Steel Seed has a lot of fun aspects, but does fall short in some important parts, such as gameplay and music.
Steel Seed is a remarkable experience, with an engaging protagonist, an impactful setting and versatile gameplay that invites experimentation. The combination of action, stealth and exploration is well executed, and the world-building and emotional narrative easily engage the player. However, technical issues such as occasional bugs and excessive darkness in important parts of the game compromise the immersion and fluidity of the experience, preventing the title from reaching an even higher level. Despite this, the overall work is solid and deserves to be highlighted, especially for those who value games with a strong narrative appeal and dense atmospheres.

Steel Seed is a delightful surprise as its blend of stealth, action, puzzles, and some of the best stage designs in the genre make it stand out as an exceptional experience. Even with its obvious shortcomings, I recommend playing this gem for sure. 🤖

A lacklustre story is propped up by fun, if unoriginal, stealth gameplay, with some fun nods back to the ‘good old days’ of action platformers. A few glitches and crashes here and there didn’t help, but it hits the intended points and doesn’t pretend to be anything it’s not.
Steel Seed’s ambitious vision never fully coalesces. While its thought-provoking sci-fi narrative, solid art design, and creative gameplay concepts show promise, repetitive combat, technical hiccups, and uneven pacing drag the experience down. Best suited for AI-fiction enthusiasts, though action-seekers may find it lacking. Ultimately, a diamond in the rough is worth playing, but it needs polish to shine.

Steel Seed has perhaps set the bar a little too high for itself. It is not a firework display of action, but rather shines in the dark. Stealth is clearly the focus here and, paired with a solid sci-fi story, there is always fun to be had. However, the whole thing is more suited to players who are not yet familiar with the genre.

Steel Seed is a frustrating and mundanely derivative mess in most aspects of its game design, but its one signature highlight is that it excels at offering a unique hardcore stealth gameplay loop featuring an interesting and dynamic toolkit for creative takedowns and maneuvers. Considering that Steel Seed was made by a rather small independent studio and that it offers somewhat inventive stealth mechanics, I do think Steel Seed is a decent addition to the stealth genre. However, I don't feel as though Steel Seed is a sufficiently enjoyable game due to all of its shortcomings in a variety of areas, which make Steel Seed feel monotonous, unpolished, and uninspired in its totality.
Steel Seed is real proof of how good ideas in video game development can lead to greatness, and that you don't have to be a super-rich company to make an amazing game.
Steel Seed is a game full of missed opportunities. The solid stealth elements and occasionally impressive visual moments show potential, but that is overshadowed by a weak story, flat characters, and repetitive gameplay. The skill system offers short-lived entertainment, but can't hide the fact that Steel Seed ultimately remains stuck in mediocrity. For fans hungry for a new stealth adventure, Steel Seed may be worth picking up, as long as they temper their expectations. But for many, this game will disappear into a pile, never to be touched again.

Despite some early potential, we came away from Steel Seed underwhelmed by its muddled gameplay style and not all that compelling tale. It has its moments, but players looking for either stealth or action gaming are best off looking elsewhere.
Steel Seed moves between highs and lows while still being enjoyable for its entire duration, shining in its settings and in the stealth and platforming phases, while the story and combat system are definitely improvable. If you love stealth action and cybernetic atmospheres, it's worth giving it a chance.

Steel Seed is a game right up my alley. I love this genre and the games that have that surface level of jank. There is just something about seeing a game built with such clear passion that sometimes doesn’t get the level of polish we see in AAA. I get that many will see a very bare-bones approach to its combat, and I totally agree with that, but there is something fun here that I had a great time with, crashes aside. It's flawed, certainly, and could have used more to make me enjoy the two leads, especially Koby, but ultimately, it's an experience I enjoyed, and eager to see what the team does next.
Steel Seed delivers an emotional narrative in a haunting world, but stumbles where it matters most, Storm in a Teacup clearly poured their heart into Steel Seed’s story, but by neglecting the equally vital pillars of pacing, gameplay engagement, and atmospheric immersion, the game ultimately delivers an emotional journey that resonates — but doesn’t fully satisfy me.
Steel Seed has a lot to say and a lot to show you, presenting a narrative-heavy game with some incredible scenery and cinematic moments. However, I personally found the gameplay a little underwhelming, and was a bit polarized by the story and characters. It’s a game I can certainly see others enjoying, even if it wasn’t really for me.
Steel Seed has everything that I love: explosive set pieces, stealth-focused gameplay and souls-like combat. Unfortunately, none of these elements work together here. Each part felt undercooked for an experience that I cannot recommend to anyone. Despite this, there’s a lot of potential there for something greater, and I hope we get to see a more focused game next.
Steel Seed represents a nice compromise between inspiration and identity, between accessibility and depth. Its cyberpunk atmospheres reference the cornerstones of the genre, and the gameplay recalls (sometimes too much) some of the most appealing productions of recent years. Steel Seed nevertheless remains a nice step forward for our Storm in a Teacup.
