All in all, Onimusha HD is a wonderful return to the first entry in a long and well-loved series. It wouldn’t be a bad thing if Capcom continues to overhaul these PS2 and GameCube era classics.

Onimusha: Warlords is a classic of the genre, which remains relevant even after almost two decades after the original release. Sadly, Capcom didn't bother to create a remake on the same level as Resident Evil 2, but the game is still good anyway. We recommend you to play it on the Switch in a portable mode.

Onimusha Warlords is a pretty decent remastering, solving bugs and decisions that didn't sit too well in its day. The new type of control makes the game a little less uphill and with the new resolution it looks pretty good but without the bragging. The new OST is more than decent and has nothing to envy from the old one. If you've never played this saga or want to reminisce about the classic, this is a great opportunity.

Overall the game, albeit a short one, provides a great experience that culminates into a strong title.

A nostalgic-fuelled, absolute blast.

Onimusha Warlords is a 18-year-old classic game which despite of being too outdated, is still enjoyable and can leave some unforgettable moments in players' memories. In other words, it still can engage gamers in its dark bloody world! In spite of the fact that Capcom didn't do much in order to modernize Onimusha Warlords, we recommend playing this game to both Onimusha fans and the newcomers.

While the game feels truly dated, for those of you who don’t mind playing classic PS2 games then Onimusha: Warlords is something that you might want to check out, but for those of you who’ve already played and especially beaten this game long ago then I would suggest spending your time playing games of this generation.

Thanks to a clunky camera and a very dated system this remake of Onimusha doesn't hold up. It's even apparent in the unskippable cutscenes. The atmosphere is great, but that's about it.

The game does not offer additional new content as it is the same game that was released in 2001 but with improved graphics and control.

Onimusha Warlord may not be the most ambitious survival horror ever made, but its action-based gameplay and combat system, while simple, are enough to capture the player's interest. Thanks to its interesting environment and puzzles, this is a game that becomes enjoyable and entertaining quickly enough, even if its length could certainly be longer.

Beyond those changes, this is still the same game as the PS2 original, and much of the gameplay still holds up, minus some cheap one-hit death puzzles that prove extra frustrating since they occur during some unskippable cutscenes. While the experimental combination of Survival Horror and Capcom-style Action proved more successful with its sequels, Onimusha: Warlords is still an entertaining prototype that is worth a revisit for fans and a first look for newcomers.

Onimusha isn’t a 2019 classic, but it has earned its place as a 2001 classic that’s still more than worth playing today if you’re in the market for good games from bygone eras.

Despite Onimusha: Warlords’ individual elements looking good in isolation, the game amounts to less than the sum of its parts. Its systems aren’t inherently poorly designed, but they fail because they’re given no time to develop and are rendered arbitrary because the game lasts only a few brief hours. If, however, you can brush these concerns aside, as I imagine long-term fans of the series will do, there’s certainly some nostalgic value to be had here. The world and inhabitants of Onimusha: Warlords are as charming as they were on the PS2, and those who grew up on the game will surely enjoy revisiting Inabayama Castle after so many years. The one hope to hold on to is that this sells well enough to warrant a remaster of the significantly improved (and longer) Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny.

Onimusha: Warlords has aged poorly, and this remaster does not add anything new to the table. Not recommended

This is actually a decent HD remaster. For a game that I played a ton of when I was 15, it was still fun to go back to with a new set of eyes and experiences under my belt.

Onimusha: Warlords comes to 2019 exactly how it was in 2001, and that might not be your cup of tea.

Few are the mainstream games that embrace this universe so rich and mysterious in equal proportion. It's worth giving a chance to this longing title and ensure some good hours of fun and also even train your English given the lack of translation.

Onimusha: Warlords for Nintendo Switch is a delight. It looks and plays well, it’s fun, and the in-game achievement system – aptly named Honors – motivates the player to replay the game several times. On average, most will be able to complete the game in around four hours. Despite the short duration, the journey is a quality one and something you’ll want to replay.
