Minecraft: Story Mode - Season Two, Episode Five Reviews
Minecraft: Story Mode Season Two - Episode 5: Above and Beyond reaches its epic conclusion as the great battle between Jesse and the evil Admin, Romeo, threatens to tear Beacontown apart. Featuring a shorter experience than previous episodes, this is also the most finely tuned one in terms of pacing, as the excitement ramps up from the opening credits right through to the eventual ending. While the decision-making in earlier episodes seems very watered down in retrospect, the final few choices mean that the next Minecraft season will need to answer plenty of questions, if Telltale does indeed go down that path.
Kudos to the Telltale Games team for making Minecraft Story Mode: Season 2 Episode 5: Above and Beyond easily the best overall episode in the season - possibly the entire series. The stakes are high, decisions matter and the action filled finale provides some satisfying closure to the story.
"Episode 5 - Above and Beyond" is an appropriate end to another good Telltale season.
The fifth episode of Minecraft Story Mode: Season Two was rushed. The conclusion to this season is not a satisfying one, and the script goes for more bombastic setpieces than cohesive storytelling.
Overall, if you’re reading this review, then you probably already have the previous installments. You might as well buy this one to complete the story. It is well worth it.
Great end to Season 2!
Above and Beyond isn't the best Minecraft Story Mode has to offer, but it's nevertheless an appropriately action-packed conclusion to a strong season.
This season ends with a cheesy episode, but it is entertaining during its last part and provides a closure to most of the story plots. Overall, the second season of Minecraft: Story Mode has brought a surprisingly good combat system and boss battles, however, the decisions made during the campaign had a minor relevance when compared to the first season.

Above and Beyond is a rather disappointing end to a rather lacklustre second season for Minecraft: Story Mode. The season's plot is forgettable, the pacing is slow throughout, and the same environments are used repeatedly. Although the final boss fight is enjoyable, the ending is surprisingly anticlimactic. Unless you were a huge fan of Jesse's first outing, you won't be missing much by skipping this season.
Everything was well wrapped up and fans of the series will get a satisfactory conclusion regardless of the final choices that come into play.
The season ends with an action-packed episode that neatly ties up the core themes running through the season. It is lacking in the humour of some of the previous episodes and the violence towards the end feels a little out of place.
While it spoils a potentially great antagonist it gives a solid conclusion of everything that transpired. Minecraft Story Mode: Season 2 Episode 5 Above and Beyond provides the player with a finish that encompasses their entire journey into one 70 minute adventure.

Minecraft: Story Mode Season 2 - Episode 5 doesn't stick the landing, but it also doesn't fall totally on its face. It's a suitable conclusion to the season, but if you haven't bought in yet, there's not much reason to now.
As a conclusion (possibly for good) to Minecraft: Story Mode Season Two - Episode 5 is still strong, never becoming close to a chore to play. It's just a shame that it ended up being one of the weaker points of the season.
Minecraft: Story Mode has been such an enjoyable adventure to go through from start to finish, and even if Telltale chooses to leave this story as it is, I'd say they've done a pretty good job at constructing a simple but meaningful story with a satisfying close at the end.
