While I still don't think the game is as successful or accessible as SteamWorld Dig, I applaud Image & Form for flipping the series entirely on its head while still being able to provide an amazing game. If you are new to the series or genre and want to try it out, SteamWorld Heist should be a no-brainer to pick up. Meanwhile, more hardcore turn-based strategy fans should be able to enjoy the interesting setting, light-hearted humor and graduated difficulty modes.

Considering how wildly different SteamWorld Heist is from its predecessor, this was clearly a bit of a risk for Image & Form. Fortunately for us, it is one that really pays off.

So far, its been a great year for turn based strategy games on PlayStation 4, and SteamWorld Heist has added further to the bounty. With its addictive and accessible gameplay, not only is it the perfect title for players of any skill level to test their metal, but you'll also have such a good time playing it that you'll quickly forget it isn't the direct sequel to SteamWorld Dig that you may have been hoping for.

All in all, Image & Form have once again knocked it out of the park with Steamworld Heist. Fun, addictive and comical, it has everything in needs to become another success for the Icelandic studio.

SteamWorld Heist is a delight right from the very beginning. A beautiful stripped-back strategy game that ditches many of the genres bells and whistles in order to focus on the action, it offers an appealingly new perspective on one of the oldest genres in video games.

The combat is satisfying and full of strategy, the world is interesting and visually pleasing – the whole steampunk, western, space aesthetic is great, and even extends to the music with the band Steam Powered Giraffe providing the saloon band style soundtrack – and the story is quirky and comes with a nice twist.

SteamWorld Heist takes elements of tactical strategy and blends it with skill-based combat. The resulting combination is (like the robots it features) more than the sum of its parts. On top of that, Steamworld Heist is polished to a gleaming shine. Do yourself a favor and play this game.

SteamWorld Heist is a great follow-up to 2013's SteamWorld Dig. It's a charming title and a great experience that, nevertheless, requires you to think about how you approach every scenario. The manual aiming adds a layer of challenge and complexity to it.

Quirky, easy to dive into, and great fun to play around with, SteamWorld Heist is a modern classic and one of our favorite turn-based titles of recent years. Easily recommended.

SteamWorld Heist continues the series' tradition of being simple yet compelling. The game may be easy to grasp, but it delivers a nice difficulty boost that feels fair. The aiming system proves to be a great way to add some strategy to the title while also solving the limits of the 2-D perspective. The whole thing is fun to play, and with a good presentation accompanying a great game length, SteamWorld Heist is a worthy addition to any game library.

A decent 2D turn-based tactical shooter which takes a while to get going but gets a lot better once the tactical options increase. Probably best to get on handheld where its probably more enjoyable to play in short bursts.

SteamWorld Heist on Wii U is exactly what we expected - a high quality Wii U iteration of a game that was already fantastic on 3DS. The wider field of view and sharper graphics are certainly appealing, and this remains a game that can easily keep players engaged for hour after hour. Image & Form struck gold with its blend of turn-based strategy and skill-based combat, and it's stolen our affections all over again now that it's arrived on Nintendo's home console.

SteamWorld Heist, like the other SteamWorld games before it, is simple yet complex. It is a very accessible turn-based RPG with a lot of character. The characters are interesting and the core gameplay is very engaging. All of that wrapped up in a Firefly-like space adventure makes this a game that is very difficult for me to put down.

Steamworld Heist is what many would consider a AAA indie title, with Image and Form pulling out all the stops to craft a near flawless experience that's both fresh and unique. The gameplay may differ largely from Steamworld Dig, but it's a ride that's just as good, if not better. There's plenty of content to delve into in the base game, with greater difficulties and randomly generated levels serving up a new challenge to players who have already beaten it. For those who enjoyed the previous instalment, go ahead and pick this up right now!

Image and Form has been on their game with the SteamWorld series for years, and this is the definitive version of their best game to date. SteamWorld Heist is one of the best things any download service has to offer.

You might have already guessed by reading the above, but everything works so well together it's shocking. This is one of the most polished products I have played in the last 5 years, standing out as a real labor of love.

SteamWorld Heist does little to take advantage of Wii U's capabilities, but is still one of the best indie games on the system.

A steampunk aesthetic with pirate robots in space who engage in an RPG/strategy game and require careful aiming from the player is exactly what SteamWorld Heist excels at and the marvelous audiovisual environment in which all this takes place only makes it better. This truly is a remarkable game that puts the players in the middle of the funniest steampunk space pirates adventure ever made.

There’s nothing quite like it (especially on a 3DS) and for that reason it was easy to keep coming back. Missions are ideal for portable play and in my time with the game, the affinity for Steamworld Heist grew larger with each mission passed. My only real faults with Steamworld Heist is I find movement overall too slow and the game does become repetitive by the end of the campaign.

SteamWorld Heist was an excellent game when it launched in 2015, and it's still excellent today on the Switch. Offering a familiar world and style with a new way to play amid the robots, it's a strategy game that belongs on every Switch
