Where last year's LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham proved that there's still life in the LEGO series, LEGO Marvel's Avengers is proof positive that cracks are beginning to show in TT Games' once bulletproof franchise. A severe lack of variety lets the side down, indicating that it's high time the LEGO series receive a much-needed shot in the arm.

As a whole, LEGO Marvel's Avengers will entertain the young gamers in the household, while providing short spurts of entertainment to seasoned ones. Avengers may not be the best in the LEGO series, but it does fit firmly within the LEGO gaming family.

It's a good game, just not quite the masterpiece it would have felt like even a few short years ago.

Lego Marvel Avengers is cute fun with a familiar concept. Buy it for your kids if they want it, but don't break the bank for this iterative entry.

Familiar, safe, but as sharp as Tony Stark

A solid entry but it's getting a bit tiresome now.

I recommend this game, it has a lot of value and hours of gameplay that all should enjoy. The skill level is not too hard for anyone to get in and get involved, and the graphics should delight all involved. Other than the slow combat, this game rings true of the skill that TT games make and I look forward to more adventures with them in various LEGO universes soon.

For a LEGO game, LEGO Marvel's Avengers is adequate but not complete. It has a lot going for it, but it's starting to feel like Call of Duty in the way that it's blurring with all the others in the franchise.

LEGO Dimensions felt like much-needed innovation for a game series that has seen little change since its inception in 2006.

If you're a huge Marvel fan or a huge Lego fan – and especially if you're both – it's a no-brainer: get this game. You're going to love everything about it. I tend to fall on the casual side of the spectrum in my Marvel and Lego fandom, but I am a fan of great games. I'd say that for people like me, this is a really good game, but it's not as great as I hoped it'd be. I was absolutely delighted by the trademark TT Games humor and playfulness, and I absolutely intend to spend many hours in the game's free mode playing with my favorite superheroes and looking for Stan Lee in every single stage (he makes several priceless cameos). Several obtuse, tedious, or otherwise frustrating objectives and some level flow issues keep me from giving this an unreserved recommendation, but like the movies on which it's based, Lego Marvel's Avengers is a wild ride that many will come to cherish and want to revisit again and again.

LEGO Marvel's Avengers is easily one of TT's best attempts as both a LEGO title, and a licensed one. It's proof that TT understands both the LEGO properties and whatever licensed property they're tackling at any given time.

Lego Marvel's Avengers is likely to impress no one except diehard Marvel fans, ones that have adorned their walls with posters of Captain America and wear Iron Man costumes for Halloween. And if all you're looking for is a bit of Lego-infused action, there are unmistakeably half a dozen better entries to choose from; the game's own predecessor - 2013's Lego Marvel Super Heroes - one of the more entertaining options.

Lego Marvel's Avengers is a fun solid title but is also another by-the-numbers Lego game. There isn't really any advancement to gameplay mechanics and this is a bit of a disappointment after how great Lego Marvel Super Heroes was. The story mode is a bit boring to play through and once again the real highlight of the game is free-roaming the world hubs.

While not particularly challenging or deep, LEGO Marvel's Avengers offers exactly what fans expect - an accessible and often enjoyable adaptation of the movies.

Lego Marvel's Avengers is a solid journey into the Marvel cinematic universe, incorporating some of the best moments of the different films released throughout the years while respecting the limitations when it comes to the character roster. Gameplay is as captivating as ever, and the couple of improvements manage to fit quite well into the established recipe. However, there are some noticeable downsides relating to the voice "acting" not to mention the design of some specific stages that feel rushed or confusing.

Lego Marvel's Avengers is a wonderful recreation of the source material, it's fun to play and the trademark humor fans have come to expect from the series remains intact. Unfortunately, the game's short length makes it a little difficult to recommend for most seasoned gamers.

If you're looking for an exciting, LEGO superhero game, you won't find it in the 3DS version of LEGO Marvel's Avengers. The simple and intuitive gameplay and charming humor can't save this game from its performance issues. Inconsistent framerate, a muddled story and a poorly rendered open world keep LEGO Marvel's Avengers from being mighty.

Lego Marvel's Avengers is a wonderful recreation of the source material. Fans of the Marvel Studios films will be happy to know that the trademark humor they've come to expect from both Marvel and Lego remains intact. Unfortunately, the game never quite reaches the same heights as its predecessor, Lego Marvel Super Heroes. Still, the title is fun to play, and for Marvel fans aren't sick of the Lego formula at this point, there's quite a bit to enjoy.

A huge roster of very different characters, and not even poor soundbites can detract from the overall package. Fans of Marvel and LEGO alike will enjoy the heck out of everything this has to offer.

When it was announced that the next Marvel game was to be based on the MCU, it seemed unlikely it could live up to LEGO Marvel Super Heroes and yet the team has managed to take each aspect of the previous entry and make improvements. This is easily the best LEGO title released so far, and also easily the best Marvel game produced, full stop. It epitomises an element of games that many seem to have forgotten recently: fun. The upcoming Season Pass also brings with it a significant amount of content for a surprisingly low price - a mere £8 for five packs that add new levels and an extra 40 characters.
