Overall, EA Sports FC 24 on Switch still feels behind the game on other platforms. For players who have another platform available, the Switch version is definitely to be avoided, but for those who specifically want to play this soccer sim on the go, it's still likely the best option available right now. As such, it might be just escaping relegation in comparison to its predecessors, but EA Sports still owes more to Switch players than what this delivers.

While it isn’t another literal copy-and-paste of last year’s version, EA Sports FC 24 is still leagues worse on Nintendo Switch.

EA Sports FC 24 lacks identity and innovation and is stuck between a fun arcade football game and a deep simulation, eventually failing to deliver for fans of either style. EA is facing no competition for its Football game at the moment and given the commercial success of the game, the future seems darker than ever.

Not going to lie to you: EA Sports FC 24 has been somewhat disappointing so far. The changes aren't that big compared to last year, but there are modes that work worse, new features that irritate more than they entertain, years-old errors that still haven't been resolved and a new ugly and confusing user interface. Not everything is bad, since, if we discount the foul system, the gameplay continues to be fun and the best on the market. So, if EA Sports simulators have captivated you before, this one will too. If not, or if they are tired of the formula, then they will probably do as I did and not wait for the final whistle to leave the stadium.

EA Sports FC 24 doesn't deliver on the changes the name change would suggest. In the end it's still FIFA, but with a few new things to enjoy. Unfortunately that also means this game is plagued by the same issues that have plagued the FIFA-franchise for years like pay-to-win in FUT, weird situations in Career Mode and multiple bugs that have been there since the dawn of time. Some cool new elements like Evolutions in FUT give a little bit of redeeming quality, but overall it's not great.

EA Sports FC 24 is a fine - even good - soccer simulation that just doesn't change anything in a meaningful way, making it forgettable.

EA Sports FC 24 features the best gameplay of recent years, at an early stage of an EA football game, but the fluidity of the gameplay and the taste you derive from it arrives tainted by several parameters that will easily divide the community. The speed of the gameplay removes the feeling of speed differential in the players who really are fast, the errors of the artificial intelligence, animations and collision system, not to mention the erratic behavior of the goalkeepers and the way the values of the players in the Ultimate Team vary crazily from game to game, make the good is beset by several problems. Add to this the heightened sense of familiarity, EA Sports FC 24 is not the undisputed victory one would wish for.

EA Sports FC 24 isn't the huge departure that we'd hoped for. While Ultimate Team devotees will likely be happy, the rest of the game feels like an afterthought in the transition away from the FIFA license.

EAFC 24 ushers in a new era of football for EA Sports. Unfortunately, the game still suffers from the same issues as its predecessor, but hopefully, these baby steps lead to great leaps for the series.

FC 24 is new, but only skin deep. It brings cosmetic updates to the same old formula, while ignoring more important issues on the pitch. Sure, the gameplay gets refined little by little each year, but much remains missing in the core experience. EA prioritises its money-spinning Ultimate Team mode, but stubbornly refuses to bring new ideas to the Career mode. It's telling that FC 24 recycles the same cutscenes for transfer negotiations that we've seen in FIFA games for past three to four years. When the franchise had to move away from its FIFA branding, it presented EA a rare opportunity to forge a new identity for a series that's fast getting frustratingly familiar. That will have to wait. EA Sports FC 24 could have been so much more than what it is — the same dish with new dressing. It does not come as a surprise, though. In a rapidly changing football landscape, EA Sports FIFA has found success in consistency. And in its consistent, familiar approach, FC 24 remains preoccupied with dribbling the ball along the same lines, too scared to take a shot at goal and glory.

The on-pitch gameplay in FC 24 remains as fun as ever, but its failure to make any real, meaningful changes is a real disappointment, especially because almost none of the few changes it does make come anywhere close to sticking the landing.

EA FC 24, the revamped FIFA, brings a breath of fresh air with its dynamic menu, "precision pass," and reintroduction of female athletes in Ultimate Team. However, it grapples with lingering connectivity troubles and a lack of innovation. On a positive note, the elimination of position-altering consumables, in Ultimate Team, and the introduction of "playstyles" offer enhanced gameplay depth. All in all, EA FC 24 caters to football enthusiasts, offering a small blend of new features while still wrestling with the same gameplay formula.

With the license gone this is the beginning of a new era, but it feels like business as usual - for better and for worse.

Like that team that ends up tied after wasting a penalty in the last minute, EA Sports FC 24 ended up basically staying the same as in recent years. In reality, the balance is slightly negative: if on the one hand the football matches still have a good dose of fun and we have a good variety of game modes, on the other the visuals remain dated, the online gameplay is bad and the dependence on purchases is increasing.

EA Sports FC 24 is exactly what you would expect from EA's yearly footballing simulator. There are a few new mechanics to enjoy, with some of them being more useful than others. Player career has seen a slight upgrade with the new contract objectives. However, outside of this there aren't any substantial changes and Ultimate Team is still great fun, for those that enjoy that side of FC. This is yet another solid entry in EA's yearly football sim, and proves that EA don't need FIFA's license to draw players in.

All in all, EA FC 24 is more than 'just a FIFA 24 name change'; it's an evolution of a long-standing franchise which is attempting to appeal to new, returning and current players alike. Have they done a good job? From what we've gathered from our time reviewing it, yes. Yes, they have. Do we wish for more substantial improvements to really differentiate itself from the FIFA franchise EA Sports has been associated with throughout the years? Definitely. But will it satiate the present-day needs of having a football sim which closely reflects the current climate of the game? Sure.

New name, same beautiful game is how I'd describe EA SPORTS FC 24. There is, once again, nothing revolutionary here, although PlayStyles and HyperMotion V are to be applauded as they further blur the line between virtual and real life football.
