DX is an absolutely worthy pick-up for any Poké-fanatic out there, whether it’s your first time venturing through a mystery dungeon or another trip down memory lane.

You are of of them so this is different game experience. But not bad at all.

Rescue Team DX's charming story and beautiful visuals aren't good enough to carry the whole game by themselves, especially since the meat and potatoes here – the combat and dungeon crawling – are so repetitive and monotonous.

As a remake, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon DX succeeds in recapturing the essence of the originals. I still felt a sense of urgency and stress when I was on the final floors of the Sky Tower trying to get to Rayquaza.

If this is able to re-establish the series with its new visual style on the Nintendo Switch, then I’d like where the series can go from here, with a modernised take on the formula.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX’s gameplay is tedious and bland. Its repetitive nature shows itself off very early on and doesn’t as the game goes on. A visually appealing Pokémon title held back by its lack of variety, the unique storytelling and visuals aren’t enough to take away from the failings of Rescue Team DX.

Complex mechanics wrapped in a overly-childish shell leaves the latest entry in the Pokemon series feeling like a missed opportunity with no clear target audience. From it's dire gameplay, to its tedious mechanics and terrible story, there's little to love here. This unfortunately is one you definitely do not want to catch...

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX squanders its charming premise with repetitive gameplay.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX tells a good Pokemon story from a unique angle and with visuals that help enhance the storybook feel. However, gameplay that might have held up in 2005 has not aged well.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX is exactly what you expect it to be: it's a fun dungeon crawler with a cute art style, all your favourite Pokémon and an overarching message of love and friendship that is generally best suited to younger players.

A good remake of a decent game. Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX will be loved by those who played the original. Sadly it lacks the depth or challenge needed to be interesting to a wider gaming audience.

Despite its comparative lack of character development and its sometimes oversimplification of gameplay, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team DX is a charming and wonderful remake of the first title in the series. I think Nintendo was smart to go with this fairly simplistic version of the game as a way to bring in new mystery dungeon players. My hope is that this game was an experiment to test the waters of people’s interest. I believe a new mystery dungeon including gens 7 and 8 may be in the works. And if not, well, at least we know Nintendo hasn’t completely forgotten about this best-selling spin off franchise.

Unlike the complex name it was lumbered with, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX is a basic grind through an aging world.

Under normal circumstances, it would be hard to recommend a game like Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team GX to anyone who doesn't have a lot of time to kill. After all, the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon series was the perfect sort of game to help kids pass 30 minutes on a school bus. But, these aren't normal times and a lot of people have recently found themselves stuck indoors with a bunch of extra time on their hands. If you've burned out on Pokemon Sword and Shield and are looking for a not-too-challenging experience to help get through self-isolation and social distancing, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team GX might be the sort of game you need. It plays on nostalgia of the past and the general adorableness of the Pokemon franchise, and it's not the worst way to spend a boring afternoon.

Die-hard Pokemon fans won’t have too hard of a time deciding whether to purchase this game, but for everyone else, there is currently a demo on the eShop in which progress carries over.

Even if this is not the best Pokémon spin-off, Mystery Dungeon feels a little repetitive but also takes advantage of the Switch portability so playing it on short bursts makes it a better experience

To those who never played any of the series, this is the perfect time to dive in. If you can forgive needing to turn bosses into doormats, and failing to hire the odd Pokemon, you’ll probably find the greatest challenge the franchise has offered yet.
