Praey for the Gods is a Shadow of the Colossus-inspired adventure with sluggish controls, distracting survival mechanics, and painful bugs that make it hard to recommend.

An utterly shameless clone of Shadow Of The Colossus that comes nowhere close to mirroring the same level of grandeur and ingenuity as Team Ico's classic.

Praey for the Gods is another showcase of what a small team can accomplish when a far larger team won't. While the controls can be occasionally floaty, the pure enjoyment of tackling these puzzle monsters is an absolute joy. Don't sleep on this one – it's worth your time.

Nevertheless, it remains a nice game that immediately sucks us into its atmosphere thanks to a mastered artistic direction and a splendid OST.

Praey for the Gods excels in some aspects but is hampered by a number of tedious mechanics. The boss battles are truly impressive in terms of design and execution and will please fans of SOTC. However, the dated controls make traversal and combat cumbersome. In an attempt to broaden the gameplay, No Matter Studios has added a survival system that is detrimental to the enjoyment. This, along with other needless mechanics, hampers the game. Rather than a tailored, focused adventure, the Praey for the Gods combines too many elements that make this a convoluted experience.

The survival mechanics feel remarkably similar to Breath of the Wild, with item management and weapon degradation taking centre stage. These are reasonably well implemented, but are at odds with the otherwise minimal nature of the game. The devs would have perhaps been wise to focus more on polishing up the boss battles, as these are the true stars of the show.

It is never pleasant to assign an insufficiency, even more so if at the debut of a tiny team that with so much passion faces the market for the first time. Unfortunately, however, Praey for the Gods ends up crushed under the weight of his own ambitions, victim of a fluctuating and problematic realization: even avoiding in any way the direct comparison with his illustrious points of reference, the action-adventure of No Matter Studios is difficult to recommend.

Praey for the Gods from No Matter Studios is a game with potential. It has some good survival gameplay design and is an interesting open-world adventure that encourages exploration of its desolate landscape. There’s a lot to like here, though not completely perfect in some gameplay aspects.

Praey for the Gods is game that is inches away from being a new classic. It does many things very well, and it is an incredibly impressive achievement for a small team. It is dragged down a bit by trying to be too many things at once. I applaud the attempt to spice up the "in-between" time that Shadow had, but the result doesn't quite hit the mark. If you have a tolerance for tedium to reach some brief high points, then Praey delivers, but newcomers might be best served by starting off with Shadow of the Colossus.

Praey for the Gods looks similar to a typical AAA-class game for an indie game, but it has a disappointing completeness, and overall, it feels like it has not been able to follow a famous masterpiece.
