Outlast II excels on all fronts when it comes to terrifying players thanks to its convincing scares and setting, and while its copious amounts of gore will get under your skin, its bigger, grander ideas are sure to get inside a far more sinister place: your head.

Red Barrels's game is an immature and hateful slight at anyone who dares to believe in a divine creator.

A gripping horror game that loses effect over time after a great start and therefore remains behind the first Outlast.

Outlast 2 is a great sequel to the game that started this series. Awesome atmosphere, a scary setting, good game mechanics and an interesting story, are some of the elements that makes this game a must have to survival horror fans.

Outlast 2 takes its original idea and builds on it very well to create a sequel that's straight up terrifying. A must for those who love nothing more than feeling the fear.

Outlast 2 is a good and very frightening horror game, but with some flaws like this anoying "die & retry" gameplay and linear pace.

Outlast 2 is more of an ordeal than the first, in terms of content but also gameplay. The story provides some momentum, but trial and error sequences will see many succumb to frustration (and many large pick axes).

Outlast 2 ramps up the tension and the technical achievement from the original, with one of the most stunningly atmospheric game worlds around. The level design has expanded along with your stealth options, creating a handful of truly memorable moments. It definitely isn't for everyone, though. Themes of religious perversion and abuse make Outlast 2 (un)comfortably the most horrific experience on Switch, while the limitations of its stealth mechanics can try the patience.

I would consider it a must play if you're a fan of horror games.

Outlast 2 brings another horror-themed game to the Nintendo Switch catalog and while its ambiance, soundscape and plot are definitely worth checking out, the game doesn't quite rise above its predecessor in terms of overall quality. This is not to say Outlast 2 is not worthy of consideration, as its contribution to the Nintendo Switch is most definitely welcome but it's inevitable to compare it to the original and to think that it doesn't quite achieve its level.

Outlast II is a marked improvement over the original Outlast in almost every way. It's still scary, yet utilises smarter designed scares to keep the tension high from beginning to end. The story is bound to be controversial, given the themes it tackles, but will easily demand and keep your attention from beginning to end. First person indie horror as a genre has lost its vision over the years, but Outlast II firmly stands tall as one of the best examples. It's absolutely terrifying and a staunch improvement over the original.

Outlast 2 maybe is not the best game in the genre, but it still makes a great intense horror. Developer knows, how to correctly expand the series' universe and delivered slightly better game than the last one.

At some point, it was decided horror games were more effective if they didn't involve combat; since then, they've flailed looking for ways to fill a now empty space, and a groundswell of aspiration, toward making videogames broadly about more than murdering for reward, has emboldened them. However, if the creators of horror games have silently, collectively agreed to redefine a genre, Outlast 2, packed with nonsense plot, engorged levels and frantic, anonymous bloodshed, feels like the definitive failure of their ambition. Don't be fooled by it, or its intent.

Outlast II should have been everything that the first game wasn't. Instead, it's a bloated, overwrought, and incredibly frustrating survival horror game. Not terrible by any means, but not all that great either. Shame.

Red Barrels really knows how to get under your skin. Play the game, you will understand. The dark undertones of the game set up the story throughout and constantly make you think wtf, yet you still want more. Buy Outlast 2, be scared, you won't be disappointed.

Outlast 2 on Switch is a great way to tackle what is one of the scariest horror games I've played in recent memory. The port is excellent, only marred by some inconsistencies seen in the game itself — horror fans should definitely check this one out.

Outlast 2 investigates human perversion from the point of view of a pseudo-religion and its most obscene drifts. It keeps the structure of the previous chapter and manages to satisfy hardcore horror lovers.

While you won't feel any sympathy for an overly talkative player character, the story will intrigue you, your enemies will terrify you, and every scene will leave you awestruck with dread.

This game has a little longer playtime than the original, but that will most likely be extended in the first playthrough due to the unfamiliarity with locations and enemies. Outlast 2 will punish and terrify at the same time; it's a cruel game.
