Final Fantasy XIV Online: A Realm Reborn Reviews
The completionist in me is nearly overwhelmed with the sheer amount of things to do in A Realm Reborn. Square Enix really do deserve praise for not only fixing the issues of the original game, but far exceeding their goal.
A no-brainer upgrade for PS3 players and a great option for those looking to get into the excellent A Realm Reborn experience with no hassle.
A Realm Reborn fits well into the scene of MMORPG's today while still retaining its identity as a Final Fantasy entry. Even so, while it does have a few genuinely novel features, it fails to add much to an already stagnant genre. If you like MMO's and are looking for that next fix, then I suggest A Realm Reborn over its competitors, but if you have the means, then I'd say you should pick up the PC version of the game.
Simply put, there is no better looking MMO currently available on consoles
A Realm Reborn is an excellent game and one of the best MMOs on the market, regardless of what platform you're playing it on. PC gamers who already own the game probably don't have a huge incentive to pick this version up, but this is far and away the best version available if you don't have access to a high end PC. If you already own the PS3 version, there's no reason not to upgrade to this version. You'll be glad you did.
While it isn't perfect, A Realm Reborn is an important first step towards Final Fantasy meaning "day-one purchase" once again.
Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is a great introduction to the world of Final Fantasy for both new and old fans of the series, as well as people looking for a new or different MMO to play. While still having a lot of the standard tropes that an MMO does have, along with a lot of ones from the Final Fantasy series, the combination of both are a breath of fresh air for those people who have been stuck inhaling the stench of World of Warcraft for over a decade.
Maybe it's the graphics, the outstanding soundtrack or just the charm that calls you back time after time. A Realm Reborn has been born anew and it remains one of the best MMOs on the market.
A Realm Reborn was already a great game when it launched, though it admittedly ran out of steam after a few months. Thanks to a bunch of content upgrades and a new level of sheen afforded by the PS4 hardware however, the game is easily one of the best on the market right now.
This mixture makes it one of my favourite MMOs of the last couple of years and one that certainly goes into my top three of all time.
But it's beyond clear that Final Fantasy XIV has, in fact, been reborn. This is everything players wanted the original game to be--it might avoid pushing the boundaries, but it provides hours upon hours of well-designed quest sequences, breathtaking graphics, and a gripping plot. At last, we have a modern MMO worthy of the Final Fantasy name.
Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is a stunning game that changes my mind on MMORPGs
Utterly addictive and packed to the brim with what is currently months' worth of content - with years' more of it guaranteed in regular updates - Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn absolutely deserves taking that leap for both MMO and Final Fantasy fans alike. Just be prepared for something very different if not coming from an MMO background, and to say goodbye to whatever free time there once was.
The reasoning for such high praise of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn should be obvious. At the end of the day, the simple fact is that Square Enix actually put in effort and care and managed to craft something that truly is Final Fantasy through and through. It would have been so easy to declare this game a lost cause or just do the minimal amount of work to make it viable, but, instead, the developers dedicated themselves to turning this MMO on its head - and they succeeded.
There's not much else I can say that I haven't already said in my review of the PlayStation 3 game. This was always a great game, but the improved visuals and social features, as well as the additional content that Square Enix continues to add into the game, is enough for me to happily say that Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn has become my favourite MMO. It's well worth the subscription fee.
Square Enix has pulled off the seemingly impossible: rescuing a disastrous flop of an online game without going free-to-play, and creating an incredibly addictive, satisfying experience for both MMO and Final Fantasy veterans in the process. A Realm Reborn is a triumph for Naoki Yoshida and his team.
If you are a super fan of Japanese or Asian culture, it is worth a try for this unique MMORPG.
