Frostpunk 2 is an outstanding sequel, though not in the way you might anticipate. It is larger, deeper, and significantly more intricate than the first. 11 Bit Studios has boldly set aside its successful formula to narrate a new, far more relevant story: one about ideological divides, the dangers of populism, and the heavy toll of maintaining a civilized (or uncivilized) society. This game won't shatter your heart to the same degree as the original, but it will relentlessly challenge your intellect. Frostpunk 2 is a brilliant political simulation hidden within the shell of a post-apocalyptic city-builder. If you're prepared to survive the physical cold only to enter the true hell of politics, this icy city is waiting for you.

"A stunning strategy experience that shines on consoles." Frostpunk 2 is a bold and stunning evolution of the series, bringing the experience from survival management to the art of government and politics amidst an unforgiving icy world to consoles. The game offers a rare blend of strategic depth and human drama, where every law, every alliance, and every decision has a real impact on the fate of your city. While the political complexity may confuse some players, it gives the experience an intellectual and human weight rare in the genre.

Frostpunk 2 is an excellent strategic city builder. Despite some imperfect pad controls and a steep difficulty curve, its deep and rewarding gameplay, centered around a unique diplomatic system, makes it a must-try for any fan of the genre, especially since it's included in Game Pass Premium.

Frostpunk 2 is a daring, dense, and compelling sequel. Not perfect, but for those who love harsh strategy and moral drama, it is an evolving masterpiece. And we don’t get a lot of those on Xbox, so happy to have another must-play game for strategy fans.

Sharing only a name and a concept, Frostpunk 2 does a great deal to distance itself mechanically from its precursor, a choice that is both bold and a little bit disappointing. A polished veneer and interesting gameplay interactions do very little to make up for a marred UI and a host of visual glitches. In time this could become an incredible sequel, but in its current state it remains lacking in substance.

You will get a bigger, bolder, and more visionary take on the building simulator. One that is unlike anything else out there. But it will be less personal and intimate in return. How much that bothers you is up to everyone to decide for themselves.

Frostpunk 2 takes the ideas of survival and city building from the first game and adds new political and social elements. You’ll need to manage tricky relationships with different factions, making hard decisions that impact how your city develops. The game uses the Unreal Engine 5, making the game feel even more immersive. However, the steep learning curve might make it tough for new players to get started.

Frostpunk 2 expands the original survival city-builder to a larger scale by introducing a deeper political system and sector-based city expansion. The game retains its intense resource management and chilling atmosphere, but now decision-making focuses more on broader strategic choices rather than micromanagement.

Frostpunk 2 always demonstrates a creation of complex gameplay that is not at all intuitive, but very interactive towards the players by putting you in front of choices that will determine your progression in the game, but in addition to towards glory they could lead you towards sideration. As much as the game is well structured and its objectives clear the lack of an actual tutorial is felt, especially considering that we are not even shown the game controls, A pity also regarding the graphical discrepancy between the video scenes and the actual gameplay, the details and effects during gameplay are well taken care of, but they do not justify graphics that compared to the rest can be classified as mediocre.

In the time I played Frostpunk 2, it became my go-to city builder. I love the post-apocalyptic theme, and it is very replayable, but the fact that every single element in the game has some importance to it made me feel like I had to utilize everything at my disposal to really keep my people happy. It is a lot of information at times, and there are some UI elements I would have wanted to see more often, but it is small in the grand scheme and is just such a fun game to play. It is a bit harder to run on the Steam Deck, and the RAM creeping up is a little concerning, but this is still wonderful to play on the Deck. I hope that future patches can help it perform a bit better with gamepad support and lower RAM usage, but I am happy overall!

Frostpunk 2 is an exceptional title, a management-survival hybrid that bravely diverges from its predecessor to pursue its own ambitions. With a stunning setting, deep and multifaceted gameplay, and impressive artistic design, this sequel will delight fans willing to embrace the series’ new direction. However, its high difficulty, heavy focus on certain game aspects, and underwhelming day-one performance may deter some players from diving in.

Cold, bleak and unforgiving, just like its predecessor. It may stray even further from the "traditional" City Builders genre, but when experiencing what it has to offer, Frostpunk 2 is in many ways the ideal sequel.

11 bit studios has clearly understood what we expect from a sequel. Frostpunk 2 is not just a new opus with improved graphics and additional scenarios. This second opus offers a truly unique experience that satisfies old and new players alike. Whether with the implementation of its political system or its neighborhoods, the game succeeds in renewing the young franchise. Nevertheless, the tutorial still lacks a little clarity, especially for neophytes who will have to spend several minutes reading long texts to understand everything. Fortunately, the game also incorporates countless accessibility options so that everyone can enjoy it. If you're a management game fan, you won't be disappointed with this title!
