There are a lot of roguelite games, crossing over with a dozen other genres. Maybe your rogue capacity is filled to the brim and spilling over. That’s kind of what I was thinking when I sat down to play Rogue Waters. But then it has enough originality to be engaging, and it’s made well enough to be fun! This isn’t the holistic pirate game of my imagination, but sometimes you don’t want to play Red Read Redemption, you want to play a fast run of something that holds your attention and hits hard. Rogue Waters will do that for you. And I hope before we get a Rockstar or Naughty Dog pirate magnum opus, we get a hundred more games with cool ideas like Rogue Waters. There’s room in the world of gaming for someone to take a wild shot, and sometimes that shot hits its target.

Rogue Waters is a roguelite with turn-based combat that is certainly not among the most complete around, but it benefits from a fascinating setting and interesting use of pushing and projecting to create domino effects and quickly get rid of enemies. What's more, it has a story to be followed all in one go or by taking breaks while engaging in the many side quests. Unfortunately, the naval combat section was not articulated enough, but the battles and character growth lift the fortunes of this production, which will not fail to thrill lovers of turn-based combat.

This roguelike heartily embraces trappings of piracy and life on the high seas that flips the traditional pirate ghost story on its head to offer more than appears at first glance.

Rogue Waters is a solid title for those who like the weirdly common overlap that pirates and the supernatural have, and will definitely please those who enjoy a good Firaxis-adjacent turn-based combat system.

Rogue Waters is a fun and immersive pirate-themed tactical rogue-lite that offers a unique blend of naval and melee combat. While there’s room for growth in terms of content and UI polish, the game’s core mechanics are addictive, and its short, engaging runs make it perfect for players seeking bite-sized adventures. If you’re a fan of tactical combat and swashbuckling tales, this is one treasure worth digging into—especially if you can catch it on sale.

Rogue Water establishes itself to be a complete package of what modern rogue lite feels with its unique elements that make the ‘pirate’ aspect of the setting stand out. While the story plays safe with very generic OSTs, the game starts by being a big grindy. But if that’s something you can overlook, you’re in for sinking a lot of hours, given you’re not sinking your ship that is.

Rogue Waters is a very well-designed TRPG that has many customization options and does a great job of getting beginners involved by perfectly explaining everything so they can get to the fun factor much more quickly. Combine that with an interesting pirate tale, a great atmosphere, and great visuals, and you’ve got a fresh game worthy of the TRPG genre.

Between the unique raid maps, various crew builds, and sea monsters to summon (yes, you get to unleash a Kraken), every run feels like a new adventure. It’s a game that you can easily lose hours in, and the depth of customization keeps things interesting even after multiple raids.
