Sundered Reviews
Sundered takes the indie, Metroidvania genre to new heights while showing just how good these types of experiences can be. Great gameplay could have carried this game far enough, but Thunder Lotus once again went for hand drawn art and the result is truly remarkable.
I truly am pleased I finally got the opportunity to play Sundered on my Switch. Eldritch Edition is a fantastic version of the game, offering just enough new content to sate the appetite of new players, while offering reasons for existing players to delve back in. For $19.99, you get a lot of adventure to enjoy, full of challenge and a twisted and diabolical story. I spent about 13 hours beating the game once, thoroughly searching out and killing all the optional minibosses and unlocking the Magnate of the Gong fight. After finally playing this, I’m eagerly looking forward to whatever the next project is that Thunder Lotus develops. In the meantime, I’ll be beating the game to get the other 2 endings. If you are looking for a reason to embrace madness and have a great time in the process, Sundered: Eldritch Edition is well worth your time.
The story of Eshe is confusing and mysterious. Throughout the game there are many questions to be asked about what her goal is or how she feels about her unfortunate predicament. However, these questions fade as the drive to fulfill Eshe's unspeakable goal consumed me. I didn't care why she was doing it, I just knew that it must be important enough to put up with all of this to obtain it and that was enough for me. Parts of me wish Sundered never ended, but I was satisfied with the conclusion which made me look back at the choices I made and wonder: if I did it again again, would I embrace or resist this power?
Sundered beautifully melds genres and thematic styles to create a hauntingly wonderful world filled with danger and madness.
I can't say enough good things about Sundered.
Sundered has not only become a role model for how to capture the metroidvania style with complete ease, but also wins the title of one of the best indies of the year.

Thunder Lotus Games' newest title has a lot to offer to Metroidvania fans.
Sundered proves that procedural generation and smart, hand-crafted level design are far from mutually exclusive.
Sundered is, undoubtedly, an indispensable game for lovers of the metroidvania genre. It deserves to be appreciated by all players who seek a good challenge. Its story, setting, art direction, soundtrack and gameplay are all factors that make all problems with its performance forgettable. It is one of the best games of its genre out there.

Sundered is a must-play action game (now available on Steam and for the PS4), combining astounding animation and rewarding combat. But you're going to die. A lot.
If you're looking for a Metroidvania-style slash-fest that won't make your eyes weary, you've gotta check out Sundered.
Sundered is an easy recommendation for anyone who enjoys Metroidvanias. It has all the stuff you'd want, including a focus on exploration and finding new abilities. But it's interesting takes on character progression, death, and level layouts come together to make Sundered feel like something new. And gorgeous 2D art and animations back up the smart design.
Sundered is an overall excellent entry into the Metroidvania genre and should be a strong consideration for fans of this style. The cycle of exploration devolving into button mashing (then death) could be frustrating for some, and stands as the largest blemish in the title. However, outstanding presentation and a compelling world highlight Thunder Lotus' vision. Memorable bosses and a narrative embedded in the deepest corners of the game create a very satisfying experience.
Sundered is a very fun and gorgeous game on PlayStation 4. It is not without faults since its loading times are long and the framerate stutters here and there, but the overall package is something you'll enjoy. There's more content on its way thanks to the DLC the team is working on, which will be free for those who backed the Kickstarter campaign, so I look forward to seeing what the team will be adding.
While some difficulty spikes make it frustrating, Sundered is a capable action metroidvania that deserves a look simply based on its incredible world. Lots of indie games try and create a bleak, desolate world that you need to sift through the ruins of, but Sundered creates surreal and often disturbing sights with real talent, and it’s a world you won’t soon forget
'Sundered' is an experience to behold, and it features a deep character build system, gorgeous hand drawn art and animations, and wonderfully hectic and fun combat.
Sundered ambitiously tackles procedural generation, random encounters, roguelike character progression, and emergent storytelling. The end result is a success.
Sundered, from Thunder Lotus Games, a Rogue Legacy meets Super Metroid experience that is well worth checking out.
Sundered is an enjoyable journey that iterates upon the Metroidvania style in ways that are both satisfying and substantial.
The indie space is full of roguelike Metroidvania titles, but no one pulls it off in the same style as Sundered. Beautiful hand-drawn animation, some cool environments, and great sound design combine to create a haunting, lonely tone for the game. It's definitely a combat-heavy game though, so if you prefer more exploration instead, this might not be for you. If you want a challenge though, pitting yourself against murderous waves of foes and giant bosses, Sundered is for you.
