If you think about what Frogwares had to go through this past year in Ukraine, it’s an amazing feat that Sherlock Holmes The Awakened came to fruition. Sure, the game doesn’t break any new ground, but the team did it, and it just works! This crossover between Lovecraft and Sherlock is a dream come true for a detective and horror fan like myself. Even though The Awakened re-uses many of the same assets and engine and suffers from some of the same frustrations as Chapter One, it still remains a compelling detective experience from start to finish. There’s plenty of madness to lose your sanity to and lots of cases waiting to be solved!

The cosmic divinity imagined by H.P. Lovecraft remains immersed in its eternal sleep, because in the interesting videogame mixture concocted by Frogwares it is above all the influence of Arthur Conan Doyle to drive a narrative made of investigations and common crimes, while the horrors of the astral planes remain under the radar and can only be touched in short sequences.

Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened has its atmosphere, it has its research part and good protagonists and dialogues. Beyond that, however, he has several issues with his menus and the horror part and with his balance, which prevents him from going a step further.

Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened blends Cthulhu and Holmes very well, but the strengths of its story and premise are let down by the weaknesses of its meandering and opaque gameplay.

Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened targets a very specific group of gamers and delivers for them. It's definitely not for everybody, and if you are mainstream gamer with no interest in detective and puzzle oriented games, you can probably skip this one.

Sherlock Holmes The Awakened provides a great story especially if you are a fan of the H.P. Lovecraft style. It is not as polished as Chapter One however that is partly due to the difficulties the studio faced in trying times. This may be because of quite a few of the problem areas in the game, the complete lack of navigation is at the heart of the game. When you have a map that doesn’t actually show your location it isn’t anywhere nearly as useful aside from fast travel.

Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened remains as a simply correct title that wastes its references. Only recommended for the biggest fans of the studio's work or of the original title, of which it is fair to say that it is a good reinvention.

The uncompromising investigation process, misdirected horror, tedious clue-searching, and unsatisfying story make Sherlock Holmes The Awakened a bit of a sad case.

Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened could have been an intriguing clash of Cluedo/Clue with Cthulu, but instead it’s just a case of squandered potential.

Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened is a fine adventure game that adds in a unique supernatural twist to Sherlock Holmes. The game is at its best when you focus on the supernatural storyline and is at its most boring when it wants you to do anything else. The overall Switch port is quite poor, with poor graphics, constant rendering issues, and poor framerate ruining the experience. Diehard Sherlock Holmes fans that own a Switch may find some fun here, but for everyone else, maybe look elsewhere for a fun adventure rather than pick up Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened.

Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened puts literature's most famous detective out of its usual settings, this time in a world of supernatural elements in what is a remaster of game originally released in 2007. Fans of the long-running Sherlock Holmes series will find elements to enjoy here, such as the appealing plot and the interesting supernatural elements. Nevertheless, for other players the game's technical flaws, the excessive simplicity of the cases, and the lack of actual horror inspiring moments make this an unlikely candidate for players outside its target audience.

Quite possibly the best Sherlock game that Frogwares has made in years, if not ever.

Sherlock Holmes The Awakened is an enjoyable re-imagining of one of Frogwares best takes on the great detective. Stunningly recreated with Unreal Engine, this story has new puzzles, a wealth of side missions, quirky mechanics, and an intriguing plot that keeps itself interesting throughout. A remarkable accomplishment considering the horrendous circumstances the studio has had to overcome.

A slightly janky Lovecraftian Holmes adventure in neo-classic Frogwares style, offering decent fun for fans of the studio's work.

The union between Lovecraft's world and Sherlock Holmes makes this adventure essential for all those lovers of detective, mysterious adventures, with a certain air of terror and a lot of investigation. Frogwares brings us a remake of the title with the same name released in 2007 in which we saw the detective and Doctor Watson face the satanic cult from the world of H.P. Lovecraft, although this new remake has new sequences, new cases, new mechanics and a renewed story to adapt it to the latest and improved Sherlock Holmes games with Unreal Engine. Completing the game will take approximately 15-20 hours depending on your detective skills.
