Yooka Laylee Reviews
All in all, Yooka Laylee is neither as bad or good as most say. It’s a solid platformer that caters to the old school crowd while occasionally getting lost and muddled in the game mechanics of a time long gone. There is charm and wit in its writing, and frustration in its controls. For every positive, there is a negative. The takeaway is an extremely okay platforming experience with extreme amounts of nostalgia and decent potential for a future franchise.
Despite the defects and bitter aftertaste, Playtonic's Yooka-Laylee fulfills in part its main promise: one of bringing back the nostalgic N64 platformer games.. This highly respected tribute to the productions of the Rare era should undoubtedly be a great pick its fans, with the same gameplay mechanics, colors, worlds, and themes, but in the end lack the soul and flair that made that old generation what it is.
Bringing back the 90s in a fresh modern twist yet maintaining its nostalgic roots.
Yooka-Laylee brings back the best memories of good old 3D platformers from the Nintendo 64 era, but along with it, comes some of the bad choices made at the time.

Fundamentally Yooka-Laylee is a good game, but it’s a shame that Playtonic failed to bring an undeniable great game. The potential was extremely high but they left me a little disappointed. Wonky controls, bad camera work, annoying voice dialogue and issues with performance make Yooka-Laylee nothing more than an average game. It could have been so much more …
If you are jonesing for an authentic N64 experience then this will certainly fit the bill but if you are after a quality 3D platform game you would be much better served picking up Ratchet and Clank or waiting for Mario Odessy. Sadly Yooka Laylee is too stuck in the past to take the genre into the future.
Yooka-Laylee is an excellent 3D platformer, featuring open levels that reward skill and exploration, tight gameplay mechanics and a killer soundtrack. A few technical issues prevent it from reaching the heights achieved by classics such as Banjo-Kazooie, but gamers looking for a collect-a-thon in 2017 should definitely consider picking up Playtonic Games’ debut title.
Overall, Yooka Laylee sets out what it originally promised - it gave us a fun and entertaining ode to 3D platformers of old. The controls needs some polish. And the camera and lack of voice acting is annoying. I still recommend Yooka Laylee, especially if you are looking for a 3D platformer with many areas to explore and challenges to conquer.
Playtonic Games hasn't only given us a great game to play, they have started a new franchise I hope to explore for years to come.

Yooka-Laylee is a solid 90s platformer filled with nostalgia. Sadly, nostalgia alone can't disguise its issues nor the issues from games which inspired it.

Yooka-Laylee is a very good game with lots of humour, a fairly standard kids rescue type story, but with the worlds and what can be done in each, there are hours of fun to be had and I would highly recommend giving this a go if your a fan of open world platformers.
Overall Yooka – Laylee is a good game and can be very fun. But with more polishing, this game could have been something special.
Yooka-Laylee is the best 3D platformer since the N64.
Yooka-Laylee is a fantastic game that delivers on its aspirations as Banjo-Kazooie's spiritual successor.
No, it may not do anything particularly new or innovative, but it doesn’t really need to – it’s still one of the most solid, charming, and just plain fun platformers in years. It has its flaws, yes, like any other game, but those flaws are offset by a brilliantly-designed open world and the ridiculous amount of content on offer. It’s a welcome reminder of a bygone era that feels familiar even as it offers vast improvements on its storied predecessors.
Yooka-Laylee is simply amazing, it's a blast to play and one of the best 3D platformers ever.
Yooka-Laylee is a great first effort from Playtonic Games. The characters and environments are quirky and unique, the collectibles all have a purpose, and the unlockable abilities are fun to use. Despite a few performance issues and some baffling ease-of-use omissions, I enjoyed my time with this game. It takes over 30 hours to complete the game with 100% of the collectibles, which is plenty of content to keep you busy, especially considering the $40 price tag.
