must be explored if you wish to move on. Furthermore, there are plenty of secrets to discover. Woodo is a story of reflection. Looking back on your life is something we all do. Occasionally, there is regret, but most of it is experienced through rose-tinted spectacles. The result is a warm feeling that leaves you smiling. This is exactly what happens when you play Woodo. It taps into that sense of nostalgia that keeps us all in a good place. You play the role of a cute and fluffy animal called Foxy. They are looking back at key moments in their life. However, their memory is fuzzy, and they need help to piece together key elements. As you drop the jigsaw pieces in place, the memories become animated. This simple layer of energy is cute, and I loved every second. Piecing things together. I’m not normally a massive fan of jigsaws. Nor do I like to search for the most minor of details. However, Woodo does this so well that it doesn’t feel like a chore. Instead, it has a magical edge that is rewarding and relaxing. Each of the levels asks you to build more complex pictures of the protagonist’s life. Friends come to call, geese become aggressive, and things get a little out of hand. However, at its core, it is beautifully calm and reflective. On top of this, the story punctuates key moments to great effect. The result is a gentle game that tells an amusing and touching story. Woodo looks great. Each stage starts out as a bland and colourless canvas. As you drop in pieces, you build up a new and vibrant world. Items can be interacted with, and creatures start to walk. The simple animation is truly fantastic, and I loved the cute and secretive moments. The audio is where Woodo thrives. The narration is warm and reassuring. Furthermore, it captures the on-screen vibes perfectly. Each level feels unique and personal. Although they are complex, they are never overwhelming or a chore to complete. The control system is understandably simple. You must rotate the camera, grab pieces, and work through the puzzles. It demands accuracy, but this wasn’t a problem. If you struggle, there is a hint system, and you can get automatic help as well. Replay value is sadly limited to achievement hunters. I flew through the levels, and I’m unlikely to return for more. If the developer incorporates new DLC, I would definitely want to dive back in. Woodo is fantastic. Woodo won’t be for everyone. It is too relaxing, calm, and deep for lovers of short, sharp action. However, if you want something that is reflective, wholesome, and safe to play, this is the game for you. I think it’s brilliant, and I recommend grabbing a copy from the Xbox Store!
