The Serpent Rogue Reviews
If you're into crafting and gathering, steep challenge and risky exploration, The Serpent Rogue is a concoction worth tasting.
The Serpent Rogue focuses all the experience on resource gathering and crafting, relegating every other aspect of gameplay to the role of a co-primary.

Despite the early confusion, The Serpent Rogue is a great pick for fans of craft-intensive games like Valheim. The focus on exploration will appeal to open-world RPG gamers, as well as those who like strong stories with dark or spooky themes. The game's crafting system is well-balanced, and the ability to learn about crafting ingredients adds an extra level of immersion that benefits the main character's role as an alchemist. While The Serpent Rogue may not be great as an entry-level crafting game, it is a fantastic and beautifully crafted fantasy adventure that is enjoyable and challenging from the second players embark on their journey.
Something I don’t often remark on for games is the soundtrack, but I’m going to for The Serpent Rogue. I loved how each area had a different track, some darker and menacing, others more lighthearted and serene. Most of the safe areas had music that served well to not be distracting, especially when trying to work through the brewing process or recover losses. Other areas, even some of the safe areas, had musical tones that kind of set me on edge a little, reminding me of the futility of some of my efforts and the fragility of my situation.
Like the potions you'll mix, The Serpent Rogue is an odd concoction-a mixture of casual open-world play and twitch combat. I definitely prefer the former, but like the joy I felt when finding a successful formula, figuring out a way to crush an enemy after several defeats feels like an accomplishment. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go find some blueberries.
If you're someone who enjoys progression through discovery and problem solving, The Serpent Rogue is something you'll enjoy.
The Serpent Rogue keeps its head above water with its handling of its world and challenge, but struggles to excel very far beyond that.
The Serpent Rogue is a game that has a lot going on, which unfortunately has led to most of the game’s features feeling rushed and not fully executed. Keeping it simple would have been a good mantra for The Serpent Rogue to live by, but it instead tries to implement too many things with not enough finesse. The game certainly has interesting researching and crafting elements, with some other unique ideas too. However, it falls short with clunky mechanics and a lack of polish.
Have plenty of resources, research everything and pay attention to your duration.

The Serpent Rogue can be a bit daunting to get into but if you fancy an action/adventure roguelike game that doesn’t hold your hand and dabbles in a lot of crafting then you’ll really enjoy it. The world is fun to explore and there is always something new to find or something new to research and craft to use. It has some things that can be improved but overall, I really enjoyed this cel-shaded medieval fantasy trip.
The Serpent Rogue is a beautiful-looking game full of exploration and crafting that is incredibly challenging but keeps pulling you back to try again. If you like titles like survival-type games that put your skills and patience to the max, this is for you!
This is one of those games that's frustrating because while you can see what direction it wants to head in, and the experience it is trying to deliver, it cant help but get in its own way more often than not...
The Serpent Rogue just didn’t hold my interest for too long and despite numerous times dipping in and out, I found myself easily distracted and disengaged from the experience. A real shame.
The Serpent Rogue is a fun experience the whole way through, a slow burn that’s well worth your time.
The Serpent Rogue is an occult action-platformer that takes in a world where chaos and corruption are taking over. To put an end to this torment, I needed to craft potions, refine my arsenal of items, and engage in combat with a variety of enemies. Was this journey one to write home about? Or did I wish I got back sooner? Find out in this Rapid Review.
The Serpent Rogue has times that it can be incredibly frustrating, early on the lack of information really confused me. I deleted my save game so that I could experience it fresh on 2 occasions. I didn’t want to base the review on that frustration because it wouldn’t have been such a shame. Once everything clicked I really enjoyed the game. A bit of work needs to be done on the combat system, throwing potions seems slow and can often be dodged entirely. Serpent Rogue is a great title in a world that looks great and sounds amazing. It is for these reasons I award it the Thumb Culture Gold Award
What started as a game that didn’t click turned into something quite special. Discovery is this game’s greatest strength, heading into the unknown to researching everything you find and coping with the tough challenges that come. It feels very much like a first entry in a promising gaming series. The crafting and exploration are fun but the combat feels awkward and unforgiving. The Serpent Rogue is a unique crafting adventure which will most likely appeal to players that have the time and the patience to overcome the high barrier to entry. If this all sounds good to you, The Serpent Rogue may be the gaming tonic you’re looking for.
The Serpent Rogue is an entertaining medieval fantasy adventure but some of the unnecessary complexities of gameplay get in the way of player's enjoyment from time to time.

The Serpent Rogue is a unique and rewarding roguelite experience that puts the player fully in control of how they explore and purify its dreary, corrupted lands.
