GameBlast's Reviews

Bringing back We Love Katamari REROLL + Royal Reverie is a great decision, as well as a very safe one. If the original version was already excellent, the visual and practical improvements are welcome, but there was certainly room to take more effective advantage of the content expansion. In addition, both this port and its predecessor show that it is high time for the royal family of Todo o Cosmos to return in an new title, taking advantage of the full potential of the current generation of consoles.

8 / 10.0 - Tamayura Mirai
Jun 15, 2023

Tamayura Mirai offers a good experience that mixes slice-of-life with a curious, enticing supernatural plot. Though some details could have been fleshed out, it's an easy recommendation for people interested in relaxing experiences that still offer a noteworthy lore.

Etrian Odyssey Origins Collection is a competent collection that brings back three great dungeon crawlers. Intricate labyrinths ,a myriad dangers, a highly strategic battle system, steep difficulty, and an elaborate atmosphere make adventures challenging, engaging, and rewarding. The remasters themselves are pretty straightforward, with the biggest highlights being the reworked visuals and music, balance tweaks, and tweaking the cartography mechanics. Otherwise, Etrian Odyssey Origins Collection is recommended for those who enjoy long and complex adventures.

10 / 10.0 - Street Fighter 6
Jun 13, 2023

Street Fighter 6 came to be a definite turning point not just for the series, but for fighting games in general. Both the experience for those who want to enjoy it alone and for those who want to spend hours in network disputes leaves absolutely nothing to be desired, and that makes SF return to the level of excellence in the genre that it should never have failed to present.

8 / 10.0 - Bread & Fred
Jun 13, 2023

Bread & Fred is an excellent option for those who like to play with someone at their side. The penguins' adventure is full of charisma, tension and frustration but it offers some hours of fun and arguing among players. The title also adapts itself to diverse situations, having a singleplayer mode and accessibility options that make it more pleasant to casual players.

7.5 / 10.0 - Dordogne
Jun 13, 2023

Despite being essentially an interactive narrative experience, I feel Dordogne had to embrace the game format to meet its goal of having us inhabit the countryside region, [feeling] the childhood nostalgia, the characters and their relationships. A movie, comic book or some other visual art medium would not represent Mimi walking through an expressive watercolor [environment] made up of colors, lights and memories in such an immersive manner, even if the gameplay interactions here are shallow.

7.5 / 10.0 - Nocturnal
Jun 12, 2023

The constant and dynamic use of fire gives Nocturnal a very satisfying identity. The elegant visuals and the melancholic atmosphere are captivating in their own right, but they don't hold the player's interest when falling into repetition. It doesn't take long to reach the end of the game, which is a shame because what it offers us is well done and leaves very clear the potential to take the world, the combat and the mechanics to further developments, with the certainty that the studio would be capable of good additions. Thus, the title closes its beautifully and competently outlined cycle, albeit more concisely and humbly than it should be.

10 / 10.0 - Impostor Factory
Jun 10, 2023

Kan Gao, along with his team at Freebird Games, get it right again and deliver an indescribable experience with Impostor Factory. With three main games and a spin-off (A Bird Story), this is one of the few series that hasn't gotten it wrong and that keeps my enthusiasm high for what may yet lie ahead.

While the transition to 3D has brought some technical woes, Spark the Electric Jester 2 is one of the few examples of indie games with this high-speed three-dimensional platforming bent. Making this type of game is a huge challenge, after all, even Sonic Team went through difficulties in some hedgehog titles. Feperd Games took a step beyond the technical capacity to do so, but the potential created is quite evident here — and the third game, also already released, corrects many of these rough edges.

In the end, the System Shock remake is exactly what you'd expect from a title of this caliber. The original is a true milestone in the gaming industry, and here it's been recreated just right. This means that the player immediately realizes that they are holding something important and unique, but at the same time they don't feel trapped by a simplistic historical record approach. There's a real freshness that makes this recreation live up to its many contemporary spiritual successors like BioShock or Dead Space.

7 / 10.0 - Bleak Sword DX
Jun 8, 2023

Bleak Sword XD is a tense and unusual journey of action. The focus is on complicated combats through compact arenas full of dangers and enemies in which any mistake is fatal. The clashes are intense and difficult, requiring precision and observation to survive, and the fun is precisely in mastering all the nuances to overcome adversity. The intention is clear in offering a campaign of heightened difficulty, but some choices leave things frustrating, such as lack of visual clarity, unbalanced challenge and limited variety of situations. At the very least, there's plenty of content to explore and the striking setting has its charm. Those who like to overcome tribulations will enjoy the brutal world of Bleak Sword XD, just be prepared to face its rough edges and frustrations as well.

Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun isn't here to tell a story, but to offer chaotic fun, something it does very well. The game's straightforward nature isn't an issue and makes it an ideal title for players missing the FPS classics, or rather, the Boomer Shooters.

7 / 10.0 - Mask of the Rose
Jun 8, 2023

Mask of the Rose is a visual novel with a plot that plays with an over-the-top supernatural situation in a well-developed context of a Victorian society. Trying to offer a lot of freedom to the player action but respecting a somewhat restrictive plot core, the work has good and bad points to it but it's a good choice for those who love interactive narratives.

8.5 / 10.0 - Tiny Thor
Jun 6, 2023

Tiny Thor offers a compelling platform experience with a combination of unique challenges and mechanics, nostalgia-inducing visuals, and an immersive soundtrack. An easy recommendation for those who want to relive the vibe of games that we can only put down after reaching the commendable 100% mark.

7.5 / 10.0 - Protodroid DeLTA
Jun 5, 2023

Protodroid DeLTA don't try to hide that it's based entirely on Mega Man, but that doesn't mean it's lazy. The good sequences of challenges make it ideal for those who missed the genre.

Unfortunately, the new Nippon Ichi Software game showcases the basic [aspects] of what tactical RPGs can offer and limits itself to that, not introducing any aspect that makes it memorable. The exploration of soulless scenery isn't a positive highlight either, turning the repetition into something much more frustrating than appealing.

Raiden III x MIKADO MANIAX invested in an interesting point, revitalizing the soundtrack. They certainly gave the title a fresh air, but some visual upgrades, especially in the screen positioning and filters would also have come in handy. Even so it doesn't stop being a relevant classic for fans of the genre.

7.5 / 10.0 - Miasma Chronicles
Jun 1, 2023

Miasma Chronicles is a great choice for anyone who loves good tactical combat combined with an original and promising world building. It's clear that it's just the first chapter of The Bearded Ladies' new IP. The company has in its hands what could become its main franchise. Despite stumbling in its narrative construction, the plot highlights are captivating and the characters tend to improve over time. Everything else is already dominated by the developer: good combat and an exquisite art direction.

8 / 10.0 - Nightmare Reaper
Jun 1, 2023

Keeping very close to the classics of the genre, enriched with modern elements, Nightmare Reaper is a great FPS game, especially for Doom fans and co. The shootings are always fun and with a balanced difficulty, enhanced by a very rich arsenal. Some elements aren't very good, but it's still a nice addition to your library.
