Let's not beat around the bush: we didn't like the new direction Electronic Arts and Bioware have given to the Dragon Age franchise. The original idea must have been to expand the public for this third entry, but the result is a game that won't probably appeal to anyone, expecially long-time fans. Just give us a Dragon Age Origins remaster at this point, please.

I seriously enjoyed my time (and still am) in the world of Dragon Age: The Veilguard and it is easily in my top three games of 2024. BioWare have done a wonderful job at revisiting this franchise from its engaging narrative, realistic characters and gameplay that takes RPG to a whole new realm. With next-gen graphics, superb audio, Dragon Age: The Veilguard is gunning for game of the year!

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is undoubtedly a competent ARPG, with some commendable elements in its combat and exploration. However, it's disappointing that, aside from the impressive art design and nostalgic appearances of certain characters from previous entries, it feels like BioWare has strayed from the series' original essence. The familiarity is there, but it lacks the deeper connection that longtime fans might have hoped for.

Dragon Age is back with a new look and gameplay that works well if you stick to it; but Dragon Age: The Veilguard is above all a solid statement of BioWare’s return to form to make memorable single-player experiences.

That amazing Dragon Age game we've been waiting years for? No, it's not. Is it a good game? Debatable. But it does so many right things at a few vital points that it managed to win my heart with those moments alone.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard isn't BioWare's best work, but it's good. Offering a beautiful world and a ton to do, heading back into Thedas is an easy choice for some. For others, the downgrade in writing and limited combat might be a dealbreaker.

With a very positive balance, Dragon Age: The Veilguard updates some of the franchise's best-known systems, simplifying several of them in favor of a lighter tone and a more direct narrative. While art style and combat can divide audiences, the narrative suffers from inconsistencies, and fluidity favors action over the strategy so characteristic of the franchise.

The Veilguard brings many changes to the Dragon Age series, yet its heart stays the same - it is a captivating, touching, and epic fantasy adventure that won't leave you indifferent.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is a worthwhile return for the RPG franchise. Despite some oversimplification of mechanics and uneven writing, the new combat style and interesting characters and narrative choices make for an engaging fantasy adventure.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is a perfectly fine action RPG that simply doesn't stand up to the best of what 2024 has to offer. While those who liked Dragon Age 2 will appreciate this title, more casual fans best tread with caution.

So, yeah, sure. Dragon Age: The Veilguard is an objectively well-made product that is perfectly playable and it’s both empowering and entertaining. But it’s also nothing more than a product, finely tuned for passive consumption, right off the content mill.

A great main plot, interesting companions and numerous simplifications. BioWare didn't know until the end which way it wanted to go and prepared a game that won't satisfy all the studio's fans. And unfortunately, far too much depends on what class you choose at the beginning.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is and isn't the game I wanted it to be. It's a rollicking fun story where you fight monsters, save lives, and lead your plucky team of adventurers against impossible odds. At the same time, it feels more like Mass Effect than Dragon Age, and since The Veilguard is the climax of a story, it might be difficult for newcomers to hop into. If I set aside my expectations, it's a pretty darn fun action-RPG that stands well on its own.

The latest chapter in the Dragon Age saga successfully combines the best of semi-open-world gameplay with a balanced and engaging combat system. While Dragon Age: The Veilguard falls short of previous installments in areas like side quests, story choices, and dialogue depth, it excels in combat quality, world design, and audiovisual presentation, delivering some of the most epic battles in the series. This game is a roller-coaster experience; at its peak, it entertained and amazed me, yet at times, its lack of depth dampened my enthusiasm.

While veteran fans may find the game’s mechanics and narrative a step back, I appreciated its accessibility and polish. Dragon Age: The Veilguard is a flawed but fun RPG that left me eager to see what BioWare will deliver next.

With so much history and frankly, baggage, Dragon Age: The Veilguard was always going to find it hard to please everyone. But what BioWare has done is put together an RPG that fits in well with the modern audience but still offers up many of the elements that make the studio such a stalwart in the genre. The exciting combat, a great cast of characters, excellent writing, and the visuals and audio combine to make this new entry almost unstoppable, like the Blight. There are no doubt still kinks to work out, but if this is the new Dragon Age, the future definitely looks brighter than ever before.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard succeeds in its mission to welcome new players into the series with accessible gameplay, stunning visuals, and engaging exploration. However, its streamlined design reduced narrative depth, and simplified romance options may leave longtime fans yearning for the complexity of earlier entries. For newcomers, The Veilguard is a captivating introduction to the magic of Thedas. For veterans, it’s a visually spectacular, albeit simplified, chapter in the Dragon Age saga—a promising foundation that could pave the way for a deeper, more ambitious future installment.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard captivated me for around 65 hours, with its heartwarming focus on team dynamics, diverse characters, and personal stories. While the RPG mechanics feel shallow at times, the rich world full of secrets and treasures made the journey unforgettable — and I hope BioWare one day finds its way back to success.
