Prey could have been more than a good game, but will not exceed this status, to our deep regret. It's the fault of script, narrative and writing problems, the three nemesis of Arkane Studios. We can fortunately rely on an always inspired level design, giving to the player a liberty, and an efficient gameplay. The last part of the game and the end spoil the party too, icing an already very slow rythm. Prey remains a good choice if you're looking for a less boom-boom FPS and if you like the sci-fi atmosphere.

Coming into this game expecting maybe an above average alien shooter, I was actually really impressed. It has the makings of a BioShock or System Shock while keeping it fresh with new abilities and full exploration to play how I wanted. The horror elements are there and work well, and while the story isn't the best out there, it is enough to keep people playing. If you're looking for a new horror game or even a game much like Dishonored where freedom to do what you want is the main crux, Prey is the game for you.

It's easy to see that Arkane Studios have been looking quite a lot on Bioshock and Dead Space with Prey. It might not be quite as good as those, mainly due to some poor combat mechanics, but it has an interesting story and a well-designed world.

Prey's level design is one of the best I have ever experienced, and it is a result of the overall gameplay, physical level design, atmosphere, and sound that make it extraordinary

Until such time that System Shock 3 may challenge it, Prey is the follow up to System Shock 2 in everything but name. Arkane reaffirm their commitment to ‘immersive sims' in impressive fashion.

Prey gives you a luxurious sci-fi playground and a great set of tools to use within it. Combat may be underwhelming, and the main story equally so, but the level of immersion on display is still absolutely stellar.

‎In short, this IP reboot is one of those games that won't score a before and after, but it does run as one of this year's greats. A fun, compact game with one of the roundest experiences we can find in this generation.‎

Prey ends up being much more than a mosaic: thanks to its narrative, and the mobility of a gameplay that constantly evolves for the more than twenty hours of the main adventure, the game leaves a trace that ends up being unique.

I thoroughly recommend Prey, particularly to those who even remotely enjoyed Dishonored or BioShock – there's plenty here that will attract attention. It's a great game.

Prey is highly sophisticated game in terms of gameplay, level design and narrative. It's graphical and artificial intelligence problems are easy to notice, although, we have a great sci-fi experience.

Prey is the best BioShock-style game we've seen in years. It gets better the more you play it, and hides secrets that encourage repeat playthroughs. For fans of single-player titles, Prey is a game that belongs in Game of the Year discussions.

Despite its noticeable technical shortcomings, Prey still has some significant redeeming qualities. Its environment is one of the most enjoyable to explore and the way it weaves its overarching story into side quests only helps to accentuate the freedom you're given as a player.

Demanding action game, which is prevented from getting higher scores by frustration and shapeless characters.

Prey burrows beneath your skin and never quite leaves your waking thoughts, but it's also buggy and imbalanced, marrying a first-rate setting to uneven gameplay. Comparisons with Bioshock are inevitable, but with its peaks and troughs, Prey reminds me more of Alien: Isolation.

If you're looking for a good science-fiction survival game with a ton of fresh ideas, deep and satisfying mechanics with a lot of replayability and, of course a great setting... Well, look elsewhere, because Prey is not good : it's amazing.

Prey's systems collide delightfully as the player moves through its magnificently designed interiors, and the stories within are also something extraordinary. Hunt it down with haste.

Although Prey's combat and narrative fail to fill the shoes of the games they're so obviously taking inspiration from, the visit to its Talos I space station is a marvel in interconnected level design and presentation. This is environmental storytelling and mechanical tension done to a tee, even if Prey is working hard to try and yank you out of its immersion far too often.

Prey's greatest success is its approach to choice and exploration. For players looking for a direct and focused single player shooter experience, this will undoubtedly disappoint and perhaps even frustrate, but for players looking for a smart and immersive world rife with intrigue and tension, Prey is a quality companion for some true classics.
