To summarise, I mostly enjoyed Fairy Tail however some of the issues were impossible to ignore and often took me out of the game. The best thing I can say is that it is a competent and at times exciting JRPG. I would recommend it to someone who loves the anime and wants to get into this genre. You might want to wait for a sale though as the game is quite expensive.

Fairy Tail is a rushed spinoff that rarely has an ounce of the energy shown in its source material. It's more ambitious than many other anime games, but the execution is severely lacking. So much so that, if Fairy Tail was just another cookie-cutter arena fighter instead, it probably would have been a better game.

When it comes to anime games, FAIRY TAIL soars above most and delivers a mostly faithful tale of fun and friendship.

Whether or not you mind redundancy, you might find it to be a minor irritation. Regardless, Fairy Tail is an absolutely solid title. It’s one that stands equally among previous Gust and Koei Tecmo turn-based JRPGs. With smooth graphics, solid voice acting, and a true-to-source story, Fairy Tail will keep you busy and wanting to visit your friends at the guildhall.

While coming in at the end of the 11th story arc of the show might feel like an odd starting point, the game does a good job with a quick introduction of the characters. While it may leave some questions if you are unfamiliar with the series, it still gives enough information for newcomers to enjoy; Fairy Tale enthusiasts will certainly have no trouble knowing what is going on. Fairy Tale is certainly a solid game on the Nintendo Switch.

I don’t think I can recommend this adaptation of Fairy Tail. For people that aren’t fans of Fairy Tail, there’s not much here other than a mostly competent RPG. For people that are fans, there’s just heavily truncated and compromised versions of the things they like. There’s some fun character interactions in the side quests, but I don’t think it justifies a $60 price tag. It’s a fairly lengthy game at around 40 hours, but most of this time is spent just being disappointed. If you’re a real diehard fan, and you just have to play this, then I’d at least recommend waiting for the price to drop.

Although minor things like no English voiceover work set back the overall quality, I still find Fairy Tail to be a step above most other anime-based games.

Fairy Tail is a straightforward game that does enough to keep it interesting throughout.

Fairy Tail is a strong attempt to bring this licensed IP to the consoles. It manages to succeed with its RPG elements although the story does suffer from the transition to a different medium.

A fun dive into the world of Fiore covering most arcs after the time skip. Enjoyable and interesting turn-based combat with plenty of side quests and collectibles to keep you invested through the story. Fans of the franchise should check out this game even if the combat seems like a turn off.

The experience of playing Fairy Tail is very good if you know the original work. The game captures the essence of anime very well and makes you feel that universe with the presence of voices, music, artistic style and writing make the source material shine in this new media.

As enjoyable as this game was for an outsider like me, there’s no denying Fairy Tail‘s true nature as a game aimed at its pre-installed fanbase. It’s the kind of game that you excitedly dive into because you’ve been a fan of the series for so long and want to experience its story like never before. Playing it with the mindset that it’s “just another JRPG” might leave you wanting more at the end of it all, but I know for a fact that, had I already been familiar with Fairy Tail, I would have eaten everything up faster than Natsu himself.

Fairy Tail manages to be little more than a mediocre JRPG. While definitely worth serious consideration for fans of the series, it is an irrelevant release for everyone else.

If you are a fan of the series, then Fairy Tail is a must-have title. If not, it has many notable qualities for all players: beautiful graphics, fun and interesting story, good fighting mechanics, great soundtrack and a charming atmosphere. Although there are few points that could be better developed, the game is still a good choice for your library.

FAIRY TAIL is a good experience as long as you are a fan of the anime series. It offers an interesting combat system and enough challenges to keeps those who are already in love with the anime engaged, but if you approach it as a typical RPG player you'll probably have a hard time finding a connection, as it is less deep and complicated than your average RPG game.

Other than the aforementioned issues, I believe Fairy Tail is a JRPG title that's incredibly accurate to its source material, and while the game is more tailored to fans of the series, it still offers a level of enjoyment most anime-based games do not.

Fairy Tail is a good first video game entry if you’re already a fan of the series but it’s flaws hold it back from being a great one. I’d be keen to see what GUST Studios decide to do if given the opportunity of working on a follow up game. Fingers crossed things are taken back to the very beginning, opening the doors to the franchise for everyone and hopefully driving new audiences of people to check out this great series.

Porting FAIRY TAIL to JRPG format is not a bad idea. Both the guild system and the characters themselves lend themselves to it, which, spiced up with a good battle system -like the one the game offers- could have ended up offering the fan a great game. Unfortunately, whether it's due to budget problems or anything else, the game feels half-hearted, with tons of unmodeled characters and extremely repetitive enemies and missions. A failed opportunity that, even so, entertains the 15 hours it lasts.

After playing Fairy Tail for a handful of hours, you'll look at your accumulated time and wonder what else you could have done with it. For example, you could have been playing something much more enjoyable, I can guarantee that much.
