Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is one of the finest examples of the Metroidvania genre. It's a stellar platformer packed with a lot of enjoyable content. While the storyline might not fully deliver, the rest of the game more than makes up for it.

A Prince of Persia Metroidvania 2.5D side-scroller was not on my bingo card in 2024, but the game left me pleasantly surprised. While The Lost Crown may not be a high-budget blockbuster title, Ubisoft certainly understood the assignment and delivered a title that provides plenty of enjoyment. This is a solid game with its fast-paced and satisfying combat, interesting story and setting, and incorporation of authentic Persian mythology and art. I can recommend The Lost Crown not only to Prince of Persia fans but also to platformer lovers in general.
Prince of Persia The Lost Crown is, perhaps surprisingly, a quality game from Ubisoft, which is highly recommended to all fans of the metroidvania sub-genre, but also to those who love the series. Sure, it's challenging as a game, which may put off a portion of players, but it's fun, clever, and at times, magical.
The prince has been kidnapped. To save him, Sargon will have to conquer the Powers of Time and learn to combine them with his own warrior skills. The greatest strength of Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown lies precisely in this mix. Ubisoft Montpellier's metroidvania is based on an intricate and exciting map, as well as offering the player a combat system that combines parry, magic and typically hack 'n' slash mechanics. The result is an unoriginal game, which doesn't stand out artistically speaking, but which certainly manages to entertain. Highly recommended for metroidvania lovers who are waiting for Silksong.

Ubisoft starts 2024 right by releasing one of the least Ubisoft games out there. Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is a refreshing re-introduction of the highly missed franchise as it comes back with a beautiful world to explore alongside a great gameplay loop to tie it all up.
"Ubisoft has set a high standard for 2024 with Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. This Metroidvania is expertly crafted, with excellent platforming and standout combat. The game is full of personality, showcasing Ubisoft Montellier's skill. However, it falls just short of matching the best in the subgenre, with a lackluster story and occasional pacing issues. Still, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is a fantastic Metroidvania and a welcome return for a much-missed franchise."

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is an amazing revival of a series that hasn’t been given much love in recent years and is an incredible addition to the Metroidvania genre. It’s combat, puzzles and platforming are really satisfying doesn’t overstay it’s welcome when it comes to overall pacing.
The Lost Crown is one of my favorite games of the year and maybe my favorite Prince of Persia game ever. The fluid and skill-expressive movement and combat really shine in this Metroidvania that shows there's still a place for the series in a post-Assassin's Creed Ubisoft.

It draws inspiration from the great progenitor of the series from 1989, splicing the platforming formula with the modern Metroidvania concepts. In mixing the classic with the new while avoiding unnecessary gimmicks, it becomes the ultimate Prince of Persia.
Ubisoft's latest installment stands tall, providing an invigorating experience that both newcomers and series veterans will find enthralling.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is a pleasure to play and a welcome return for a series that has been dormant for far too long, even if it doesn’t have that much in common with its fully 3D ancestors. A weak story and a few pacing issues hold it back from breaking into the highest echelons of the Metroidvania genre and duking it out with the likes of Hollow Knight, but it’s pretty far up there and a fantastic way to kick off the year. It might even be in the top 10.
If you’re a fan of the Metroidvania genre, or action platforming games in general, I couldn’t recommend Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown more. The Lost Crown nimbly juggles combat, character progression, platforming, exploration, environmental puzzle-solving, boss encounters, and storytelling, all without neglecting one element to the detriment of another.
"A new king has been crowned."

It certainly looks the part: lush, dynamic backgrounds are detailed with cascading waterfalls, impossibly huge machines and enormous mythical beasts. And this is just as well given that players will become very acquainted with the map. When new abilities are unlocked, it’s necessary to return to previous locations that can then be explored further. And in order to keep track of awkward sections, it’s possible to pin screenshots to the map, a neat feature we’ll hopefully see taken up by other games. The Lost Crown is a bold new entry for this series and a great entry point for players new to the genre.
