Ghostwire: Tokyo is memorable and eerily elegant but lacks depth. The open world is worth exploring to experience the incredible detail and the alluring additions to Shibuya brought by the fog, but it doesn’t do more than games before it has.

With a unique setting and good ideas, Ghostwire: Tokyo manages to deliver an exciting, fun and very well produced adventure. Exploring the Japanese capital is a delight as we always have quests, battles and explorations to tackle and enjoy. The main story works well and offers an experience with elements of action and horror. Points such as backgrounds and lighting effects are visually impeccable, as are the game mechanics, all solid and interesting. If it weren't for the somewhat repetitive combat and modest use of terror, the game would be a strong contender for GOTY. Even so, we have an excellent and peculiar suggestion for the library of those who enjoy action and adventure games.

Ghostwire: Tokyo is a game that mirrors its own city-world: A mixture of modern and old elements. It bears many imperfections both minor and major in terms of its opwn world engagement and the shallowness of its action part.

Ghostwire: Tokyo had the potential to be a far better game than it ended up being, but in the end, it’s a decent game with moments that shine.

At its best, Ghostwire: Tokyo shows us a world that is under siege by beings from the afterlife who can manipulate the spaces around them, distort reality and give us quite the scare. At its worst, which happens way too often, it leaves us to take care of busywork in an open world that needed to have a lot more thought put into it to really work.

GhostWire Tokyo is an exciting and just plain cool game. The combat, while a bit repetitive, is fun and flashy in the best way, and the world is a thrill to explore. I hope we get a sequel set in another part of Japan, as the Japanese folklore combined with everything else makes this a truly unique experience that I’d love to experience again.

The last work of Tango Gameworks presented itself with very great wishes, but not having completely respected the expectations. Overall we find ourselves in front of a good game, with some really exciting phases, but just as many slow and boring. However, it cannot be defined as a failure, giving us one of the most inspired art designs in the videogame landscape and a fun gameplay all in all.

Ghostwire Tokyo creates a stellar atmosphere worth experiencing. Tokyo is breathtaking, even though the trip there lasts a bit too long.

Ghostwire: Tokyo is an odd collection of ideas from a studio that is obviously trying to break out of just doing horror. Some of it works, some of it doesn't, and the game feels unique and like playing a PS3 open-world game simultaneously.

Ghostwire: Tokyo ticks all the boxes for me. An enjoyable action-adventure with a captivating story and a beautiful location. The gameplay is crisp and clean which has no doubt benefitted from the extra-time Tango Gameworks had following the delay in release from 2021. PlayStation owners are now left wondering what the future holds as Deathloop and Ghostwire Tokyo were the only confirmed exclusives left. Bethesda themselves, now part of Microsoft, have stated that future availability will be determined “case by case.“. It is a superb closure to the known situation and I am sure Xbox owners will get their chances to play when the exclusivity deal finishes. It is for this reason that Ghostwire: Tokyo gets the Thumb Culture Platinum Award.

Tango Gameworks manages to embalm it’s player in a beautiful and enticing world that is known as Ghostwire: Tokyo. There is a sense of the unknown that shrouds this new, and interesting universe, and while I may have some issues, ultimately I believe the studio has laid out a solid foundation, for what is hopefully a start to a beautiful franchise. The story will get you hooked, but the world itself will have you staying, searching for answers to those questions you dare not ask.

While there’s plenty of room for improvement in the main narrative and in establishing its antagonists, the content of the side missions ensures the game remains interesting throughout. Its ability to transport players into its supernatural Tokyo is not to be understated, and uncovering the different Japanese spirits while helping those unable to move on gives the game a thoroughly engaging loop that is hard to put down.

While the open world format relies too much on repetitious side activities, Ghostwire: Tokyo’s beautiful world is successful in maintaining engagement.

There’s clever use of the new controller options. But when it comes to video games, gameplay is ultimately everything and this title simply won’t blow you away.

Ghostwire: Tokyo also offers a surprisingly robust education in traditional Japanese folklore and horror. As an open-world experience, the game is not without its flaws. But for the curious who are fortunate enough to own a PlayStation 5 (or decently specced-out PC), Ghostwire‘s unique storytelling and setting raise it to instant cult classic status.

Ghostwire: Tokyo has a fun setting and a great vibe, but is held back at times by inconsistent combat and it’s adherence to the open world zeitgeist.

After watching the credits roll on Akito and K.K.’s journey, I still find myself itching to finish up every single thing in Ghostwire: Tokyo. Pray at those last few Jizo statues. Find the remaining tanuki. Figure out how to get inside of the 24th floor of the shopping complex so I can take out its pesky corruption spot. I’m forty hours in and counting and one hundred percent willing to do it all over again.
