The saga of the witch and the gentleman promises certain things that he has not just fulfilled. An Action RPG with little spark and personality that, unfortunately, without finishing.

This is not a game that is going to set the world alight, but it is very competent with plenty of good systems that will keep the player engaged. However, the story certainly won’t.

The Witch and the Hundred Knight 2 is a wonderful action JRPG game with an interesting story, charismatic characters and a great gameplay; and a game that has known how to improve its experience with respect to the previous title.

The more I played The Witch and the Hundred Knight 2 the more it was apparent how meticulously crafted its predecessor was. You can still find a few things that made the original so memorable, such as the innovative combat system, charming visuals, and bonkers storyline. But these aside, the rest feels like a stripped-down version. The once detailed levels with well-placed enemies are now just procedurally generated areas, the tense yet intriguing hunger system is now little more than an afterthought. The Witch and the Hundred Knight 2 is little more than a shell of its former self which is a shame since the series showed so much potential.

The Witch and the Hundred Knight 2 might scratch that action RPG itch for anyone desperately craving more from the genre, but casual fans might struggle to find much lasting power in NIS' latest endeavour. Poorly written, with a horrendous story to gameplay ratio, it's hard not to see Hundred Knight 2 as more visual novel/button masher than action RPG.

The Witch and the Hundred Knight 2 comes down to what is more important to you. As much as I enjoyed the story, it won’t appeal to everyone and takes a fair amount of time to get going. That being said, if story drive titles are your thing and you enjoy Disgaea or things of the like, odds are this will be up your alley. If you’re looking for a new action RPG or hoping for a deeper version of the original, odds are you’ll walk away disappointed. Not because the gameplay is awful, it is just very simple and doesn’t offer much besides story.

While The Witch and the Hundred Knight 2 improves upon its predecessor, it fails to evolve in any meaningful way, continuing to be plagued by poor story and lackluster gameplay. A solid purchase for fans of the original, but general action RPG fans should look elsewhere.

Nippon Ichi has clearly dedicated the bulk of the development resources this time around to providing a cleaner and more comprehensible system to draw players in further and minimise frustration. On that level, The Witch and the Hundred Knight 2 is a success. I just wish the storytellers on the team were able to really cut loose and pull hard at the strings that, currently, they're only tugging lightly at.

Not only did the uninspired (and downright boring) maps dull my senses, but the glacier pacing left me fighting the urge to take multiple breaks during my coverage. I hate to say it, but you should stay far away from this one - there is very little that is redeeming about The Witch and the Hundred Knight 2.

The Witch and the Hundred Knight 2 improves upon its predecessor, and should appeal to fans of the first game. The story may put some off given its plodding pace and numerous quirky side stories, but most people who are interested in this game likely enjoy exactly that kind of storytelling. New Tochkas and new active abilities for the Hundred Knight give more battle options to players, though the camera angle may create a few missed opportunities to finish a sweet combo or get a surprise attack on enemies. Additional graphics options are a welcome surprise, and ultimately summarize the general feeling of The Witch and the Hundred Knight 2 – improved where it counts.

There is a lot of returning stuff in this sequel but it also has some new things that will make fans of the prequel have even more fun with The Witch and the Hundred Knight 2. I loved the first one so I do miss Metallia, but Chelka is definitely a fun character to take on for this sequel. She's just as sassy and feisty as Metallia, but with some extra layers that make this new game feel very fresh. If you're in the mood for a new action RPG on PS4, then this is exactly what you need!

Like the previous chapter, we don't think that The Witch and The Hundred Knight 2 is a bad title, but it isn't an excellent one either, remaining sufficient. If you liked the previous game, you can easily enjoy the sequel, otherwise this won't make you change your mind.

The Witch and the Hundred Knight 2 is great for the fans of the original, but we can't really recommend this to newcomers due to its repetitive gameplay and subpar graphics.

With the combat mechanics and systems falling short at providing much-needed depth, WHK2 can only be tolerated in short bursts before becoming mind numbing. All too often I found myself wishing I was playing something else and if a game is making you feel that way, it's not a great sign.

Sequel to a quite good hack'n'slash game with dark jokes, now with another young and mouthy witch. Chelka is not Metallia, but she swears just as much. Unfortunately, it's a game for a small audience with very specific kind of humor.

The Witch and the Hundred Knight 2 has interesting characters and conversations and a few unique gameplay elements that differentiate it from other JRPG titles, but with dull maps and repetitive battles, exploration will make players yawn.

Some daring swings at humor and story beats that lend themselves to mocking elevate the package, but not by enough. Nippon Ichi consistently does better work and it's best to appreciate those instead of prodding this bloated thing.

The Witch and the Hundred Knight 2 isn’t the most exciting of action-RPGs you’re going to play, but it at least offers competency in all aspects of its gameplay. You won’t do anything out of the ordinary or that you wouldn’t have done before, but you also won’t be bored when you’re ploughing through the many dungeons. Fans of the first game or RPG fanatics will probably have some fun with it, but unfortunately there are too many better action-RPGs available right now to consider The Witch and the Hundred Knight 2 a must own title.

The combat is fun and encourages the player to experiment with the mechanics but it is held back by a disappointing story and repetitive exploration. As a sequel, the game feels like an improvement overall but still suffers from noticeable flaws.

It's true that The Witch and the Hundred Knight 2 features some undeniably addictive combat and character growth mechanics but the general tedium of its campaign makes it a tough action RPG to widely recommend.
