Metal Gear Survive had the potential to grow into something unique but now it's just an uninspired mish-mash of poorly balanced systems that translates to an experience that feels like a chore. The story is frustrating, the only aspects that are great are the ones carried over from Metal Gear Solid 5 and the overall gameplay loop is monotonous. Metal Gear Survive ironically won't survive the test of time, though in several years' time you'll probably not be able to play it anyway.

It feels like Konami were always planning to release a zombie survival game, and used Kojima’s departure to slap the Metal Gear logo and assets on it to save time. If this is the case, then the decision does neither the game nor the Metal Gear franchise any favours. Metal Gear Survive is not a great Metal Gear game, but could have been a good original game by itself.

Metal Gear Survive tries to straddle the line between the action and survival genres and succeeds at neither. Die-hard Metal Gear fans may find something to like here, but most potential players are better off avoiding its many frustrations.

Despite the solid foundation laid by Metal Gear V: The Phantom Pain, Metal Gear Survive trips before crossing the finish line thanks to some questionable decisions with some of its mechanics and microtransactions. It's a shame as there are some good and fun things in here that could have given birth to an excellent survival game. In the end, however, Survive just can't seem to figure out exactly what kind of game it wants to be.

Metal Gear Survive is a good idea that finds itself crippled by an overwhelming mob of bad ideas. It's interesting but ultimately handicapped by a ruthless application of unnecessarily brutal constraints that serves to diminish what should have been a fascinating spin-off.

There are intimations of an interesting story in Metal Gear Survive, as well as a handful of creative moments within the FOX Engine. But overall, the game feels incredibly average, and seeing it through to the end quickly becomes a chore.

Metal Gear Survive is a brave move for Konami and a decent survival game – it's just not particularly fun. If you like the more abrasive side of the medium, give it a go. Everyone else should probably stay away…

Instead of a great cooperative action game we got a dull project about monotonous shooting at stupid enemies during base defense. What a sad finale of Metal Gear series.

"Metal Gear Survive" adds confusing, tedious busywork - and zombies - to the franchise.

Metal Gear Survive should have been a free-to-play game just like Grasshopper's Let it Die or an actual Metal Gear release. It doesn't accomplish either aim.

Not the Metal Gear fans will be used to in terms of either quality or action. But despite a few interesting highlights, it's just too boring to get very angry about.

Metal Gear Survive is alright. It strikes such an almost perfect balance between mind-numbing tedium and rage-tinted fun that if you're willing to let it take you, there's a very compelling experience under all the brown and grey textures - just don't expect it to do justice to the franchise under which it shuffles.

Metal Gear Survive's punishing systems drag down what could have been a good survival game

Though it's not totally devoid of positives, Metal Gear Survive suffers the curse of being wholly unremarkable in pretty much every way. Bland survival gameplay, unoriginal ideas and unresponsive melee combat make for a tedious experience. Metal Gear Survive is certainly a functional game, but someone forgot to add the "fun".

the best chance of survival that this game has, is by throwing it in as a PlayStation Plus/Games with Gold title later down the line.

Verdict Building off the foundation of Metal Gear Solid V, Metal Gear Survive had some potential that was mostly squandered, though still far from being an awful game. The co-op missions with friends can be fun and the game itself performs well enough, but the tedious structure of the game and the inclusion of awful microtransactions make Metal Gear Survive one you might want to think about skipping.

Metal Gear Survive rings hollow, a vapid facsimile of a once-great franchise undone by Konami's fixation with the almighty dollar.

if we ignore all this, the game contains a very good idea, yes it needs some final technical touches that might make it better but that never prevents it was enjoyable and offer you a different and new experience, all the mistakes we have encountered and the problems that we have encountered can be ignored and repaired through updates to balance enemies and consume resources and others, we've seen a lot of games that return from death and that change from its format after a period of release

Most of you have probably already made up your mind about Metal Gear Survive. I think Survive has some redeeming qualities and, had it focused firmly on its multiplayer, I may have enjoyed the experience more. As it stands, there are just so many better titles in the survival genre, it's hard to recommend this game to anybody. I'm sad to say that Metal Gear Survive has squeezed any ounce of hope I had for this series I only recently got into.
