Serious Sam's Bogus Detour Reviews
Serious Sam's Bogus Detour is a surprisingly large shooter that takes the long-running arcade FPS and translates it perfectly into a new genre.
If you're looking for the latest graphics and a deep, gritty game, you won't find it here. However, you will find carnage, power-ups, weapons galore, a well thought-out multiplayer mode, hundreds of bullet sponges to mow down, huge levels and tonnes of style. It's an irreverent retro murder fest that doesn't take itself too seriously and manages to not only be funny, but most importantly be FUN - because that's why we play games, isn't it? For fun? PEW PEW!
Serious Sam: Bogus Detour does a fantastic job of distilling the Serious Sam formula down into a twin-stick shooter. While there are a couple hitches along the way, the game is a surprisingly robust package and a lot of quality content for a great price.
A reductionist shooter that maintains the over-the-top spirit of Serious Sam, for the most part.
Serious Sam's Bogus Detour is a good twin stick shooter, that takes a lot from thee past of the famous FPS.

Crackshell has managed to drip every ounce of Serious Sam and rework it into the twin-stick shooter formula with immaculate imitation of the first-person shooter its based upon.
As far as co-op experiences go, Serious Sam's Bogus Detour is up there with the best. Even in single player, you're in for a damn good ride.
Your enjoyment of Serious Sam's Bogus Detour is going to depend on your enjoyment of overly difficult shooters and your need for multiplayer. If the idea of having to traverse very large levels with the distinct possibility of starting all over when you lose all of your lives infuriates you, then this might not be the best game to play. If you want to engage in co-op or adversarial multiplayer, then make sure to convince friends to buy it since the online population is more interested in creating stages and mods than actually playing the core game. For everyone else, Bogus Detour is a solid shooter that is challenging, engaging and worth checking out.
Serious Sam’s Bogus Detour is a nostalgia-filled romp with familiar characters tossed into a new genre. The game loses little in its move over to the twin-stick shooter category, maintaining the components that we have all come to know and love over the past decade and a half. While not every new ingredient to Sam’s formula adds significant value, the end result is a lovingly-crafted shooter that retains the soul of Serious Sam.
Overall a simplistic game for some mindless fun that contains a robust modulation system and completely open source API for the community to use, the developer has even held Modding competitions since it’s release. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with this little run n gun shooter and will likely return if any new mod pops up that interests me.
With Serious Sam Bogus Detour you get exactly what you would expect out of a Serious Sam game. Fast combat, dumb yet persistent enemies and a big chunk of attitude. Only, in this case, it is all in 2D as opposed to the first person perspective.
I was seriously expecting something that I could sink in maybe 6-7 hours into but this game has just so little to offer. The community made stuff is interesting but I don’t see it succeeding that much in that department. It can be fun with friends and since you can have so many people playing it could be a really fun party game. But at a base level the game fails to impress at almost everything. It’s like it’s almost there but just doesn’t quite have it yet. I feel like I’ve been way too harsh on this game. And that might be cause I’ve been spoiled by so many great top-down shooters that they just leave this in the dust. Either way this game doesn’t have huge faults but it just lacking everywhere.
Look, guys, I’m trying to come up with something bad to say in the name of “objectivity,” but Serious Sam’s Bogus Detour (of all things) is as close as I’ve ever played to a flawless game.
Serious Sam's Bogus Detour is an excellent twin stick shooter that perfectly recreates the feeling of the mainline Serious Sam titles from a new perspective. The newly introduced RPG mechanics may not be everyone's cup of tea, but on the whole, Crackshell's latest release is a resounding success.
Don´t get me wrong, it´s fun to shoot hundreds of little enemies, hearing some cool Sam lines, and seeing all the blood spill on the ground, the surrounding systems just aren´t that good, lacking a true spirit or intention. Basically, Serious Sam´s Bogus Detour is a generic top down Shooter with some bigger flaws, nothing more, nothing less.
