Sniper Elite: Resistance Reviews

Sniper Elite: Resistance is ranked in the 56th percentile of games scored on OpenCritic.

Sniper Elite: Resistance is anything but generic, mind you, and will appease anyone left starved for more historical stealth action. I just hope the next Sniper Elite entry is more ambitious in its over execution, instead of what could merely be just Sniper Elite 5.5.

Sniper Elite: Resistance serves as more of a stopgap than a full-blown sequel to Sniper Elite 5, so much of that experience - including its highs and lows - carries over two and a half years later. Its sniping action truly is elite, but the gunplay surrounding it still needs work. Equally, the Invasion Mode is again a standout while enemy AI remains frustrating at times. It is more of the same. However, when that similarity is a fairly unique model in the first place, Sniper Elite: Resistance just about gets away with it.

Sniper Elite: Resistance doesn’t rip up the rule book, it sticks to what it does best and delivers another set of stunning sandboxes to poke around in. The sniping and hilariously detailed X-ray kills are just as satisfying as ever, and the new Propaganda missions are perfect for those looking to test their mettle away from the campaign.

Sniper Elite: Resistance isn't really doing anything new, and that's ok. It's sticking to a tried and true formula and delivering on promises for solid gameplay mechanics spread out over sprawling open levels. It does carry forward the best features ironed out in previous games like kill cams, a balance of stealth and action, freedom to meet objectives, and even Invasion mode to add some spice to the mix if you're so inclined. It's not groundbreaking but it doesn't have to be because it follows a well trodden path that is already established and frankly just a lot of fun to play.

Sniper Elite: Resistance doesn't add or take away from the series' typical formula. The spectacular, varied and bloody kill cams remain spectacular and the level design of different levels allows for different approaches to completing missions. At the same time, the series is starting to feel the need for a refresh on several fronts, which we hope will arrive together with a new numbered iteration.

Let's be real here. Sniper Elite: Resistance clearly doesn't reinvent the series, as it simply expands on where Sniper Elite 5 left off. Those looking for a full fledged next-generation sequel will surely be disappointed, but those looking to play more Sniper Elite will rejoice at the small refinements introduced in this new package. Viva la Sniper Elite 5.5!

Proving once more that there's life yet in its killer sniping mechanics and expansive sandbox missions, Sniper Elite: Resistance is another cracking series entry, even if it's not much of an evolution over Sniper Elite 5. No doubt, Rebellion is saving the big guns for Sniper Elite 6.

Sniper Elite: Resistance delivers more of the excellent tactical stealth shooting action that Sniper Elite 5 boasted three years ago. It might be a familiar experience, but for genre fans, it's still an easy recommendation.

Sniper Elite Resistance is hilarious, chaotic fun... in [an] expertly-crafted sandbox. Experiment, take risks, and above all else: fight the Nazis.

Sniper Elite: Resistance offers up just as much, if not more than Sniper Elite 5 did. But despite a new campaign, a new story and a new protagonist, it still doesn't take enough steps to right any of the notable wrongs from Sniper Elite 5. But regardless of its shortcomings, Sniper Elite: Resistance is a fun and satisfying shooter. Just don't expect it to do much more than the previous games.

As someone that has played the previous titles in the franchise, Sniper Elite: Resistance is highly enjoyable. If you haven't played the series before then this one isn't the best starting point.

Move over, Karl Fairburne-there is a new noggin-popping, nut-shotting Nazi hunter in town, and his name is Harry Hawker. If you are a fan of stealthy action,

Though Sniper Elite: Resistance ranks somewhat lower on the scale of games in the long-running franchise thanks to small bugs and a milquetoast campaign and protagonist, engaging in some sandbox Nazi-killing is still as fun as it's ever been. From every viscerally satisfying shot that can sail through a Nazi's skull to the hectic gunfights that hectically erupt across the battlefield, what remains as stellar as ever is the high-octane action. The game is bolstered by the emphasis on replayability with the quality of additional game modes and the fact it's a side-offering to the main Sniper Elite narrative, leaving it a fitting venture for newcomers and veteran Nazi slayers. No matter who you are, Sniper Elite: Resistance is an action shooter game worth your time because, and say it with me, all Nazis must die.

Sniper Elite: Resistance may win you over with its solid level design, but beyond extending the experience of Sniper Elite 5, it struggles to offer any compelling reasons for recommendation. The game ends quicker than expected and doesn't leave much of a lasting impression-aside from some potential laughs in the invasion mode.

Sniper Elite Resistance keeps all the qualities and, unfortunately, all of the flaws of the previous numbered entry, of which is more a stand-alone downloadable content than a sequel. The problem is that the price is that of a full-blown game, and if you value it as such, it's much harder to overlook the massive reuse of mechanics, assets and maps. Still a solid buy for the long-time fans of Karl Fairburne, but not the overhaul the series desperately need.

There are a handful of minor flaws — the story is disposable, there aren't nearly enough Survival maps, and the graphics engine shows its age in places — but in general the game delivers the goods, both for devotees of the series and for fans of stealth shooting games. Rebellion and Wushu Studios didn't quite score a bullseye, but they hit the target with ease.

Sniper Elite: Resistance is a reasonable continuation of the franchise, its sniping highs remain as amusing as ever thanks to some neat environmental gameplay, but much of its content rehashes what came before instead of evolving the series concept for a true next-gen sequel.

Sniper Elite Resistance is another solid entry in the Sniper Elite series. I was thrilled to learn that it was coming out and I hope the franchise continues. We now know we aren't locked into one character, so the options for different times throughout the conflict and different experiences open up.
