If you're into this brand of weird, wordless narrative adventures, it could be worth wiring up to 7th Sector.

As puzzle games go this one is one of my favorites purely for the fact, they were able to bring together a good soundtrack and visual elements that satisfy my inner gamer while also providing me puzzles and challenges that bring out my inner genius survivor.

7th Sector is around 3 hours of not so fun experience; one that made lots of mistakes in designing puzzles, levels, and its narrative.

As far as atmospheric 2D puzzle-solving adventure games go, 7th Sector offers a mostly middle-of-the-road experience.

Maybe I'm just a bit of a sucker for games where their core premise deviates from the norm of their genre but I enjoy an experience that doesn't feel like it's all on well-trodden ground...

7th Sector is masterly crafted game. It fiddles around some well known transhumanistic themes but it looks at them from quite original perspective. Breathtaking visuals are inspired by socialistic structures and Russian brutalist architecture placed in dystopic future. The game gives player several hours full of mathematic, geometric and physical based puzzles some of which aren't properlly balanced. However it's great game suitable for every player, that likes this videogame genre.

7th Sector is an indie that follows in the footsteps of highly appreciated titles like Limbo and Inside, but it does so with its own distinctive identity. The dystopian cyberpunk setting is excellent, the game structure, based on solving puzzles, is pleasant and always tantalizing because it knows how to change at the right time so as not to become stale. Puzzles manage to reach rewarding difficulty levels. The only drawback we find is the controls that have made us crazy more than once.

In 2020 traditional puzzle games aren’t exactly flying off of the shelves. I’ve spoken about issues with contemporary puzzle games before and I want to preface by saying that 7th Sector is exciting because it is pushing boundaries. It is difficult, it is atmospheric, and it tries to aim high. if you’re a fan of puzzle games with a world that isn’t merely superficial, and a decent story to match, playing through the brain demanding world of 7th Sector is, ironically, a no-brainer.

7th Sector is a headscratcher that’s designed for those that love to be stumped and don’t mind a little trial and error. It’s set in a game world that has a rich narrative and depth despite not really having either of these in a literal sense. There’s far to many sectors of 7th Sector which are simple too complex for their own good or actually work to the detriment of the overall product (I’m looking at you Combat section) though. When this game is good, it’s really good, but it’s just too infrequent. If you enjoyed Limbo or Inside and you’re itching for something similar, give this a go.

7th Sector now comes to consoles after having collected a fairly positive review on its PC version. A narrative adventure with a breakthrough based on the resolution of a wide variety of puzzles in environments of clear cyberpunk atmosphere. The story and the way of telling it is interesting, but a somewhat rough control, the total lack of explanations when facing the puzzles and some illogical resolutions make the work of Sergey Noskov luster.

You’ll meet it with a little resistance but will soon feel surges of joy. However, your enjoyment may short circuit when you blow a fuse because of this titles shortcomings. Also, be wary of the price as there is a danger of being overcharged.

For the most part, 7th Sector breaks down into a decent first half where you play as a ghost traveling almost entirely along wires as a shining point of energy, bridging gaps and powering machinery through puzzle-solving in order to progress, and a second half that sees you possessing various types of robots and fighting through some ill-advised action sequences. There’s a complete and utter refusal to explain what the puzzles are asking of you that can be refreshing at first—if only because so many games hold your hand—but this charm wears off as a direct result of the finicky action sequences.
