Save Your Nuts has its heart in the right place. While all the ingredients are here for a fun multiplayer game it just feels like it needs more polish. The game doesn’t quite feel like the simple pick up and play experience it should be. Maybe with some future patches Save Your Nuts could rise above these niggles. In its current stage it’s a fun messy party game, suitable for all the family.
A true throwback to the point-and-click adventures of days past, Black Rainbow takes a good story and decent controls, slaps some sub-par graphics and neutral sound on top, and still comes out as a quite enjoyable game. It took me around 4-5 hours to complete, and while £9 isn’t that expensive it feels a bit much for a lacklustre port. The Switch is capable of so much better, and it’s games should be too.
Are you a cat lover, or a dog lover? Well we might just have the purrfect game for you. This game is no dog’s dinner, in fact its quite ameowzing. Not ruff around the edges at all. Ok now that I’ve got all those puns out the way (not sure I believe that one, I’m sure they’ll be some paw) it’s time to talk about the game. The first Cat Quest is an action RPG where you play a cat across a large open map to complete multiple side quests, sort out the big bad, and save the day of course. Cat Quest II does all that but also adds a dog, and most importantly lets you play co op
I like the clean look of Mekorama, there is only the puzzle on screen so there are no distractions for the player and they can just concentrate on completing the puzzle. The physics engine ensures everything moves realistically, such as platforms, and balls. Robot B himself is interesting to watch as he waddles from block to block, arms swaying and his large head swivelling as he moves. His movement is very lifelike and how you would imagine a tubby robot to walk.
TRDS is a fun game to mess around with but that fun for me didn’t last long. I can see this title being a lot of fun with families that just want to mess around in a large open world and create their own amusement with the tools provided. I think if you’re a dedicated gamer who likes the idea of tough controls, hard to control vehicles and delivering packages, this might be for you as well.
Langrisser is a series that has had very few entries released outside of Japan. This remake of both Langrisser I and II is the first time the sequel has officially released in English. I played both and combined them in one review. My conclusion is that Langrisser II is so much more of an improvement over the first game I wonder why they didn’t implement more changes to I in this remake. I feel like they could have cut it out and focused on giving the sequel a better look. Still, if you’re interested in some unique SRPG combat and diverging story paths this package is a decent deal.
Hayfever is a charming technical platformer which tells the story of Thomas the Allergic Mailman as he gathers the scattered letters which he lost across lands and seasons due to one unfortunate sneeze. Hayfever is a bold balance of two types of platformers. In a post-Braid, post-FEZ, post-Limbo, post-Celeste world of gaming I honestly cannot remember the last time I played a platfomer which made me want to take my time DESPITE not having a story. It’s the kind of game that gets by on guts and asks you to get by on guts as well.
I found it quite difficult. This was due to the fact I couldn’t understand some of the logic behind why this triggers that, or that triggers this. I thoroughly have enjoyed the time I have spent on this game and I will definitely be continuing until I finish it! And then, perhaps, play again and see what I missed or could do differently this time!
Card Game Bundle Vol. 1 was a wonderful surprise for me. If you’re new to card based video games this is an excellent bundle to get you started. Frost is very brutal and sad whereas Monster Slayers is brutal but hilarious. You get quite the nice contrast of styles. I love how both titles are very pick up and play and are incredibly re-playable. They are also ideal to play between other games or if you just need something to return to for a quick fix. I never thought in my writing days I would give a top score to a game titled Card Game Bundle Vol.1 but here we are.
In the world of puzzle games, the picross/nonogram is as classic as a Sudoku or a Kakuro. The basic premise is always the same; you have a grid, with numbers assigned to each row and column that designate how many squares are filled in. Once you’ve completed the puzzle you end up with a pretty picture. The classic simplicity makes it easy to develop a nonogram game, but hard to do it in a way that impresses.
The game isn’t long, and can be completed in a few hours. Overall, I would say that it’s a fun little experience with a great approach to art and atmosphere. The price (about 19 dollars) is a bit high, so I would advise waiting for a sale. If you want something short, distinctive, and eccentric, give it a try.

La Mulana took me back to the micro computer days in just the right way that I didn’t want to completely quit on it. The fact that I preserved through it must mean I had fun, right? Once this game sunk its teeth into me I was utterly hooked. Yes, I got mad, frustrated but I kept getting called back. That won’t be the same for everyone but to me it means I liked it, a lot.
This Kickstarter project hit Steam in January 2020, then swiftly made its way onto my favourite gaming device. I wasn’t even 10 minutes in and I was already in love with this quirky little adventure platformer. I was zooming about like a madwoman delivering fridges and demolishing castles, laughing like a loon the entire time and completely ignorant of my partner warily edging further away. It was a genuine pleasure to play, and I’m looking forward to introducing my best friend to it next time we’ve had a few drinks.
Initially I was warmed by the retro inspired pixel graphics and music. Dandara dares to be different and it just works. Crazy difficulty spikes made the later areas of the game quite frustrating. Regardless, I can’t deny I still had a lot of fun and the game made me look up some history which is good in my books. As I returned to replay the game I thought about the real Dandara and her struggle to fight against an incredibly difficult cause for the time. While the fight against slavery doesn’t compare to the the struggle of finishing a video game. I spent around two hours fighting the final boss before I succeeded. The lesson I guess I picked up from this is never give up no matter what. You can make it through.
Wenjia is a game I would describe as a Sunday afternoon game. It’s a short experience that’s casual and relaxing. Ideal to enjoy while chilling on the sofa or equivalent comfy chair with a nice drink. So take it easy and lets see what Wenjia has to offer. I also noticed this is the second game where you play as a cat I have reviewed for this site but don’t worry, no cat puns this time.
If you have read this review up until this point it should not come as a surprise that I really like this game. Hidden Through Time is a delightful engrossing and cute little game. For anyone with a young family to entertain, Hidden Through Time would be a fantastic opportunity for some quality family time in front of the TV and the Nintendo Switch.
This was one of the slower visual novel games I’ve ever played, but that’s not necessarily always a bad thing. It has an interesting, reflective story that I found enjoyable and I found I could play it before bed without getting too hyped up to sleep. But on the other hand, it wasn’t a story I was excited to pick up every day and never felt really compelled to learn more about the characters.
Despite its comparative lack of character development and its sometimes oversimplification of gameplay, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team DX is a charming and wonderful remake of the first title in the series. I think Nintendo was smart to go with this fairly simplistic version of the game as a way to bring in new mystery dungeon players. My hope is that this game was an experiment to test the waters of people’s interest. I believe a new mystery dungeon including gens 7 and 8 may be in the works. And if not, well, at least we know Nintendo hasn’t completely forgotten about this best-selling spin off franchise.
Kingdom Rush Frontiers is a classic Tower Defence game, that has been ported to the Nintendo Switch with all its charm, fun, enjoyable and frantic gameplay intact. If you were to buy Kingdom Rush Frontiers on mobile, all of the premium content such as the additional Heroes would be locked behind a paywall. That would be far more expensive in the long run than buying the full game on the Nintendo Switch.
