The upside to all this is, DICE can continually push out patches in order to stomp out bugs, add in features, and so on. This is a live service game, so expect more content to be doled out as the game’s lifecyle continues. However, will players still be there when the game finally realizes its potential? We can’t say for certain. As it is right now, one can’t help but feel disappointed at BF2042. It should have beent he big one that made people forget about the sour taste BFV left in everyone’s mouth. But sadly, BF2042 seems to show that DICE has not learned from their past mistakes, and have even created new ones that shouldn’t have been issues at all.

When it comes to Battlefield I like to call myself a veteran of the series. My love of large scale combat started off back in 2002 with Battlefield 2 and has grown ever since. I like to say that I’ve seen it all. From the highs of Battlefield: Vietnam, to the lows of Battlefield: Hardline, I’ve been there and – for Battlefield 3 – gotten the t-shirt (RIP Gamestation).

With some patches and tweaks, this could be a strong shooter experience, but it has fundamental issues that will not be fixed so easily. Let’s see if DICE gets the support to do so; otherwise, this entry will simply be another casualty for a franchise in desperate need of a win.

Battlefield 2042 presented the past in the best possible way in the outstanding Portal mode, but it did not succeed in anything else, as it was suffering from many technical problems and suffered from great chaos in the play style.

The bugs and imperfections are too much incident on the gameplay. The spectacular graphics and interactive maps fail to balance the shortcomings.

Battlefield 2042 is trying to be a distillation of what the first-person shooter genre has become in recent times, while also not committing to any single vision, let alone one that Battlefield can claim ownership of.

There is hope in me to resolve these issues to have a Battlefield 2042 of excellence, but it may be too late for those who do not have the patience to wait for better days.

Battlefield 2042 is a game you need to have a squad alongside you to properly enjoy. It's just a shame many have been turned off from the game before it becomes the exciting simulation I know it can be. A lot of my friends have given up on it, but I don't want to just yet.

"With time, Battlefield 2042 has turned into one of the best shooters the series has to offer despite a few drawbacks that still remain such as a lack of bullet drop, a campaign mode, or even Rush being a default mode for fans. However, what it does to make up for its shortcomings is alleviated by the offerings that the Portals mode has to offer, making Battlefield 2042 one of the strongest titles in the franchise, and quite possibly: One of the longest lasting and a must have for next-gen console owners."

See Battlefield 2042 does alright at most of what it strives to do. Today however, a multiplayer only game, coming from a huge publisher, with AAA budget and pricing, it’s just not enough. We have seen it in Far Cry 6, we have seen it with Call Of Duty Vanguard. Just maintaining the status quo isn’t enough any longer.

Battlefield 2042 absolutely should have been pushed back by EA and DICE to some point in 2022. Instead, the version of this game that is currently available has been virtually unplayable for me at times since first releasing. Even beyond this, though, some of the key design changes that DICE has made in Battlefield 2042 don't feel for the better. Rather than improving on the core Battlefield experience that fans loved with Battlefield 3, 4, or Bad Company 2, 2042 is a bloated husk of its former self that is trying to recapture some semblance of its previous glory. As a fan that has been playing this series for well over a decade, Battlefield 2042 is a massive disappointment that I struggle to think is even worth saving.

Approximately one year after its release, Battlefield 2042 is no longer the BETA that was presented to us in the initial product, and is now starting to gain more solidity and competitiveness in the fps market, even if it is a few notches below its predecessors.

In order to survive in the hotly contested multiplayer shark tank in the long term, DICE now has to optimize and expand the core pillars of "Battlefield 2042" step by step, eliminate bugs, further increase performance and server stability, and set a higher pace than was the case with "Battlefield V". If this succeeds, "Battlefield 2042" has a rosy future ahead of it. If, on the other hand, DICE loses sight of the concerns of the community, the tide could turn in a completely different direction.

Battlefield's USP has always been its large-scale battles, and 2042 delivers these bigger than ever before. After some serious teething problems it's now in a much better place. The (slightly) futuristic arsenal is punchy, there are many more gadgets than we're used to, and its vehicles will always be a great test of teamwork and patience. It does feel a little sparse at present but much more is promised, and based on the support given to previous entries in the series, its future is in safe hands.

Battlefield 2042 has a very solid foundation, but the game needs a few decent patches that will not only expand the content (weapons, gadgets), but also take care of removing bugs – the latter can now have a very negative impact on the experience.

With exaggeratedly huge maps dominated by boredom and randomness, the absence of key features such as voice chat and server browser, and the sudden abandonment of the story phase without providing enough content to make such a move. At the same time, the game provides the real-life atmosphere that the series has long been known for, and portal is the most commendable addition as it opens the door to huge future content with the participation of the players themselves.

Battlefield 2042 is a bit of a mixed bag as things stand right now with the excellent Portal mode overshadowing almost everything else on offer. The futuristic large-scale battles are spectacular stuff, for sure, but it's all a little disjointed so far with the all-new Specialists underlining a feeling that solo soldiering has somehow taken precedent over the series' signature teamwork. There's still plenty to enjoy in this meaty package for early adopters, and we've no doubt DICE will be busy improving things as the months roll on but, outside of a mode that celebrates the series' history more than it embraces what's new in this latest entry, what's here struggles to feel absolutely essential at launch.

Battlefield 2042 wants so many things that it succeeds at almost none of them. There's a good game buried beneath it all, but you'll wade through a lot of sludge to get there.
