Battlestar Galactica Deadlock Reviews
Battlestar Galactica: Deadlock pleasantly checks a lot of boxes: Sci-fi tactics and strategy; good controls; proper Battlestar Galactica game with attention to detail. That it does so with enjoyable and challenging gameplay makes it easy to overlook the less-than-stellar graphics and interface issues in the strategy layer.
Solid combat mechanics, but a little too light on content to justify full price.

Battlestar Galactica Deadlock is a competent, if somewhat unbalanced and painfully slow, tactical space combat sim. Unfortunately, it's not much of a Battlestar Galactica adaptation, as it totally lacks the series' personality, immediacy, and heart. Those obsessed with the nitty-gritty of BSG's space battles may want to give Deadlock a shot, but most fans will probably want to give this unrefined nugget a pass.
Despite an aggravating interface, this is one of the best space-strategy games I've played in a long time. The battles are epic, the story is engaging and thought provoking, space has never looked so good, and the music is top-tier. I hope Black Lab and Slitherine Studios produce more like it, as there are tons of franchises to choose from, perhaps Babylon 5 or The Orville. Battlestar fans will get their fill of Cylon battling action, and I'm sure will love to add this gem to their collection.
Unwieldy logistics may sometimes obscure its best facets, but Battlestar Galactica: Deadlock does justice to its namesake by giving us more of the awesome space battles and strange lore the television series is known for.
Compelling tactical fleet combat and a middling strategic campaign layer combine with some carefully applied Galactica aesthetics. That extra attention to detail earns Deadlock a little more than a hard six.
Battlestar Galactica: Deadlock is a massive treat for fans of the franchise, but even if this is your first exposure to the universe, it's well worth your money. It's a sufficiently deep, extremely fun and good looking turn based space strategy game with fantastic combat and a content-rich campaign.
Fans of space strategy games will find themselves enjoying Deadlock, but fans of both strategy and Battlestar Galactica will find themselves immersed in a universe crafted for true fans of the series.
Battlestar Galactica: Deadlock serves a particular niche; it's for people who are both strategy game fans and Battlestar Galactica fans. I don't know how many of us are out there, but I hope there's enough that the entire development team gets rewarded for the excellent work that they've done. Yes it's a budget game and a really authentic Battlestar Galactic experience really should also have solo flight and ground missions, but as a complement to the overall franchise, I couldn't ask for more. This game is brilliant.
Battlestar Galactica Deadlock finally gives us a solid game based on the popular franchise. It doesn't attempt anything new but some polish issues aside it's a solid strategy game that does a good job of translating the feel of the show.
Battlestar Galactica: Deadlock delivers a fantastic strategy game that provides hours of tactical combat and edge-of-your-seat encounters. That it is also a great representation of the Battlestar Galactica property is just an added, but very welcome, bonus.
Robert was a big fan of Battlestar Galactica: Deadlock on the PC and there's no much of a question as to why. Slitherine is a name that already boasts confidence and with them behind Black Lab Games, the first Cylon War in Battlestar's history was something to experience. Put in charge of a very formidable installation, welcome to a deadlocked situation which will often have you questioning if what you just did was actually a good decision.
Finally. It has finally happened. In the past three or four years there has been a massive outpouring of support from development studios large and small for space-based video games. From the absolute juggernaut that Elite: Dangerous has become to the much maligned (but still not horrible) X-Rebirth release to a smattering of stellar 4X titles (pun intended) like Endless Space 2 or Galactic Civilizations III; space games have recaptured the world and every year more and more excellent titles are released giving the fans of space games more than their share of bodacious titles to play. Battlestar Galactica: Deadlock, minus a few balancing issues that Black Lab Games has assured us are being cleared up, is an excellent licensed turn-based strategy game.
Even though its strategic layer lacks depth, Battlestar Galactica Deadlock makes up for it with its beautiful and increasingly complex tactical combat. A must for any Battlestar Galactica fan.
