A solid rally racer, but also a worryingly indecisive one whose attempts to please everyone leads to an unfocused game that's lacking in character.

If you have been a fan of the Dirt series prior to this release, you'll be happy with this game. If you're new to the series but have played other racing games, you'll likely find some things you like and others you don't. However, it's hard to imagine any gamer with a taste for racing titles finding major fault with Dirt 4.

Although I almost exclusively had my fun with the rally part of Dirt 4, the game is a loaded package that fills in a lot of Dirt Rally's blanks

DiRT 4 is an excellently playable off-road racer for novices and pros, that lacks a real unique feature.

DiRT 4 is a great racing game thanks to its sophisticated physics, gameplay mechanics and precise controls.

DiRT 4 delivers a great rally experience, specially with the different racing types including Rallycross. Some visuals are not what we can expect in the current generation, but the driving experience is great. Also, Codemasters did a great job adding a tool that helps you randomize routes and tracks, so basically you can have unlimited tracks to race on.

While many modern racers attempt to deliver a visual showcase, Dirt 4 instead focuses on what's going on under the bonnet. Every vehicle – except those damn crosskarts – feels incredible, as if you're trying to tame some naughty mechanical beast. Each shunt deforms your car's body, each lap cakes it in dirt, and you can see your driver's head wobbling around as you drive over each bump. It's super-convincing.

I enjoyed every moment of DiRT 4 that I played, and up until I started up the game I didn’t know jack about rally racing. Truth be told, I still don’t, but that doesn’t make the game any less fun. I’ll be happy to keep plugging away at the game long after I wrap all of the racing stages. Until then, happy driving and vroom vroom!

If you’re looking for a new racer that feels different from the likes of Forza and Gran Turismo, but don’t mind a bit of a learning curve, DiRT 4 is definitely worth checking out. Between the time based rallies and actual racing events, Codemasters continues to prove why they are one of the best in the racing game business with DiRT 4.

Thanks to great, authentic, and accessible mechanics and plenty of content to offer, Dirt 4 is one of the best rallying games we've played in the last few years.

DiRT 4 really does succeed in extrapolating new things from two different sides of the driving spectrum. The 'Your Stage' procedural track generator really does feel like a revelation, which will ensure that drivers remain on their toes even after clocking countless hours already. As stated, it's remarkable what this can do for drivers if they're willing to adapt and learn, and certainly helps to cultivate technical understanding and development. A more in-depth follow-up review on the PC version will be coming soon, but there's no doubt about it: DiRT 4 is one of the most exciting driving releases this year. A much-celebrated brand comes back with a bang.

In short, we have to say that DiRT 4 is really a good title, perhaps what we expected from Codemasters, which certainly offers a good compromise between simulation and arcade. The title more than being a mere successor to DiRT 3, seems to be more on the line of DiRT Rally, which will surely make the eyes of the enthusiasts glitter.

An accessible, customisable off-road racer let down by a half-hearted career mode.

DiRT 4 is something of a feat: both a considered challenge and an appetizer to the world of rallying at large. It helps that the actual racing is spot on, too, with cars that handle brilliantly.

Whether you are a newcomer or veteran in the Dirt Rally series Dirt 4 is the apex in RallyCross racing. When you look back to Dirt Rally there were a few flaws that you would think would be ironed out and additional features added, well  Dirt 4 does that spectacularly well while also making it enjoyable for the newcomers who are on a journey to being fearless. Dirt 4 has redefined rally games, not sure if Codemasters know how high they set the bar now :)

I've never been more charmed by a racing video game and I could not recommend any other more than Dirt 4, to anyone of any ability. Dirt 4 is a joy.

With better care given to the other modes and maybe some concrete rally tracks, this could have been the definitive rally racing game. As it stands, though, DiRT 4 is a hardcore simulation with limited appeal beyond a specific audience. Those fans will absolutely love this game, but any newcomers should try to cut their teeth somewhere else.

Dirt 4 is a great rally game. The accessibility it presents to newcomers, quickly transcending into more advanced driving techniques is one of its strongest features, but the thrill of the race on these unpredictable, minimap-less tracks never failed to get my heart pumping. There are some odd quirks with physics – cars have a tendency to pirouette like a ballerina from hitting a ridge the wrong way – and a too limited track creator, but these are nitpicks before all that Dirt 4 does so right. It’s time to get dirty.
