Ultimately, Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition is just like the original, with a couple of added tweaks — this is a good thing! If you've purchased the original, it can be a hard decision to purchase this. If you are a big fan of the series and cannot wait to pummel enemies in Intenso mode, then by all means pick this up. If you never played the original and enjoy Castlevania-like beat-em-ups, then definitely pick this up. If you love lucha libre lore, then of course pick this up. Finally, if you are a fan of funny games, then don't hesitate to pick this game up and play!

As fun in this beefed-up incarnation as in its original release, Guacamelee Super Turbo Champion Edition offers one of the best-designed and most original takes on the well-worn metroidvania phenomenon you'll ever find. The new material may not quite bring enough to the table to warrant a second purchase, and the game doesn't exactly push PS4 or Xbox One to the ragged edge of their capabilities, but once again excellent game design has less to do with technical specs and more to do with creativity and thoughtfulness: Features Guacamelee possesses in spades.

It would have been easy to "brutally" convert the already solid Guacamelee! to propose it even to those who had not played it on PlayStation Vita. And instead Drinkbox Studio decides to present itself with a very special re-edition. Although the changes to the combat system and the addition of some moves and the rabid Intense mode do not change the balance of the game, here there are new areas and an unprecedented boss fight, inspired and well built, which can almost be considered an "endgame" content by those who have already completed Juan's adventure.

‎Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition is still just as rewarding to play a year on as it was then. The colorful, humorous world is a welcome change from all the dark games and besides, we rarely see this Mexican style in gameland. What's more, there's an offline cooperative mode that allows you to finish the game entirely with a fellow luchador.‎

Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition doesn't get much wrong throughout, and the inclusion of new levels and enemies adds longevity to an already great experience. It can be a little repetitive if played for long periods, but the unique and likeable art-style and effortlessly enjoyable combat carry it through.

The only issues with Guacamelee are simply minor quibbles that keep it from true masterpiece status. It's hard to worry too much about these slight imperfections when the game hits so many right notes, ranging from the lavish presentation to the deep combat and platforming. On the whole, it's a brisk and refreshing joy to play, with a lively personality that's eminently endearing. Guacamelee is a fantastic Metroid-inspired platformer that shouldn't be missed.

G!STCE is an amazing achievement for an indie studio. The game is a perfect example of a Metroidvania style adventure and although it takes a lot of cues from its predecessors, it adds enough of its own originality to stand out from the crowd. I hope DrinkBox decide to bring back Juan and his world for a second outing in a sequel. For such a popular genre among gamers, it's surprising how few Metroidvanias actually make it out to mainstream consoles.

Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition, despite the main game being a year old, proves to still be one of the premier downloadable titles around. Its expertly-tuned combat, responsive platforming and addicting exploration and upgrade elements make damn sure of that.

Guacamelee was great first time around and Drinkbox have taken something fantastic and improved on it even more this time with this release. In short, you wont regret buying this, even if you have before. I for one am looking forward to a sequel, but before that, maybe just one more go…

A longer running time helps address one of the few flaws with the original game, and single-handedly makes up for the lack of official new Metroid and Castlevania games.

In addition to being a fun gameplay experience, it's also an example of how artistic vision and clever, light-hearted writing can enhance an experience, an example of what can be achieved when development studios devote themselves fully to delivering a high quality product. If you're an action platformer fan with quick thumbs, this is a must-buy.

Rhythmic, colorful, funny, clever, the Latin Guacamelee! is so successful that it will make me lose my Latin. And like a plate of pollo nachos,it is to be shared. In this expanded version called Super Turbo Championship Edition, the Canadians of Drinkbox offer a little more to play and have mostly corrected the small flaws of their game already released on PS3, Vita, PC and Mac, and now available on Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii U and PS4... The new hit of the summer on consoles.
