All of these features lead to a package created with lots of love. My only complaint is that only the NES Mega Man games are covered in this package.

A great starter kit history lesson for a beloved platforming franchise. Be warned that it is a very tough and often frustrating lesson, but that it does have its rewards.

These conversions are absolutely spot-on in every regard, and the supplemental features – such as the Museum section and inventive Challenge mode – augment the experience neatly without sullying the purity of the original releases. Fans will appreciate the fact that all six NES titles are now in the same package, while newcomers can finally see what all the fuss is about.

[I]f you're not a master at these games, they can very well take you some time to complete. Mega Man has never been known as a walk in the park when it came to difficulty and this port tries its best to stay true to the original feel. Fans new and old should most certainly check out this collection. I highly recommend it.

The games themselves are accurate representations of the original NES ones. The visuals are sharper, but nothing has changed. As I mentioned the slowdown is still there. The controls are spot on, but I still have to adjust to the jump and fire buttons being backward like they were in the NES days. There is a button configuration for those that simply cannot stand it though.

The original six Mega Man games have never looked better, and while the Xbox One controller provides some annoyance with button layout, there is plenty to tackle in this collection of glorious 8-bit gaming.

Mega Man Legacy Collection on the 3DS is a great collection of games and extras, but players who already have the Virtual Console games might be hard pressed to spend $30 on 54 challenges that have little replayability without any online functionality and leaderboards.

If these variables aren't enough to deter you, then these collections are a welcome addition to any Switch library. They are an affordable taste of one of gaming's most iconic mascots, offering hours of gameplay, extensive bonus content and challenges, and flexibility to be played either as they were, or as you would like it.

With unforgiving difficulty, it's ultimately an experience that only hardcore fans will enjoy. Add in Capcom's unwillingness to make this collection best-suited for the 3DS and you have a half-dozen games mushed together on one cart with no redeemable qualities aside from the Challenge Mode and Music Player.

All in all, the Mega Man Legacy Collection has just enough toss-ins and challenges to make it worthwhile, while not messing with the highly-successful formula that formed the foundation of this long-standing franchise.

Mega Man Legacy Collection is an invitation to explore the first six Mega Man games and it succeeds at striking a chord both with longtime Mega Man fans and with those less familiar with the series. As good as this compilation is, it could only be improved by fixing frame rate drops in certain busy areas and with more content, especially more games of the Mega Man series which could have easily been included in this title.

Mega Man Legacy Collection offers a lot of quality content for its price of admission. With six Mega Man games, a museum honoring each game with character art and music, and a new Challenge Mode featured, this is a fine collection to please the Mega Man fan in your life.

Sure, Mega Man Legacy Collection could've added more games, or had an option to expand the screen to full size (and what's with the full price tag?). That said, it's still a rich package filled with gaming history, between the six original games, the museum, the music player and the NES Remix mode. If you're even slightly devoted to the Blue Bomber, you owe it to yourself to pick this up. [OpenCritic note: Robert Workman separately reviewed the XB1 (8.5) and 3DS (8.25) versions. Their scores have been averaged.]

Some may cry foul at the lack of more recent Mega Man titles, but Mega Man Legacy Collection marks the gold standard for retro re-releases. Purists, your savior has arrived.

Mega Man Legacy Collection is a great way to play classic Mega Man games on the go. The additional content is fantastic for retro gaming fans who like to see every bit of information they can with these classics games, and the digital package is a great value at $14.99. If you have ever been interested in playing the games that got Mega Man his start, this is a solid addition to any library.
