MXGP2 takes itself way too seriously in a genre that doesn’t require it in games. The realism is commendable, but also limiting to the appeal of the game. The lackluster visuals and goofy animations also stand out, and the lack of anyone playing online completely nullifies the need for that mode.

MXGP2 isn’t going to convert anyone over to motocross, but it will happily entertain anyone who is a fan.

When considering the volume and frequency of Milestone's motorbike-focussed output, it wouldn't be too out of line to suspect that MXGP2 might have been 'dialled in' to an extent, though making such an assumption would be doing the developer a great disservice, considering that it does everything it sets out to do very competently. While the managerial aspects of the campaign do feel like an unnecessary dressing used to pad out the experience, scramble fans eager to release the throttle and churn up the tracks should still enjoy the wealth of content on offer.

The landscape may be ridged and cultivated with bumps, hills, and trenches to affect the physics of the ride, but the texture falls flat.

Steer clear of MXGP 2 unless you're a Time Attack enthusiast or a motocross fanatic who can overlook the game's faults.

Novices need not apply: MXGP 2 is designed for only the most dedicated of motocross fans. Those that are interested, and willing to look past poor performance issues, though, will find a treasure trove of content that will satisfy their needs.

MXGP2: The Official Motocross Videogame is a decent motocross racing game that could benefit from some energy and life in the presentation, but the interesting modes and gameplay to keep it from falling over. MXGP2: The Official Motocross Videogame is a vast improvement over its predecessor, while still lacking a bit of personality, does make up for it in gameplay.

There really aren't many simulation motocross games being made anymore, but thankfully Milestone has made a good one. 'MXGP 2' lacks polish in its visuals and multiplayer, but I still ended up having plenty of fun once I got past the learning curve. While there is still plenty of room for the series to grow, fans of motorbike racing won't find anything better on the current generation of consoles right now.

In totality, this game feels like a shell that has a decent foundation with its gameplay. Unfortunately, it lacks variety, flair and depth.

MXGP2 is a step forward for the series, not a huge leap forward by any means, but the improved bike and rider controls bring enough to the table to keep things fresh. Motocross fans are likely to be pleased, but those not into the extreme sport might not find it as enjoyable.

MXGP2 is among the best in the Milestone portfolio. It's not a perfect product, but motocross fans shouldn't miss the game. Don't be discouraged by the initial difficulty, you'll just need a little training and tougher nerves. The game offers a lot of content with an official license, but it's a pity that the developers were unable to complete their efforts in full.

MXGP 2 desperately needs a new graphic engine. It's a solid motocross experience but there aren't many improvements from the previous chapter.
