Yes, the game was made for someone like me, a longtime fan of VLDL who loves video games. I think that it could be enjoyed by many, though, with its comedic value blended with simple game mechanics and a perfectly ridiculous story. VLDL's Azerim may not be quite the same level as World of Warcraft's Azeroth, but this is a game that I would absolutely give 9/10 stars to for how well crafted it is and the sheer amount of joy I felt while playing Nice Day For Fishing.

A fishing-themed adventure with RPG elements that brings the characters of a web-com that has become very popular worldwide to PC and consoles. The fishing mechanics are unexpectedly funny and a few small variations on the basic theme manage to keep a gameplay full of humour gags inspired by video game stereotypes, which nevertheless suffers from a certain repetitiveness in the long run.

There's a lot to love in Nice Day for Fishing, but it's marred by repetition. By the time you've cast your line a few dozen times or run about the map from end to end to fetch whatever the wizard Baradun needs, the magic fades. What works well in the short NPC Man skits doesn't entirely hold up across the course of a full-length game. Still, even though it might not be the legendary catch you're looking for, Nice Day for Fishing is far from a throwaway, especially so if you're a Viva La Dirt League fan. In short bursts, it's a very enjoyable time. It is indeed a nice day for fishing… but not a nice week.

Nice Day For Fishing is an enjoyable game that's best played in short spurts. The battles keep you on your toes with a consistent challenge throughout. There's always deeper areas to explore and plenty of resource gathering available. However, it does tend to drag out with the repetitive tasks. But aside from that minor quibble, anyone that's been looking for a Fishing RPG can't go wrong here, especially if you are a major fan of Epic NPC Man.

I can't believe that a retro-inspired RPG with such a heavy emphasis on fishing could be this fun but Nice Day for Fishing is great stuff indeed. 🎣

Nice Day for Fishing combines funny, creative combat with the fun of exploration, all wrapped in a package that doesn’t take itself too seriously but still values your time. Some parts of the game are annoying, like casting spells slowly and doing the same thing over and over, but they’re easy to forget when the game keeps surprising you with secret caves, crazy boss fights, and touching moments from its non-player characters.

Nice Day for Fishing is worth your time because it features enjoyable gameplay, dynamic settings that change over time, and humorous writing. It pays homage to its source material without relying too much on it. The only real problem is that it sometimes repeats itself, especially in the beginning. But Baelin's journey from minor figure to unintentional hero is worth every single shot.

Surprisingly deep, occasionally repetitive, and always charming. Nice Day for Fishing proves you don’t need a sword to be a hero—just a good rod and a better hat.

Nice Day For Fishing is much more than just a quirky fan project. It's a charming, funny adventure with an unusual combat system that rewards timing and skill. The clever combination of classic RPG flair, parodic worldbuilding, and challenging fishing duels makes for hours of entertaining gameplay. The fact that all of this is based on one of the most blunt jokes in the Epic NPC Man series makes it even more impressive. Anyone who loves pixel art, indie charm, and a good dose of self-irony, or is simply a fan of the series, will enjoy Nice Day For Fishing.

Nice Day for Fishing might look like a one-joke game on the surface, but it’s got a whole ocean of heart underneath. It’s a brilliant send-up of RPG conventions, sure, but also a genuinely fun and heartfelt adventure in its own right. So whether you’re here for the jokes, the deep-sea boss battles, or just looking to save the world one cast at a time, this game proves that sometimes the biggest legends don’t wield swords. They carry rods, wear funny hats, and never let a bad cast stop them from trying again.

There are probably people out there unfamiliar with Viva La Dirt League who will still be tickled by this title and have a fabulous time. I wanted an RPG with more to it than referential humor to something I’ve never seen before. As it is, this repetitive title with quirkiness and interesting combat just can’t keep my attention any longer than it takes to pull Bodger’s hammer out of the well. Again.

Nice Day for Fishing is a unique take on an RPG revolving around, you guessed it, fishing! The interesting battle mechanics and humorous dialogue go a long way in creating an enjoyable game that fans of VLDL will love. Yet, even if you aren’t a fan, this is still a fun, if repetitive, title that will undoubtably make you crack a smile. For these reasons, I’m giving Nice Day for Fishing a Thumb Culture Gold Award!

Overall I thoroughly have enjoyed my time with Nice Day for Fishing, as I have seen a few of the Skits already I understood what was going on but as some of them I weren't aware of I still found them funny and overall the game as a whole is charming and tongue-in-cheek.

Nice Day for Fishing is not a bad game. With delightful music, charming visuals, and a fishing mechanic that becomes more strategic throughout the adventure. But the repetitive fetch quest mission structure was downright exhausting. I found myself struggling to become invested in the story or excited by the next mission because I was simply worn out by the repetitive and overused fetch quest structure. Pointing out the ridiculousness of video game mission design is objectively funny. But when the experience replicates those issues, to the point where it hinders the enjoyment of the game, does the player not become the butt of the joke?

Although it doesn't reach the production values or length of *Dave the Diver*, *Nice Day for Fishing* is a delightful little gaming interlude that doesn’t need to revolutionize the genre to leave its mark. Short, nostalgic, fun, and lovingly crafted, it’s a perfect gift for longtime Viva La Dirt League fans and a great entry point for newcomers. If you're looking for a relaxing, light-hearted, surreal, and heartfelt experience — perhaps to enjoy during your beach vacation — then this is definitely your lucky day for fishing.

Nice Day for Fishing has very unique premise and foundation, though bogged down with tedious gameplay and missing gameplay features that are typically found in this genre. Add a point if you’re into Viva La Dirt League, maybe, but otherwise, I hope they make a second game and deliver a better overall product.
