Dog Man: Bark In Action Reviews
Dog Man and the Supa Friends are back in action!
A great follow-up to Mission Impawsible that continues to show how to properly take a license geared at kids and turn it into a solidly-accessible game experience
Dog Man: Bark in Action is a great platformer for people with less experience in the genre. For those with a bit more platforming under their belt, though, it still manages to be a worthwhile genre inclusion, even if it doesn’t always feel particularly challenging. At the very least, it's an endearing and cute game that manages to evoke the basic reaction one should want from a video game: fun.
Dog Man: Bark in Action is exactly the sort of licensed children’s game I want to see more often. It understands the license, captures Dav Pilkey’s strange little world and gives children plenty of familiar characters to recognize, but there is also a genuinely good 2D platformer underneath it. The difficulty is forgiving enough that younger players can make progress without constantly handing over the controller, while the character switching and level design give the adult beside them enough to do as well. The artwork fits Dog Man perfectly, and keeping everything in two dimensions makes the platforming easy to read and enjoyable to play. I mean, you don’t technically need a child beside you, but it gives you someone else to blame when you miss the jump.
Dog Man: Bark in Action does exactly what the title suggests: Back in action, the same action as its predecessor. However, that game was already very good, and this title continues this with a massive number of levels offering you nearly ten hours of gameplay. If you want to unlock and collect everything, you will need quite a bit more time. So, if you were a fan of the first installment, or have never played this title before, it doesn't really matter which of the two games you start with. This title is at least just as good and feels more like an expansion in terms of content than a completely new game. However, the game is at least as long, at least as good, and at least as fun.
