After the divisive ending of the third game, Bayonetta Origins shows a new set of mechanics with various degrees of success. The relation between Cheshire and Cereza is well crafted and developed, although even with a lot of heart and charisma the game can feel a little predictable in the narrative sense.

Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon might not be the kind of adventure Umbra Witch fans were hoping for, but the game manages to hold its own. With a unique charm that emulates a storybook, Cereza and Cheshire's quest through Avalon Forest is a good choice for anyone wanting to learn more about this iconic witch.

It's a welcomed change of pace for the Bayonetta series that not every fan will find as fulfilling as the main games, but as a smaller project bursting with heart and creativity, Bayonetta Origins is a fun, charming diversion.

Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon is a prequel to the Bayonetta games. The game offers a different kind of gameplay than usual, but can certainly be considered entertaining. It may be aimed at a younger audience, but both fans and newcomers will have a good time.

Cereza and the Lost Demon is true Bayonetta at its core. The fresh take on the beloved series was a true joy to experience from beginning to end. With the series having yet to do much in a while, it might be precisely what the series needed to bring in new fans and bring back old ones.

Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon is a weird beast. It’s a pretty decent game, with a neat level of presentation, and a nice change of pace from the tryhardish action seen in the main games. However, it’s also a game I simply cannot recommend at the suggested retail price.

Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon is a fantastic spinoff depicting an early adventure of a beloved character. Controlling both Cereza and Cheshire to solve puzzles and defeat faeries is a ton of fun, with a lot still left to discover even after the lengthy main story. This is a delightful start to what will hopefully be a fantastic sub-series.

It's great to see an established series take risks like this, and it'll be interesting to see where the series evolves from here, but as of now, there's still much room for improvement.

Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon is one of the most unexpected, unusual releases of all time. It completely goes at odds against the original source material, it has no obvious audience base as a result, but it remains an enjoyable, creative, bold take on a character we felt we knew inside and out. A stagnating second half and a steep price tag let this one down from an outright recommendation, but there’s still enough in here that deserves your attention, embossed with a trademark signature style and quality that could only come from the Umbran Witch herself.

While it does have flaws, and totally looks/plays differently from the original trilogy, Bayonetta Origins shines as a worthy prequel to our favorite Umbra Witch. You'll root for Cereza throughout her journey, and be thrilled when you see her come into her own.

Bayonetta Origin shows Bayonetta in a new format visually, mechanically, and narratively, which makes for an unforgettable ride with some serious lore implications for the series going forward.

Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon is a perfect case of a confident and fun game that can be enjoyed by a wide variety of players, including younger audience. But even if you are a dark and gloomy adult there is still lots to find in this magical fairy tale.

Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon is a well-made metroidvania spinoff, with solid - if not particularly imaginative or complex - gameplay. Targeting a younger audience through easy gameplay and a fairy tale aesthetic places it in an awkward spot within the rest of the franchise.

Is a game about a tween Bayonetta who can't attack enemies worth playing? Well, as a huge fan of the series, we adored this trip back to her childhood, thanks to its beautiful aesthetic, a killer soundtrack, and surprisingly deep and unique combat.

My hope is that a potential sequel to this would alleviate some of these issues, and I really hope it gets one. Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon is a tremendous surprise that, while imperfect, beautifully blends Platinum design with light Zelda and Metroid trappings. The game's quiet release (and cumbersome title), to me, betrays Cereza and the Lost Demon's status as perhaps Platinum's best Switch game yet.

Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon brings with it a mixed bag of elements. While I enjoyed my time with the game overall, it does have some sizable shortcomings. Any player more interested in gameplay than the story should probably think twice about picking it up. At the same time, those who wish to experience a well-executed tale about friendship and overcoming one’s fear set in a unique, dark fairytale world may want to pick it up, as long as they can accept a few bumps in the road.

Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon brings us back to the most famous Umbra witch in the world in a somewhat peculiar spin-off that is far away from that wild action vídeo games we are usted to. This time, we will control a rookie, young and inexperienced Cereza before becoming the Bayonetta we all know and love in a top-down adventure where she will simultaneously cooperate with the demonic Cheshire cat solving puzzles, exploring and collaborating to eliminate enemies. A dynamic that may seem very crazy at first but quickly becomes very dynamic and fun. This game is deceiving at first glance, because although it seems like a minor title, it is actually a delivery made with great care and attention that provides us with very entertaining and fun moments. An adventure that will captivate us during the approximately 8 hours that it lasts with continuous exploration, action and puzzle solving, some constants that interchange with a synergy that will make it impossible to get bored.
